Holy crapola! That reminds me of SoD for locks. AV is going to take on a new face. Just created some hunters yesterday and got them to level 10 this morning and got my pets. Maybe I should focus on leveling those!
With all the new AoE. AV WILL NEVER BE THE SAME... Just saw a vid of the locks demo form and it is pretty killer too. Seems like everything got an AoE.Quote:

I don't know why blizzard is giving everyone an AoE for. Mob pulls will only be 3 mobs in instances it looks like, so aoe will not be that great. It will be harder to kill certain mobs for drops because everyone will be taking on 3-4 mobs at once cause of there aoe.
Have we seen all the instances yet? There may be some pockets of AoE pulls, like the non-elite birds in Sethekk etc. And these abilities are probably aimed more at certain raid encounters anyway. Hyjal comes to mind -- isn't there a new caverns of time raid coming?Quote:

I was kinda hoping that mages could once more AoE grind (that was one of the main reasons I rolled a mage, back in the day), but Blizz keeps giving other classes the aoe goodies. Blizzard (the spell) will be able to crit in Wrath but it's still channeled -- might just be a lot easier with a hunter. Looks like explosive shot is targeted, so you could easily 5-box AoE grind with hunters with the right pet setup. It'll be interesting to see what they do with the pet mechanics.
Is the Druid AoE (hurricane? can't recall the name) coming off its cooldown too? Typhoon seems fun but the knock-around component makes it probably useless for controlled AoE encounters. Same with shammy Thunderstorm.
Poor shadow priests are still left out of the AoE funtimes.
I dunno, I don't think it will get nerfed.. If you notice everyone keeps saying.. thunderstorm/demon form/explosive shot/living bomb(lol) etc will be nerfed.. but the thing is blizz has given pretty much everyone something a bit OP and some AoE at that too :)
rogues and warriors can now disarm your shield!!! and weapon for that matter, let alone reduce your armour to 0 :P so rogues will still be melee vs melee kings.. mages although they got crappy 51-point talents have a rly nice new spell against melee.
Instant physical damage shield that when it's broken (ie enough damage absorbed) freezes everything within 8 yrds, combine that with frost nova and pet nova, and you wonder how anything will get to them..but then again, melee looks to be hitting a lot harder come WotLK.
also frost looks like the new raid dps spec, so you have the control and dps all in one :) (i'm talking 80% sustained crit chance in 25mans - with 3 or more frost mages)
Druid healing is going through the roof :S so is dps :)
everyone is getting buffed like crazy :) If they do start nerfing things, then they will be dong it to all of them
I don't see why everyone is worried about these things tho :) It's going to make the game, and multiboxing all the more fun :)

I like seeing all the classes having a certain amount of adaptability as in slows stuns AOE etc. I REALLY REALLY like any AOE that isn't a click aoe soooo this looks awesome even if it is nerfed 4x exploding shot + a paly tank will be some sick aoe farming or instance farming=)

It depends on a few things. Level, gear, talents, pet talents, etc. A level 75-80 who can clear SM in one pull probably won't lead to a nerf, to be honest. :p

Mind Seer was doing insane damage, about 1600 to each target and was nerfed.
As for the video, they forgot to cap the AoE damage on the spell. Arcane Explosion for example can only do a max of 5000 damage now total, they will do the same thing with this ability making that shot in Cathedral do about 100 damage each due to how many targets were in there.
I thought AoE capping worked on the premis of a max/min coefficient.. initially a single target takes full damage, and the more you add the lower it goes, but it would never go below the base damage in the description+ a small percentile from talents/gear. so for this one it should be a min of 500 per mob.. so once you reach this limit, the damage rises linearly with every mob added.
unless they are completely changing the AoE system :S

Time to dust off that so-loathed team that I abandoned all that time ago!
So what is the current maximum damage of max rank Arcane Explosion for mages? I tend to pull 12-16 mobs at a time atleast in SM Cath and I do around 450normal damage to 800crit damage. So even if I hit with normal damage on each mob this is equivalent to 5400dmg with max rank of Arcane Explosion.
I am going to make sure this is accurate as I am not at my gaming boxes at the moment but will definitely make sure later after work.
The Blizzard example seems to be about spot on as I do about 229-230 per tick on mobs in SM Cath.

If I am reading this correctly then basically with rank 8, I shouldn't be able to do more than 6730 damage.
I just tested this in SM Cath and I tagged 16 mobs for 9416 damage (5 crits out of the 16). The low regular hit was 495, the high regular hit was 525. The crits were from 747 to 782.
So is anyone sure about what the caps are for AE spells? If I need to I can attach a screenshot later, still boosting at the moment, just wanted to stop while I remembered about this thread.
