Hi, I don't understand what I am doing wrong, it's so slow at levelling, it's been a month and I am only 28, if I was doing 1 at a time I would be 44 by now at least (only one 1 mind) so is this just the way it is on multi boxing i.e. it takes ages to level or is something you would say, should be doing the following i.e. do only instances or what not? or do I need a lvl 70 to boost my lvl 28's in a raid?
If this is your first time multi-boxing it will take you longer than normal. Just by looking at your group make up that's a lot of classes to do as a starter group.If you stick with it and reach 70, you will be a master of micro-management. What "feels" like the fastest route to me is doing 1-15ish questing, 15-42 instancing. Then from 42-58 do quests and instance quests. 60-70 quest/instance grind mix and match to your "needs" with 2.4 5man quests are worth a lot more now so this will help.
It certainly sounds slow...
With 2.3 hawtness there's no reason at level 20+ to be getting a level each every play session imo.
Are you questing? You should be imo, there's more quests than you can ever do I found, and again - new xp rewards are massive.
Are you grinding? Ugh. Of course it can be done, but I'd venture the only way it'd be viable is with huge AoE.
I'd certainly suggest Instancing if you find your setup is able to. Check our wiki for instance/level guides. Especially instance to complete the quests in each, those in particular have fantastic xp/rewards now that 2.3 revamped so much.
Do a search for leveling guides too, they are almost all written from solo perspective but there's no reason you can't use them as a template for 5-man leveling. I use Team iDemise, Joanna's etc. They can be found all over the place *cough*
Just a quick note since you mentioned raiding. Don't ever try to level in a raid! It reduces XP gained from kills by something like 75% as soon as you convert to a raid. Also, you can't progress on any quests while in a raid unless the quest specifically says it is a raid quest.
Just outta curiousity what is your played time this past month? The reason I ask is cuz a crazed wow addict such as myself might play as much as 120-160 hrs of wow in one month while a much more causal player might only play 40 hrs in that same month. Also your first team will have you considering quite a bit which macros to put where which also can take quite some time. So in reality a better question would be to perhaps what is your /played time on this particular team?
I leveled my 5-man almost exclusively in instances from 20ish to 60ish. Very fast. It slows down at 60-70.
I took instance breaks to do pre-reqs for instance quests. Also went to The Hinterlands and did the bunch of quests in the elite troll city there (Jintha'Alor?) as you get quite a lot of quests for it and with a 5-man it can be knocked off very quickly for mega xp and some decent trinkets.
Cheers my problem was I wasn't doing the instance quests at the same time, so I was either questing or trying out an instance but really should combine both.. was miffed when I completed RFK because 1 of the quests, the one with the little gofers got broke in patch 2.4 and they did not fixed it in patch 2.4.1 GM confirmed it was just tuff luck, oh well. Also started doing the get 10 of items from x quests, sure I need to collect 50 and if drop rate is poor that could mean killing 200 odd mobs but this while boring has helped in past day also.
With regards to played time it's so far 3 days 22 hours but a good while seems to be spent selling stuff to vendors (I kid you not takes ages to empty the bags) and testing out Macros, plus the class quests, Druid ones took a while, Shaman ones where just a joke how they had you running every place.
I have 3 lvl 70s and 1x lvl 64 on Alliance (not multi-boxed), never done Horde until I started multi boxing last month... but for example my total time played on my Pally at 64 is 4 days and 15 hours... so can see why I am a little concerned I was doing things wrong on my multi-box.
I am finding my first time a little slow aswell. Your best bet is too dump 1 of your toons at a zzz area. Grab that pally and burn through a ton of instances. Instances are better than questing!! I went from 20-40 in sm alone. It went fast. I decided to try questing and i have only got to 49. Seriously went through 3-4lvls per session in sm. Closer i got to the adequate levels for my guys the quicker it went.
One of the things that takes up a ton of my time is the damn show i like to put on for the mass's in major cities. I had a ton of dudes following me going are you a GM. Tell me how you do that....dont worry keyclone guy i told them...dont worry website guy i mentioned that too.
So far my schedule has been.....1-10 Quests in spawn area...10-15 Deadmines....15-20 Stockades....20-40 SM (library until they all got staff's from first boss then cathedral until 40)...i then went to a combination of areas including (hopefully in the right order) arathi highlands, south shore, aerie peak,tanaris, badlands all questing. At 46 i was able to solo Zul Farrak so i stayed there for a lvl just to pass time between quests. Also some nice upgrades. Not an easy instance to do for 3shamans-2mages wearing mostly SM blues. 46-49 combination of quests/zul farrak. (buddy of mine just ran me through lbrs and it was shockingly low xp raids/levelling just dont mix the per hour xp was two and a half times longer than when i was just shotting mobs myself right outside the instance)
What i like to do is set a day schedule for my levelling. Set a goal. Sort of have a general idea of where you want to do this etc. Stick to it! Soon as you shoot that horde flags go up and toss your schedule out the window. PVP GETS NO XP!!
I think you will do much better once you get to 40 and can move your whole grp much faster. do not do collection quests. only if they drop on every mob. you can start SM at your lvl. that should speed things up
My first 4-box setup took me like 19 days /played to hit 70, and I didn't pussy-foot around. I just didn't know then what I know now. Use the available leveling guides, like Jame's or Joana's to increase your efficiency. Also, skip any collection quest that doesn't lead to a dungeon quest or a great piece of loot that fills a gap/need for the next several levels.
I'm at about 6 days exactly on my 5 shamans at lvl 61.75 My friends mage helped me through 20-42 though.Quote:

If you dont' have one already, create a mule or vendor trash toon so you can dump all your stuff via mail. That way you can just take care of the vendor trash or AH the stuff a few times a week or whenever you get done with your leveling session. I find that this helps keep you in the groove better.Quote:

Well this is what I did...
1-19 questing in draenei area
Dropped one of the shamans and started pwr boosting on my Draenei paladin.
19-25 stockades
25-40 SM armory & Cath
40-50 ZF...
Now I'm boosting my 5th shaman with my human paladin
currently in SM at lvl 38 with my 5th.
Fortunately for my multiboxing purposes I have 2 paladins on 2 different accounts :) My 4x 50 shamans are at roughly 24 hours played. My 38 is at 13hrs rougly. This is my first team and includes time spent figuring out macros, testing them and such. I might also mention that the 5th shaman is going much quicker than the first 4, of course that's largely due to to fact that I already know exactly how to pull the zones now as I just did quite a bit of trail and error.
In hind sight I think this my of been a bit better for a boosting schedule...
1) 1-15 questing
2) 15-20 Dead mines boosting
3) 20-25 stocks
4) 25-42 SM arm & cath
5) 42-48ish ZF
6) 48-53 ST
7) 53-58 Strat (strat may be a bit slower depending on your gear but it is a gold mine for a disenchanter and orbs)
Around the time you hit ZF I'd probalby start using your alts to help dps if you haven't figured out the macro set-ups already.

I would do this if you 5-box without boosting! Most instances underwent some level nerfs, but the following list will all be doable at the levels with a 5 box.)
1) 1-12 questing
2) 12-16 RFC
2) 16-22 Wailing Caverns Dead mines (18-22 Shadowfang Keep)
3) 22-24 Quest or BFD. Personally I hate BFD so I skipped that. Exp in BFD isn't that great either really. And lower instances won't give much experience anymore by now.
4) 24-29 RFK, Then again, I like RFK. It's easy, doesn't bore as much as most instances and good experience.
5) 29-32 SM Graveyard
6) 32-35 SM Library
7) 35-38 SM Armory + RFD
8) 38-42 SM Cath
If you have a level 70, you can do 3-8 in SM cath by boosting, even for a 5 box boosting 3 chars first, then 2, it's worth it. SM cath will give massive exp when boosting very fast. I, as enhancement shaman, took 6 hours played time to go from 31-40. And that's without AoE! Do that twice, 12 hours, won't beat doing instances as a full 5-box.
9) 42-46 ZF
10) 46-48 Hinterlands quests. (They're lovely.)
11) 48-50 Maraudon/ST I like the setting of Maraudon and find ST very boring, though you would get more exp in ST per hour. Preference though. :p
12) 50-56 BRD First the prison area and spiral upto arena, and take it a step further as you level and can handle more. Last few levels, farm Bael'gar on the left side. Also quite some quests for good experience.
13) 57-58 LBRS. Really, this instance is pretty awesome for experience, not many patrols and easy pulls. Ideally, clear the way to the ogre. Then do the troll part and then the firebrand legion part. Upto the spiders. Zone out, rinse and repeat. After Spiders the exp per hour won't be that great anymore, and the spiders, even though only a few pulls, are annoying anyways.
14) 58-60 Outlands quests
15) 60+ Outland instances or questing, whatever. :)
Questing is still better then doing instance grinding, esp. with level > 30 . Since 2.3 the relationship between quests available and exp points needed is much better. I am level 49 now and making > 40k exp / h since level 47. I also do instances of course but only if I got the quests for those. www.wow-pro.com (Jame's guides) helped me a lot to find all the good quests, just skipped the collection quests and added instances.
I found certain zones worth it, while other zones simply weren't. And it's about 60k per hour in instances with a 5 box without boosting, as long as you can get the will to keep going without clacking that is. :p But there is usually the problem, grinding can be demoralizing.Quote:

For horde for example, Hinterlands is a fun easy level, not too many annoying quests for groups etc.
What I did is, grind instances, do some questing when I am demoralized, grind instances again. That way I could skip all annoying quests. :p
You do 60k exp / h in Zul Farrak , Maraudon and Sunken Temple? Without rested bonus? How?
One full ZF run is about 80-90k exp. It's easily clearable in 1,5 hour. Open all graves, stuff like that, kill all beetles. Just keep killing and kill all trash. Don't skip trash.
I finished ZF in 2 hours, was < 30k exp. You always have an exp points / h Addon running? What is your group composition? I am currently at level 49 and if I can boost my exp output by 50% I really liked to know :D
We (me playing 3, my brother playing 2 toons) got a prot pala, holy priest, 2 frost mages and and an elemental shaman.

Well, I leveled 75%ish in one ZF run at 42-45 :p And took 2 hours played time per level. That's all the reference I got. Manually typing in /played before dinging and checking how much my exp increased per run. xP
I just kill all mobs, all bugs, sidetrack too and there's like mountains with x mobs, pull a few together at the same time, etc.
Always have the 'tank' go ahead and pull loose mobs to as much you can handle and keep the DPS at a fixed spot as you bring mobs to them. And move further step by step area for area. Definatly openeing up all graves is good for exp too though. People tend to skip that, but there's like, LOADS of mobs in a very small area, you just have to clikc the darn graves. XD That part exp/hour is probably highest.
Hmm... Has that something to do with you signature then ;-) You were power leveling 4 shamans with a level 70 shaman? And you did it before patch 2.3? Because with patch 2.3 one needs less then 100k exp / level at level 48. So getting 1 level in 2 hours at level 43 means about 40k exp / h.
Hope I am not annoying... I always check for correct numbers :S
Ugh it's been a while, and those runs were with a seperate equally level tank. The boost runs I did (from 35-42 in ZF with my main) took 40 minutes per full run. :p
Quest like crazy, teamidemise' guide rocks. use it and omit any quests that have you gathering tons of crap that only drop off 1/10 mobs, those quests take an hour on 1 char, dont do it on 5 chars! make a bank char and mail EVERYTHING to that char and let that char sell everything every day or 2, dont waste trips to banks and shit. also dont do class quests with 5 chars, just take the 1 char there and do the quest alone, and do it about 5 levels after you are meant to do it so it is a cakewalk for you. not bringing the other 4 chars with will save you time managing useless chars on a solo quest. If you wanna run instances do that too although on purple exp they will be slower exp gains then quest grinding, if on blue exp run instances like mad.
