I asked this question in another thread, but it was kinda off topic and got lost... but:
Does anyone have experience with AOE (arcane explosion + holy nova) in instances with 4 mages/1 priest? I know that there was a guy on here that did a speed run of Bot with 4-5 Holy priests spamming Holy Nova... I was wondering if anyone else had experience. It would be a generally good idea to burn down the hardest hitting mob by focus firing it before they got to you, but after that, AOE!
There was this dude that had 4 frostmages and a priest that aoed from lvl 60-70 and got nerly 400'000 exp a hr. So jea you can try and see what happens.
That guy would be me:) What I did was using 1 prot pally and 4 disc/holy dps speced priests. This works fairly well if your tank is good geared. I have no expirience with mages, but I am afraid that you will die a lot without a tank. If one of my priests caught agro in botanica they didnt live very long even though they got spamhealed by holy nova. If you are aiming for aoeing instances, I will highly reccomend bringing a protection paladin for tanking purposes.Quote:

Ahh, that makes more sense. Without a healer though, it'd be tough to do still (4 mages + tank). With all those people doing the Map Ping targetting for Blizzard, I wonder what 4 AOE Frost-specced Mages could do to elites.Quote:

It might be possible to use a mage as a main and kite the mobs while all your slaves blizzard the area that your main is(with pings), however I think the map-pings does not work very well indoors :(
I did this from 24 to 60 on 4x mages & A priest. This worked amazingly well through LBRS , but outlands instances hit too hard above ramps to do seriously in my opinion.
Heroics no.
Normal leveling - as long as you have SOME kind of AoE heal (as in a priest) then it is viable. 4 Mages + 1 Priest is solid although if the priest dies, you walk back.
Hellfire + PoH = WIN. 8 minute soulstones. Just have to be careful to not kill yourself and to setup the macro to not cast when channeling so you don't waste mana.

Tankadin, Holydin and 3 mages. I AoE heroics all the time. Not all the pulls of course but it is possible on many. The only time really when AoE does not work is when the mob cast some kind of disable spell like fear or stun. Botanica is one of the most AoE friendly instances. The trick to heroic AoE is to understand that (unlike regular) no-one except the tank can be hit. Tankadin holds agro (with holy shield and consecrate), holydin spams heals on him and the mages alternate Flamestrike and Blizzard from some distance. It is not as fast AoE as Arcane Explosion spam but it is 100x safer.

Honesty, I dont really care about heroics for this group. I just wondered if it was viable for leveling.
think a lot will depend on the instance, any type of stun / silence will be a prob.
though Id stick to low yellow / green elite instances think youl find it a lot quicker XP (can pull more, less dmg etc)
For leveling absolutely without a doubt 100% fast, Easy. You can AOE up to 6-12 Yellow/Orange Conned Elites in most instances once you get the pulls down. (2 packs/normal pulls & a Patrol without too much trouble)
Once you hit outlands it gets down to 1 group or so per pull. Beyond ramps it's not quite so good.
I leveled my mages/priest before the quest/leveling changes in 2.3, & did my shammies after. In my opinion the mages seemed faster & more enjoyable becasue of AOE goodness.
