Questing vs grinding for dualboxing?

I was wondering what would be the fastest way.

1/ Questing
Awesome xp, good quest rewards. Downside: a lot of travelling, picking up questloot with both characters, switching screens to turn in quests. Yesterday i forgot to loot an elite boss with my slave char ... i didn't bother to do the quest again.

2/ Grinding
Good xp if you grind mobs 1-3 levels higher. Nice drops from time to time. With my current setup hardly ever downtime. Downside: no quest rewards. Boring after a while.

Think i'll hop on the grindboat for a while so i can compare.

Your thoughts?

I have recently leveled my 3rd 5-box team to level 70. I usually both do quests and grind.

- I do all kill x mobs quests, kill and loot head, kill x until y drops etc. Theese quests can be done on all at the same time.
- I skip allmost all loot x items type of quests. Exeption here is if its a start on a very good questchain, or if I need it for instance-quest followup
- When I have done all multibox friendly quests avalible for my level (including any prequests for instances) I go instances. Usually trying to finnish up the instance quests since theese give insane amounts of xp in comparison to normal quests. I normally grind instances until I'm 2-3 levels higher then when I started grinding. Then I find new quest-areas and repeat.

For short:
Questing is better xp than instances IF you have plenty of good quests. If you are running short on quests, or have to do quests that include a lot of running, bad droprate,loot x items etc, then you will be better of grinding instances.

Instances ... the thing is here is i'm only in control of 2 toons so i can't "solo" instances.
If i need to group up, then they will expect my priest to heal. healing a group while controlling my lock to do damage is a bit too much for me.
Especially when mobs are starting to run around and my lock no longer faces them, positioning can become a nasty issue.
So i'm gonna stick to questing, leaving out the loot x of item quests.

If you're only playing 2 characters, might as well do all the quests. Anti collection questers are those that generally do 4 or 5 box.
Two to three boxing quests isn't that much of a pain, even the long collection ones.

Personally I've only done instances on my 5x shamans one time each for quests and never gone back, ZF exception, tried to farm it a few times and got bored. Personally, the xp from questing and being able to raise gathering tradeskills is a large bonus for me. I have skinning mining and herbalism on my toons atm.

As always though, it comes down to preference. Do what you want, when you want, how you want. ^_^

I'm skipping most collection quests now, except a few that I know touch of decent or instance-related quest chains. Rest is instancing.

Not sure though if I'll continue that policy in Outlands, cause 5 x Epic Flyers is a tonne of gold I need to save up, and quests in Outlands are too rich to skip.

For me it varies greatly. Sometimes questing gives better xp, sometimes it is instances that are better. I haven't done grinding yet, because I find it too boring and it's difficult to find areas with a fast enough respawn rate (at least it is for 4 characters acting as an NPC lawnmower on speed).
Instances gave me best XP when the NPCs are green, because then I can get 3 to 5 elites and area effect them to pieces(*). This gives me 1 mana break after 4 or 5 kills instead of 1 break every 2 kills if I kill them with lightning bolt only.
Quests often give me better XP, but it completely depends on the amount of running and the type of quests. I found out that the whole Eastern Kingdoms undead quests from the starting point up to Hammerfall are very good for multiboxing. Also Stranglethorn vale is very fun, because of the quests and the ganking (you basically pwn the sh*t out of the other faction as long as there are no 70 gankers). The Shimmering Flats are quite slow for levelling 4 or multiboxing characters, I skipped most of the quests there and went straight to Stranglethorn Vale.

(*) This weekend I went with an additional (druid) to Scarlet Library and we could just pull all elites in those chained rooms towards the boss (6-8 elites at once). We were about level 35 then. We were quite amazed that we survived, didn't expect that (because all these elites hitting on leather is ... heavy).

Actually it's better to instance to 70 in the outlands and not do one quest until 70...reason being, the total gold from doing all quests at max level is around 26k (not sure if that's per char or total for 5 though), and you will max your faction with all places at honoured (except aldor/scryer) before you start getting the faction from the quests as well. I'll be doing it that way next time, I know that.

Grinding + tonns fo mobs + vent + guidl chat + movie/radio/music + drinks + erection = WIN!!!

With only 2 characters you should definitely be questing, including the not-so-popular gathering quests.

Questing beats grinding for sure, especially since they raised the xp from all that stuff.

Even with my 5x team im following joana's guide... fastest i ever leveled was following it on my druid...

Do both instance and questing. It'll break it up a bit. Skip collection if you're doing fine with the XP.
