So, the time is at hand. We finally have ten classes, all raids are being tuned to 10 or 25 man size, and I'm finally out of school and about to go get a real income. Looks like its time to expand my 5 man group to 10 man. Thus far, I'm imagining my set up is going to look like this:
Melee group:
Warrior
Rogue
Death Knight
Resto Shaman
Hunter
Caster Group:
Holy Priest
Mage
Resto Druid
Prot Pally
Lock
Leaves me with 3.5 healer, 2+ potential tanks depending on respective specs, and 4-5 DPS.
That sounds like so much pain and suffering. And massive X-Keys setups.
Setting up all of those macros... omg... kill me now /cut
My very first set of toons I made, I spent a good week sitting around writing and fixing macros trying to figure out the best way to get them to do things fluidly like normal players. I cannot imagine doing it for every class haha. The brain pain that would ensue!
If you ever do manage to get that team off the ground, I want some videos! :D

I've already been running groups with 5 different classes, both caster and melee with all 9 current classes, so I have most of the conceptual work for my macros down. What is really getting me is having to respec my currently leveled, speced, and geared Balance Druid and Elemental Shaman, and I may respec the Holy Priest in to a Shadow/Holy Hybrid to get some HP/MP regen, +5% magic damage (which I'm losing from respecing the boomkin), though whether he'll be in Shadow form or not is kinda up in the air. Does Shadow form operate on the main cast bar like stances and forms for warriors/druids in that it switches your main spell line (assuming you use the base ui)?

However I will say that they are right in that you will have quite a task on your hands making all the different abilities and spells and cd's and such mesh well together. TBH though the biggest obstacle I see isn't the # of different classes you'd be using or the mix of melee/range, but rather the likely hood that you'll need to be able to control more than one tank at a time and perhaps having to move them to different locations and such. But hey if you are eager to give it a go more power to ya.
90% of the time, I'm spamming "2", and thus far I've cleared all 5 man content with that method. Its mostly just clever /castsequence and /castrandoms and /targets. I'm imagining the hard part will be boss specific macros and positioning/movement. I do need to experiment some more with warrior "button-mash" tanking, but I think once I get the formula down, I don't see it being too much of an issue. Its hard to say without knowing specifically how all the raid encounters will work, and/or how raid design will work. If the ten man stuff is designed to be beatable with a "functional" 10 man group (2 tanks, 3 healers, 5 DPS) I think I'll be ok. If they pull some funny stuff like 4 tanks, 3 healer, 3 DPS necesary to beat an encounter, or 2 of x class, I may be in trouble.Quote:

I may have to learn to function with 2 or even 3 mains, for ranged and melee dps and off-tanking and all that, but honestly, figuring this stuff out is 90% of the fun. Worst case scenario, if I get this set up, is that I end up running end game dailies with 2 groups at once.
Having 10 boxed before.... with 3 classes. I have to say I admire your tenacity. Because you are going to need it. Is this possible? Sure. Will it be fun for you? Only you will know. Will it be effective? Probably not. But does it matter? Probably not. Make sure you upload pics.
I think the simple way to find out if you will accomplish this is to ask one question:
Do you love macros more then girls?
If answer = yes
then you will go far!
if answer = no
forget you ever mentionded this idea!
Is there a global limit on macros in WoW?
I'm guessing you'll find out. ;)

As far as how many macros I will use, there is a limit on the personal and all-characters level, and on some characters (notably healers) I've already hit the cap on personal macros, so I may find myself having to cut-n-paste macro files between dungeons. Kinda depends on how specific some fights will be.

I'm married too, and am looking into multiboxing for just that reason. I hate being in a group, and having to either bug out on them (and potentially lose friends/teammates online) for my wife, and vice versa. If I am all 5 people in an instance, I can just logout and finish later.Quote:

10 boxing, wow, 10 classes? noble idea. I hope you can get it worked out. I think you'd have enough difficulty with 10 characters with different specs. I'd say don't necessarily go for 10 classes just to say you did it, but make a 10 man team with some same classes, but different spec (like tree druid, moonkin, bear, and cat druids) for instance. I'd be going for the best mix of buffs/auras and other team enhancing stuff. Moonkins makes everyone else crit more, trees make other heals heal more etc. That would be just as difficult, if not moreso, but I think you'd have better success at it.
I currently run my group with maximized synergy in mind (Prot Pally, Holy Priest, Fire Mage, Balance Druid, Elemental Shaman +4% spell hit, +8% spell Crit, +100~ spell damage, Mana Spring, etc). Expanding to 10, I'm going to switch most of my focus to melee synergy, with a Shaman to drop Windfury, Warrior shout, whatever a Death Knight will bring, and Hunter's Mark +3% damage buff (may grab a wolf pet for howl too), and a mooching rogue, I'd say the team enhancing buffs are mostly in order. I'll need to check out whether it will be better to have the lock in the caster group spam Incinerate for the +15% damage bonus the Fire Mage puts up with Scorch, or if she'll be better off trying to take advantage of the Shadow/Holy hybrid priest's shadow damage debuffs. Guess its time to read up more on that.Quote:
