As someone who has leveled both classes to 70, and played demo and bm at 70, hunters pets own locks. Hunters can basically have 3 vw/fg specced pets if they want to, a pure tank, a pvp dps, and a pve group/raid dps. Locks need to spec 41 in demo to have 2 pets close to what hunters pets are. Locks do have more utility from their pets, as felhunter and succi are nice for the abilities they bring to the table. Hunters on thier own can reproduce these pets abilities, with traps replacing seduce, and silencing shot replacing the felhunters silence. locks do have an advantage however as they have all pets available at all times, where as a hunter needs to hit town to swap his out. For pure dps or tanking, hunter pets win, for utility locks win.
