Is multi-box ganking on a PVP server evil?

Anyone else have this revelation?

Or is there strong disagreement with my conclusion?


I was actually starting my dream team - Draenei Priest and 4 Gnome Locks - All fem - and made them all on Emerald Dream (RP-PVP).

Then I realized two things -

1 - Alliance is WAY better for the lower levels but loses its edge later. (Who wants to group with humans and NEs)

and

2 - The main thing I imagined when creating them was the 5 dots, 4 dots, a 4 fear rotation, 4 pets going crazy on my opponents. I thought fo them going into a nerdy RPer tirade with their guild - emotes and ALL! Upon further consideration, I now see that as an extremely cruel to do. That woudl be ruining someone else's gaming experience.

I remember being level 30ish and being pwned by a level 70 Warrior with an Arcanite Reaper and saying, "that sucked, but at some point, I may stand a chance." Stunlocked by a well-geared Rogue -- Same thing.


BUT -

5 Toons all dotting you up and focus-firing is too much.

Only multi-boxers - or a 5 man team would stand a chance.

I am now playing Horde on the same PVE server my 70s inhabit. And I feel bad enough when I unleash the hecatomb on an area to get max XP and collect everythign for all 5 of my toons.


Who made the other choice -- PVP all the way?

I dual box and have had many high level toons "Ruin my gaming experience"

Not only 1 higher level toon, but 6 level 70s ran in and killed my two level 16 druids. That is not fair at all!! (unless i get 6 level 70 friends to attack them in return.. hmm... that gives me an idea. Be right back...)

Anyways..

PvP server = the joy of messing up someone else gaming experience, knowing that any given time while playing, you can have your gaming experience messed up as well.

Saying playing 5 characters on a pvp server isn't fair is not using true logic. If playing 5 characters at once gave you an advantage over a group of just 5 people, then you would see 5 boxers pwning the arena, which you don't. People even asked about running a full multi boxed arena team. People posted afterwards, prepare to get a low rating. Yes, 5 boxing vs 1 player or even 7 players that sucks might seem "unfair" but thats life, and there is nothing to stop that person from making their own 5 box setup (there are even forums about it.. aka This one) To say it is unfair.. lol it's just funny, and brought a smile to my face.. Definitely a team of 5 guys killing the 5-boxer would be pretty easy, once they figured it out.

Fear-bombs to keep your guys off track and what have you.

You are pretty much limited to focusing on one player at a time, so they could CC a few of your guys and you would be toast.


There is "fairness," and I guess I could wield the power without abusing it.

Basically, wait until some dumbass doesn't notice there are actually 4 locks stacked on top of one another and attacks me .. LOL

But, it jsut doesn't fit my palystyle. I remember running into BRM and MCing peeps into the lava on my priest - was it nice.. no, but it was fun.

I guess I am just past that. The game is unbalanced enough IMO.

I'd think it would be fun just rolling through a contested zone and killing everyone you find (until you hit the odd 70). And then keep doing it until they call in reinforcements ... at which point you move to another zone.

well after STV experience and stuff I have found only one answer on it - care? no.

I will generally not bother people if I'm busy doing other things. And they tend to do likewise. On the other hand, this is kill or be killed on PVP servers. So, no, it is nobody's fault but theirs if you steamroll 'em and they go emo about it.

I'll be honest i'm evil as hell.

Example. I was doing the quest in Winterspring in the Yeti cave. There was some alliance in there. I killed them all, none of them were stealth classes. They had no means of escaping me while I was questing in there. They tried thats for sure. As you know with 5 boxing it takes hours to complete a quest.

I guess a few joined up and got there mains down there. End result. There mains had to sprit rez :lol:

Sadly not that one. I got one shortly after of killing 2 ?? (geared 70s) that were ganking.

Right now my "main" machine on a good day gets 20fps when recording. That clip recorded at 3fps and I had to turn it off as I couldn't do anything.

Thankfully my new 3.0g Core 2 parts should be here end of this week. Can't wait.

My backup machine i'm using right now is a 3.2G HT with a really old 5700U video card that the fan is going bad on, which can over heat and cause the machine to reboot yay.

I leveled up my 4 wizards and others on Sullon Zek in EQ. I don't know if any of you have heard the history of SZ but because there was no level restrictions it was 100 percent hardcore ganking all the time.

I've died so many times in pvp to oppoenents I couldn't even touch that kililng someone 24 - 1 is nothing to me.

That being said I kinda spend most my time leveling and getting exp, I havn't went out looking for pvp in years. Latly I take my 6 best and challenge people (3 wiz, 1 chanter (to strip buffs), 1 ranger (fight at range) and 1 cleric) to battle (after playing 24 only playing 6 is so easy), some take me on, most don't. I don't attack people who don't attack me first.

Not to say I don't plan to, at some point I will try and take on guilds instead of individuals or shut down a zone or two but thats going to be a loooong time from now.

Everyone here in WoW is doing a lot better then I am because the time it takes to level up in EQ is so much longer.

I don't really see myself 5-boxing on a RP or RP-PvP server, even though I have a 70 dorf priest and 63ish paly on an RP-PvP server. Or even my horde PvP server.

The only really evil thing I can see would be to corpse camp somebody for no reason. If you're in an area XPing/Questing or you're playing hero of Crossroads or Ashenvale, etc and they keep coming back for more then that's different. :wink:

Still waiting on wireless mice and X-Keys, so hopefully in no more than a week I'll be up and running.

I’m on a RP-PVP server and I’ve not once seen actually Roleplay take place! I’ve been on a few normal PVP servers, my friend and I tired of the constant whining decided lets make a change and try a RP-PVP server.

Figured at least RP would attract a different crowd with hopefully more mature people. Yeah I’m not in to RP never will be or try it, it’s just not my thing. Best part about it is I never had to. It doesn’t exist plan in simple.

Once in a while you get someone that casts there pet out with some long winded message “Heed my call zomgmewmewcatpetname” but I’ve seen that on normal servers.

I tell ya I’ve been on a lot of servers but I’m really happy with mine. Once in a while you have your whiners but it doesn’t even scale with the others I’ve been on. I did start on our mutibox server Mag. I just couldn’t take it and left and went back to my server. Been extremely happy ever since.

Most of the people I’ve ever spoken to are always 18+ in age. I like that, being able to have a conversation at the same scale, also the amount of patience people have is a lot greater.

rp-pvp server doesnt provide good enough amount of drama :)

Sometimes I ganked lowbies when I saw them with my priest duo, but I tried my best to only gank orange to red con enemy players. RP server, and on the realm forum I planned to roleplay something about "buffing the alliance" in defense.

"Oh, I wasn't actually giving him health, I was taking it away? Oooh...", in an Eddie Izzard voice.

when people choose to play on a PvP server (i use the term "PvP server" loosely in WoW), you have to accept that there will be times when youll be ganked, griefed, etc. compared to true PvP games WoW is relatively grief-proof.

during the shadowbane beta a player in my first guild planted row upon row upon row of houses along the border of the first newbie town and the zone where all the mobs are. he spent millions and hours of his time planting hundreds of little wooden shacks. the way shadowbane worked, you load objects, buildings, etc, only when they come into view. he basically sat there for 2 days camping the rows of houses, that he had already loaded.. waiting for newbies to come out and lag up loading all the junk so he could kill them and loot their cash. eventually a GM had to come and delete the houses because there was no way anyone could get through to level up without dying.

so.. from my perspective.. WoW is pretty tame =)

This is a question I've only recently had to ask, since I've started a 5 man Priest team on a PvP server just for kicks.

The approach I'm taking is to pretty much leave people alone unless they start something, or if they're obviously ganking lowbies, and to use a KoS mod to track those who no longer deserve the benefit of my doubt!

It's early days, but it seems to be working quite well so far, and since I've always had this damn conscience thing about killing people in one-sided fights, it helps me sleep at night (figuratively speaking ;) ).

I ganked a paladin one day with my 5 shaman group while I was out questing and then the guys 70 warlock showed up and 1 shotted my group. I brought my lock out and camped him for a bit :) PvP is never fair!

After having all 5 of my 21s rolled up by a ?? hunter the other night, I will have zero compunction about ganking the snot out of alliance. And a bunch of other alliance are always trying to make me accidentally flag. Ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chances. :P

So, I was in the barrens questing at lvl 23 & decided to run to the great lift to get the flight path for 1k needles.

I ran across two "??" alliance dueling at the Summoning stone to RFD.
4x Fireballs, & a few AOE's later, no more allies. Armory for thier names indicated Lvl 42 & 44.

Evil yes,,, Feel Guilty No.

This is what I bought WOW for.

I don't think its "evil" per se.

I get ganked alot, but I choose not to gank myself. Especially to the point of corpse camping. I know its part of the game, if you dont like to reroll PVE bla bla, I just choose not to do it myself. I dont whine and moan when I'm getting camped, but personally I would never do it to somebody else without a ridiculously good reason.

With this sort of attitude its surprising how many people don't fight me either! My original toon was a 70 gnome warlock on a PVE server. I still play him, but I wanted to experience PVP so I rerolled. I still like a good fight from time to time, but I prefer not to initiate them. You never know, its an old server I play on, which character is just a 40 'alt' with his 70 gnome rogue parked in the zone. Its happened to me on occasion, so now I just ignore world PVP and get on with my leveling. I'm pretty good at PVP, I win almost every encounter in the field. But I try not to start them myself, and mostly we just ignore eachother and continue our questing.

I think my attitude my change at 70 though, but for now I just want to get there. You'll still never find me corpse camping anybody, or hunting lowbies in tarren mill etc...but I might start a LOT of wars against 70s in the elemental plateau and places like that (70 farming zones). Ganking lowbies is just bad sport imo, pick a fair fight, thats why I rolled PVP. I know unfair fights are part of it, but you dont have to go down to that level for the sole reason that you "can".
