Warriors or Rogues - anyone uses them?

Hey guys, BZM 'the n00b multiboxer' here!

Been multiboxing for like 3 days and love it.

Currently I've learned that casters and ranged are great for boxing. Also paladin tanks are OP!

So as I'm building my groups and skills up to running an actual mixed 5 man team, I have the following plans:

For sure will level:
Healers / Ranged DPS - shamans, hunters, druids, priests, mages, warlocks
Tanks / Melee - paladins, DKs, monks

This sort of leaves Warriors and Rogues out. Is there any reason to build a group of these classes?

Melee take some special handling and I think most people would recommend using ranged classes to learn. But there is nothing you cant do boxing really. Once you get all the basics down you'll be able to box melee just as well as anything else.

I've tried all types of tanks, all types of healers, all types of DPS, and probably all combinations of classes. And only thing I know for sure is everyone likes something different, and every expansion changes things.

This expansion my favorites are BM hunters, Mages (I use the portal so much but they're squishy), Disc Priest, Pali tank.

As JG said, the main reason people tend to avoid melee (initially atleast) is that they add a bit of difficulty. That being said if you are up to the challenge or just revel at the prospect of shiny new buttons to micro manage with, then go for it. It's all viable, but just expect to encounter new obstacles and annoyances

I always found it more important for my enjoyment for me to genuinely like the setup and characters over having the absolute maximum output possible (as long as I am not hitting an absolute wall), so I absolutely understand the desire to run even silly and wonky comps just for the fun factor.

Complexity is somewhat linear when adding different classes e.g. if you have all hunters you only have to manage one set of macros/keys, whereas adding a healer to your hunters means you have to manage two sets. Mixing ranged and melee can add another axis of complexity to the key configuration matrix.

Since you're using ISBoxer, if you haven't already, take a good look at the Pro system video series by MiRai. That setup dramatically reduces the amount of manual configuration/reconfiguration you have to do when managing variable and mixed teams. Wrapping your head around the way it "overloads" the keymaps can be daunting at first but once it clicks, you'll never look back.

I personally have never leveled a warrior past 30 or so, but I had a 4x sub rogue team last xpac that was a ton of fun to play pre-pvp damage nerf.

At this point, I have also made a team of 4 shamans and got them to 19/20 (got a level 80 shaman already). So it's all coming quite nicely.

I guess I can level a team of rogues and warrior to 20 for completion reasons and then see what happens. Maybe I can find use for them in some team.

Yeah I wouldn't want to do a mixed team without the Pro system. especially if you plan on swapping different classes around to find the perfect team. So easy with the pro system.

Warrior has been my main for many, many years. Their mobility is just awesome.

Prot Warrior - Just make sure you have thunder clap on a good rotation. But utilizing his charge + a earth shield / bubble is just fantastic for quick aggro and can provide a really fast pace for your boxing team inside instances. He is def. a more offensive tank, than say the paladin.

Dps Spec - Never really used warrior this way (with multiboxing) except in PVP.

I had a few groups over the years using a rogue.
Don't think I was too impressed with how well I could utilize them at the time, since none of those teams of mine are still around lol!

I'll try a warrior for tank for sure. Just need to setup effective healing FX first. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Although I rarely do instances with either rogues or warriors I do enjoy playing them as a 5x class-only leveling team. The joy of 5x Charging Wars or the gank of 5x Shadowstep/Ambush Rogues cannot be underestimated.

Post Wrath I don't think I've ever used them for instance DPS.

Yes, I have leveled every 5 man team comp of the same class to 100 and tested them all in PvP. You can read my article in the PvP section for "Power Ranking all Classes" for more information.

Rogues were the worst team I ever tried (I think I made it to level 15).

The only rogue I own is a draenor boost for opening lockboxes.


edit: I'm not a huge melee person but I've used monks and ferals in teams before.

I've been thinking of piecing together a melee group for gigs, but not sure if I'll ever actually do anything with them. Last time I tried a melee group (5 Paladins) I hated it so bad, made it to 60 then just could not bring myself to go any further. In fact, I think I deleted all of those characters.

My 5x protection paladins were my favorite group in WotLK. Blew up heroics with panache. Rogues, not so much; too fragile and very much a case of either one-shotting the targets or dying miserably. Warriors were interesting with better mobility. Druids were the closest to paladins but mostly because of the tons of gimmicks they had (stealth, tank or cat, etc.}.

Still prefer ranged for anything hard these days.

Yeah Ugh, I was running Prot, Ret x3, and Holy. It worked, and I'm sure with some more work I could've gotten it to work better, but it was more of a headache than anything else. I think Druids would be about the best, especially with abilities like Ysera's Gift healing away on whoever needs it.

I am currently leveling a 5 group exclusively through dungeons where I use a warrior tank. For me using charge/shockwave just adds that extra touch of fun. I have unedited footage of every instance till now (mid 70s) on youtube if you'd care.

As for rogues, I've multiboxed tripple sub rogues on and off during the past seasons in arena. They are incredibly fun but also a bit of a 1-trick pony.

My old raiding main is a Rogue, so I've been dragging him through since BC on various teams... (I can't bring myself to level a toon solo anymore... just seems so wasteful! So I've cobbled together a couple different approaches, none of them ideal for multiboxing, but I've managed to get passable DPS out of him, but still about 2/3 of what I can get on casters or other melee classes.

"Best" approach I found was to use ISBoxer to create a clickable video feeds window into the rogue window that shows a couple buttons and his combo points bar and then drop the finishing moves in there... put Sinister Strike on my spam button and then just manually click the finishing moves when combo points get to 4 or 5. Combine that with the Melee Interact with target mechanism and its acceptable.

Generally I love playing the rogue solo for questing and some max level stuff, but having him on a team for anything but the most basic leveling has just been painful...
