LInked accounts - question

There's been a few posts about banning and linked accounts.

I'm not doing anything wrong, but I am now worried that if I get reported for boxing I, or my son might get banned. This is how we are working:

I play four shammies, multiboxing. He plays a pally.

My four accounts are under my name. His account is under his name.

But, because I'm a softie, I pay for both mine and his accounts with the same credit card. We have the same address as he lives at home. And as we are in the same house, we have the same IP address.

Now when we play, it would be obvious that his movements weren't synchronised with my four shammies, so hopefully a GM could see we were two different people. But could they look at the links between the accounts and assume that I am playing someone elses' account and automatically ban them all?

I don't want to stop grouping with him, especially when we are both playing legally. Do you think we would be ok?

Hi,im currently in a sitution close to your but i pay for my girl friends account and i own my own 5 man team and we have ran around alot nothin done to us.Don't see why they'd complain but if your really concearned i'd say use pre-paid cards but i'm sure your fine either way

you shouldn't havea problem as long as you are the one playing your registered characters and he is the one playing his.

my wife and i play our own accounts and i've been reported before and havnet had any problems.

I am kinda in the same boat, I bought my little brother an account set it up for him under his name. Our last names are exactly the same. He hasn't played the account since i bought it for him back in 2005. i've never changed the address or email the only difference on the accounts is the first name, address and email. Am i screwed or can I change the first name?

you are account sharing, i had to buy two more accounts and level 2 more toons because of that exact reason, 2 were in my brother's name. I would get rid of his accont and get a 2nd one of your own.

FACTS

• You can pay for whoever's account you want. You cannot access that person's username/password, including the account administration page, unless the account is in YOUR name.
• You can share YOUR acccount (in your name) with ONE legal minor dependant.
• You can access any account that is YOURS (that is, has your name on it)
• You cannot access any account that is NOT yours (that is, does NOT have your name on it)
• You can log in from wherever you choose (i.e. the same household/IP address for families, lan parties, etc)
  
• You may NEVER change the legal name on the account unless you are the original named owner and show legal proof of name change.
• You may NEVER access another person's account.
• You may NEVER transfer characters between accounts, regardless of the fact that your payment info, last name, address, etc MIGHT be the same. If you get caught, there will be consequences. There will not be discussions on how to avoid being caught on this forum as per the community guidelines.

As long as you fit within these guidelines and follow the rules in the ToU and Eula, you should not worry about getting banned. Of course, Blizzard reps are human and are not infallible, so when a mistake happens make sure to read the stickies in the customer service forum as to how to dispute an account action if you believe a mistake was made.

Didn't really understand how serious account sharing was. Always viewed it as an empty threat by Blizzard but I never boxxed more than 2 or 3 until a couple months ago when I started my 5 shaman team. With all the positive AND negative attention you get from boxing and all the threads I saw of people being banned for account sharing it finally donned on me to wake up and get the account situation fixed. Unfortunately I found out late and now I'm re-rolling the shamans with new accounts after they hit 52 because I was stupid enough to roll them on retired accounts :(

Better to learn sooner than later ^_^

1) Out of curiosity, how would you cancel someone's subscription if it is under your credit card if this is true?
2) You can transfer characters between your accounts. You can't transfer your characters to someone else's account or vice versa.
3) Delete posts and warn/ban users, don't lock the thread. Locking a thread with good discussion sans a couple bad apples is dumb. If thats what they tell you to do in the secret moderator forum then tell them to l2mod. I don't actually know of the secret moderator forum please don't kill me. *ninja* see? more people like Crayonbox will see the thread and get good information if it's left open in the event of offtopicgeddon.

There are plenty of open threads with such topics already if you use the search forums, I just had started a new thread to ask a specific question that wasn't addressed in any of those threads, or none that I could see.

If they lock threads, the threads can still be viewed so I don't think it's so bad that mods simply lock threads. Also I think it may also be because they want to stay on the good side of Blizzard in case they do end up coming up to these boards. Would hate to have this website and all affiliated sites and programs get blacklisted because people decided to start controversial discussions on these forums that break ToS and EULA.

But I can see what you're trying to say as well, however these are their forums. Let the mods do their job IMO ^_^

There's another situation that I'm pretty sure can be accomplished, when your child is no longer a minor I believe you can have the account transferred into their name with the proper documentation. If my stepson is still playing wow in a couple of years I'll be attempting this and have the documentation to back everything up.

That's between you and how much you trust the actual account owner. You can always talk directly to your CC company if worse comes to worse. The safest way is just to buy your friend a gametime card.

Erk, this is correct. I didn't word that sentence correctly. It should say something along the lines of "You cannot transfer characters between accounts that are not both yours"... Thanks for helping me clarify.

Correct, but my warning applied to locking a thread that did not have good discussion. As long as the discussion is inline with the forum rules, there is no need to lock it. Let's all keep it that way.

This is also correct, though it's along the same lines as a legal name change. If your minor child comes of legal age, then it is acceptable to transfer his character onto his own legal account since he is now able to legally sign a contract with Blizzard on his own.
