I'm playing this expansion very casually. I just hit 120 a few days ago on my Pals. I tried a few island expeditions, they are sorta fun, but can feel very grindy fast.
I'm wondering how well some of you are doing? Island Expeditions? Just WQs? etc.. If you have more than one team, how the diff comps feel on expeditions?
Islands are just to grind some AP and get some mounts and pets if you are lucky. Those droprates are veeeery low.
Those islands get old fast though.
Its possible to spread out and pull the entire island into the center spot and stun, cc and aoe everything down. Usually one island clear takes 6 or so minutes, with a good group. You can spam doing this.
I havent tried this multiboxing though. I guess if i wanted to really focus on getting 3 characters good geared and AP levels, i would just play with 1 character at a time. Like today is monday, i will play character nr 1 today spamming islands. If you really wanted.
I did world quests once to complete the "100 different ones" achievenent, in a 5 man party. Since then ive only done the "kill/slay nameofmob" ones in a raid grp with all my characters if im bored.
I'm uncertain there is an quick and infinite way to do so, at the moment.
Blizzard clearly want the azerite focused into non-repeatable content to try and avoid the "Maw of Souls problem" we had with AP in Legion. My little checklist of things to do is:
- WQs. 300 azerite for 30 seconds knocking over a rare? Yes please. The "World Azerite Detector" research is worth taking and looks to be a 15% chance to get an extra 50 azerite per world quest.
- Island expeditions weekly. 2500 azerite is a big chunk, and its absolutely worth it to do that each week.
- Warfronts. No idea if the warfronts themselves will reward azerite (probably will), but the quests in Arathi basin do, and each of the rares seems to drop a decent lump of azerite each. The understanding is that you can loot them once every 3 days, but nobody can confirm this until tomorrow.
- Warfront turn ins. 500 azerite a pop, but can get quite expensive when havign to assemble 5 times as much stuff.
- Seals. The booby prize for not getting loot on a bonus roll is 500 azerite, which is pretty nice, actually.
- Emissaries. Even if the reward is useless, it always comes with 400 azerite.
- Follower missions. Some of the missions are pretty decent azerite by themselves, and you can supplement that with engineering's Makeshift Azerite Detector... though 50 expulsom makes them expensive. They seem to proc on a low chance (probably 15% again) for 250 azerite a proc.
- Pride of Kul Tiras/Zandalar Forever. Only doable once, but if you haven't done the lvl 120 questline for your faction yet, there's a LOT of azerite in it for you. The dungeons are doable on normal until you unlock your faction's mythic only dungeon at the end.
If you've done all of those, then island expeditions do seem to be the fastest way of farming azerite on a single character. However, given that you have to do about twice as many with a team of five for the same progress, I suspect heroic dungeon spamming might be faster, depending on clear speed, though the azerite is very underwhelming. Certainly, I'd be doing the above checklist before even thinking about spamming anything, though.
For what its worth, Mythic dungeons are underwhelming azerite as well: 35 a boss, 50 for the final boss in +0s, 200 + 10/level above 2 in Mythic pluses. It'll add up to something if you are running the content anyway, but doing a "world tour" of +0s each week is not a good AP farm like it was in Legion.
You know, for me this is a real problem this expansion.
I can get gear. I get excited when I see something drop, then realize the first ring is 6 levels higher than my current necklace level XD
Need to try out some of these tips I guess.
So has no one successfully multiboxed the Island Expeditions? Too hectic?
What do you need the gear for? Are you pushing hard content on your own?
Out in the world, everything dies quickly with 5 man.
If you truely need better gear for some reason, contact a good guild and make them boost your characters weekly thru mythic +'es, raids and whatnot ;) Or maybe focus on gearing 1 character at a time.
Personally i just cant be bothered. Im picking up cheap'ish gear items on the AH and as long as stuff dies pretty fast im content. Aiming to get all to as close as possible to 330+ ilvl i can. But no drama if i cant get some pieces here and there. Most of my characters are around 310 ilvl so far.
Usually also some good random pieces from the new warfront and world boss. There are like 28 rares in arathi you can kill weekly and each can, if lucky, give 340+ ilvl items. Thats insane.
You can complete the warfront over and over again, without having the quest. It rewards one garanteed 340+ item, which can titanforge to 390. Takes 30 min per run. Act now if bored and need gear.
I have boxed island expeditions with not many problems. Had slaves kicked out of he instance twice in a row, but still got credit for them being completed.Quote:

Ive won most of the expeditions, but will only do this for one more week, so i can get progress on my "order hall" progress
Are you solely killing things for azerite, harvesting nodes or both? Just curious if you can corral and blast down everything or not.Quote:

Sniping kill quests is the best thing IMO plus doing the WQs every day.
I do get the annoying part of getting a piece of gear that you can't use the traits out of for a few levels. My amulet is lvl 19 and I'm doing mythic+ and can barely use any of the traits.
Both because sometimes its a bit hard to find a good group of mobs to kill. Sure, there are some single mobs, but thats not helping you much. You want as many mobs (preferably elites and rares) as possible piled up.Quote:

Before I had attempted my first island I was firmly against the idea of farming artifact power and still am. I personally have been running with my “master” and two of the slaves at a time. Rotating the two slaves out in order to complete the weekly on all toons. My team is currently all sitting at 845-850 ilvl and all necks are lvl 22. i only run normals avoiding literally everything I can except rare mobs. I don’t mine anything or open any “unnamed” chests. I only kill rare named mobs and open specially named chests as they are the only things that offer rewards. The drop rates have been increased and I have managed to get up to 4 rare items on a character in a single normal island. The drop rates of items doesn’t increase per difficulty so spamming normals is the most efficient. In the past two weeks I’ve made over 500k selling the transmog/pets on the AH. On my server not many have the items posted and for the most part it seems people hate doing island expeditions anyways giving me even more of a niche.
Island expeditions has become my primary way of making gold and it also has the added benefit of being the best way to farm artifact power. I also find them really fun from a time trial sense. Trying to beat my old time and figure out the most efficient routes to move across the islands. It’s also given me a whole new reason to farm specific Azeroth traits just for island expeditions. I’d highly recommend people spend an hour or two just running normal islands killing ONLY rares and see the results. if I didn’t multibox id hate islands I’m sure with how low the drop rates are, as a boxer, I love them.

Druids are by far my favorite with their current traits.
I didnt know the pets were boe.. i bet i have clicked on many of them. I use my 3 prots and just mass slay as many as I can gather. When you says rares, you mean mobs that show as skulls on the map?
Not all of the island expedition pets are cageable, about half are. By rares I mean anything with a silver dragon. Something I have found odd is that not all mobs with silver skulls show up on the map. Some do others just, don’t. I believe this is to force the player into exploring every inch of the island (which I enjoy). You really have to look for them. If you go by your minimap you will miss a third of the rares that are on the island. Last thing I forgot to mention is that I also complete any quests I come across as those also have a chance to reward items at the end of the scenario.Quote:

You get rewards for winning or losing it doesn’t matter, the only difference is a small amount of artifact power.
