BAN update (overturned)

So on April 22nd and 23rd, I was boosting 4 of my chars for a new boxing team in Scarlet Monastery (about 5 hours sessions each day). The next day, I got a permanent ban (due to supposed "cheats") on the account of the char I was driving from (my best geared mage).

I appealed it, after 9 days they answer the ticket, and turns out IT WAS DUE TO PLAYER REPORTS (facepalm). The GM who revised the reports somehow decided that I was cheating and perma-banned me (LUL). After I appealed it, they changed the ban to a 6 month suspension and started a "second review" of the case to check if it was an error.

And the next day (today, 11 days after the ban), voilà!, everything was overturned, no ban no suspension and account 100% functional.

So basically: If enough retards report you while you are boosting your new teams (or god knows what other situations), you will get banned if a dumb GM check the reports. Looks like the GM considered that me boosting other 4 of my chars in SM was "cheating/explotation of game mechanics" LOL.

I hope Blizzard has some sort of quality control for this stuff coz this shit is serious business, you can basically get a perma-ban FOR NOTHING if you have bad luck with the random GM that check the reports, it's insane.

From this day on I'm gonna laugh at the retards who say the typical "you can't be banned for multiboxing"... O RLY?

I'm going back to SM to boost myself, I hope a don't get banned again, LOL!

Assuming this is all true, I think this is something that needs addressed..just not sure how we would go about it. If i ever got banned for doing nothing wrong like you have.. i would be pretty upset about it, you would hope GMs know what is a bot/cheater and what is a multiboxer. They need to educate their GMs it seems like.This should never happen period.. we are paying customers, even when you get it overturned like in this case, and others, it simply should not happen..ESPECIALLY when a GM investigates its and decides you were cheating, when you were not..WHAT? It takes days to get these overturned..you are being punished for their ignorance.

Blizzard is a different company now. As much as absolutely possible is automated when before you had real people. They seem to have changed the length of the bans as well. Permanent used to be reserved for gold sellers and exploiting the economy. Bans for botting were short.

I feel its now like this:
Player reports -> computer algorithm -> ban -> appeal -> real person

For your ban, I don't see how it was your scarlet monastery boosting. Other players cant see you in there, seems unlikely to be mass reports from it.

Maybe a streamer saw you and had his fans mass report you.

That's an interesting theory, if it was automated would explain how I was banned for nothing (maybe the algorithm is triggered once you reach a certain number of reports?), although I think it's really weird that the system generates a perma-ban without human supervision.

They can see you with /who (they do it all the time for looking for mages to boost them), or when you get out of the instance to go to different parts of it (Graveyard, Cathedral, Armory, Library) or to reset.

This is a generic email, it does not mean it was the cause of your ban.
It just means they choose that template when the initial uphold action was applied.

You don't get directly banned from player reports. You'd get a suspension from a GM after they checked you because of those reports.

Its what you're doing while multiboxing not the multiboxing. And they did only ban the one account, not all.

But glad you got it worked out, sad that it took them so long.

There was a post on reddit saying that 5 accounts on the same IP in a dungeon get automatically flagged for investigation. I am not sure how true this is but i would imagine they would need to whitelist multi-boxers if that was the case overwise they would need to be constantly looking into us lol.

You would get suspended if it was a GM, not banned.

You say you were boosting, you probably hit bot levels of instances generated.

Using nothing but ISBoxer. Leveled already like 5 parties and everything was fine.

If you're not using 1 blizzard account, explain what your other accounts are and what you were doing.

Do not use multiboxing as your only excuse, that's not what you were banned for.
Do not lie, they know more about your accounts than you probably do.

If you were up to no good, cut your loses and move on. Stop w/e you were doing. Multiboxing has enough issues than to be dragged into the mud with RMTers etc.

and did they refund days of game time after that appeal?
that is actually insane waiting 9 days every time you got reported by idiots without any guarantee you will get unbanned, since it depends on reviewing GM I believe..
my friend got banned with same reason on level 1 characters rofl, while he was configuring isboxer for start, so someone reported him in starter location or something? that is omegalul

Your account got straight banned, that's not reports so you can stop playing anyone but yourself.

I sort of don't want to ask cause I think I know the answer, but that were you doing ingame? What do you multibox? Where do you go and do it?

I tired of playing mages/warlocks, started fresh melee cleave party, made it to Scarlet Monastery and was just leveling there.
There were party of like 3-4 60's horde which was ganging me everytime I leave dungeon for reset, sort of multibox haters idk, mb they reported me.

What will be your commentary about my friend banned on lvl 1 characters while setting up ISboxer for 2 hours in starting location? Is there some 'shady shit' you can do there?
I was thinking like you, before me and my friends got their bans, that all that people with bans doing some shady shit and I'm not.

There are red flags that could make false flags more likely.

Do you use a VPN?
Brand new accounts?
Different b.nets?
10+ hour sessions?

GMs take days to respond to tickets, I find it hard to believe they respond to player reports immediately, what you were doing directly prior to the ban was probably not what they banned for.

Sorry you were banned, I really am, and I am glad it was overturned.

Some of this it likely just server and GM specific. There's a number of streamers (StaySafe) who have been calling on multiboxing to be banned. I'd imagine that caused a bunch of people to be reported - and that shouldn't be an issue as there's nothing against TOS with multiboxing. But I'd also assume that there's some >0% of the time (any time there's human/GM intervention required) that a GM is going to get it wrong. So for all the MBers on PvP servers and anywhere MBers are making enemies; I'm sure the number of reports are going up. Even if the false positive rate of GM bans is staying the same it will mean that the number of false positive bans will go up.

The other issue at the moment is that a lot of servers are having a huge problem with bots. I don't want to imply that many multiboxers are botting, but I think there are a huge number of botters who are multiboxing. Maybe the botters aren't multiboxing in the traditional sense like we are, but when they have multiple bot programs all running the exact same routes it can be really hard to actually tell if they're following each other or just have the same programming. For the average player, I'd expect they don't even realize there's a difference and they report them all the same way. If I were a GM, and the last dozen tickets I worked were all bots, I'd really have to be on my A-game to make sure I didn't accidentally get a legit multiboxer mixed up in there - especially because the bots are being programed to look & behave as legit as possible.

• GMs are not specific to a server.
• Influencers have no influence on GMs/Blizzard - more reports just means more reports not more account actions.
• I don't want to keep repeating myself about reports from other players but GMs don't ban, they suspend.
• False positives happen. False GM positives are rare but happen. If you get a false GM positive, you're already way into the grey area so stop it.

If you're using bots, it doesn't matter if you're multiboxing or not, it will eventually get caught. For those using autofire macros/scripts/software, that falls under the "botting" umbrella as well.

I've been multiboxing for 10 years. I've had a GM contact me once ingame. I won't hold my breath on it happening to me.

How many instances did you run, were you boosting with a high level, what were you doing with the items and gold that you received, is wow being launched through any other program than isboxer, what do you do on your retail, since the launch of classic have you ever tried any bots or scripts, even just once?

As for my commentary on your friend, I have no idea what else is he running on his computer. What connection he's using. What other players is connected to him so I'll cover it with a vague shady shit again.

Stop thinking a specific "just before I got banned" incident as the cause of it. 99.9% of the time it wasn't.

And just so we're clear, the reason I am pushing this so hard is because I don't want misinformation being spread.

This thread was already pointed out to me as "fact" today.

The discussion is pointless, I'm pretty sure I didn't violate a single rule and likely will be unbanned by appeal, but waiting 9 days or so makes me sad, I was so hyped on that push on melee-party, planned like my every single step before start, wanted to break my previous record about leveling and gearing speed and now just lost my hype on that ban.
I still think it was by the reports, becuase I can't see why only 3 windows got banned and 2 still alive, idk which rules could it violate, I didn't even trade gold from my main (my mains still alive btw, if you think I was banned for RMT or any shady shit).
Not sure why did even i start this discussion, you can't help me anyway, just because I was sad about this happened I guess.

As others have noted, these threads don't tend to serve much purpose because there is no one on this forum who can help in a situation like this, and everything should be handled between the account holder and Blizzard. There are no tips or tricks that we can provide for not getting banned, as this is a forum centered around multiboxing online games where the playstyle itself is already, in some form, allowed, and so when people say they were banned for only multiboxing, it just simply isn't true.

Could you have been doing something wrong and lying about it? Yes.
Could you have been playing normally and been caught up in a false flag? Yes.

Regardless, no one here is going to be able to tell anyone else why something happened to their account, because the only two entities with the entire story are the account holder and Blizzard, and allowing these threads to stay open results in nothing other than speculation and accusations—most of which tend to be quite unhelpful.

I am locking this thread, and we will be locking/removing all future threads about being banned that tend to show up from time to time. Finally, when we make the move to the new forum, there will be a specific rule against creating threads such as these, so that everyone is on the same page.
