I only do them on 2 of my main toons now.. I dont see much point in starting new garry tables now with the expac not too far away.. yeah there is gold but still I value my sanity more!
I have... a lot of Garrisons. Even before I started boxing again I had 22. It's a problem.
For me, the trick is that you don't get sucked into doing tons of tedious crap everyday. So, prioritize.
First, get a Gem Boutique to level 2 with a follower in each Garrison. Additionally, you may want to add a Scribe's Quarters at 2 with a follower as well, depending on how much you're using your profession buildings (at this point I'm assuming not much). I use my own guild and bank to coordinate materials between all of my guys, so I just drop Mobile Banking between the two profession buildings, do the daily. Check the trader to see if there's mats worth getting and move my characters one by one to the mission table.
Once they're all there and I collect my mission rewards for the day, I broadcast mouse clicks and start accepting new missions, then log out. Doesn't take too much time actually and gets a fair amount of gold with all those easy dailies. But, with all of the Garrissons I have I DO go through the mats, hence checking the trader everyday at the Trading Post.
Amen. Setting limits on garrisons was one of the smartest things I did this xpac. 2 active professions, 2 garrisons, and that's it for what I let myself do.Quote:

I am also running all classes x5 so with 55 toons only 6 toons hold the professions i am capping, the others have JC and mining plus the treasure items for mining and herb and this speeds up mining a lot, but i also don't worry about the mine or garden to much, i focus on the barn and missions, getting Harrison Jones on everyone plus inn level 3 and war mill then just do missions and upgrade followers once a week or so. you want to focus on what will carry over to legion, so capping professions and gold capping is my goal. and i make most if not 95% of my gold from tagging kazz on all toons then holding the felblight until Friday and dump it on the AH plus FL and BoT. Point is there is no way to maintain a ton of Garrison so just focus on whats important to you. If its not fun its not worth doing.
i got burnt out in beta. so when live came and i changed my group a few times i just gave up now i do very little one a week if that
as for ship yards i did not even start them only what i had to do to get in the new zone.
so far seems like the same sort of thing is going to happen in legion with class halls
Currently in my team of 5 at level 3 townhall, everyone have the inn (not wise, but will change once I got everything I need), Dwarven Bunker (for crate increase), trading post (till I got enough resources and then will probably change it to barn), 6 profession, and scrapyard on every character. And one of them has a storage.
I will keep one of my trading post due to convenience sake (AH). So far I do mining and herbing on all my characters and put workorder on professions. It does get really tedious to say the truth but those crafting items takes a lot of materials to craft and helps to have those ores. However since these ores are so cheap and once you got the recepie to produce materials without cooldown makes things better.
I have had the same thoughts recently about optimizing my time and focusing on different professions/garrison buildings/etc., as I added 3 new accounts during the recent WoW sale during the holidays, for a total of 5. It's interesting to see others that are thinking along the same lines as to maximizing profitability and pruning out the activities that are really just not worth our time, so I'd like to share what I've learned lately.
On my 3 new accounts, I boosted Druids (starfall from multiboxed boomkins with glyph of untamed stars is the apex of insanity, I LOVE IT!) -- I feel like tailoring is probably the most profitable profession, 1 barn can get you the fur you need for almost 3 days worth of production, or 3 toons @ 1 day production, so on each tailor you can average crafting about 1 bag every 1.5 days with rush work orders, if you can swing 280 extra fur + 28 primal spirits you can make 1 a day... SO, if you can put in enough time to get 15+ followers casually leveled to epic & 675 (LOL) and get some primal spirit missions, you can really churn out the bags. They sell for 850-1000g+ on my server.
Also, my UI's and action bars are pretty much uniform across all toons, so I broadcast and click the profession, and craft the daily materials and what-not in triplicate. If you take the time to think just a little bit ahead (but as someone said in another reply, "I value my sanity" -- same here) and keep your toons stocked with extra mats, you can avoid headaches and save some time. One option is to have engineering, either leveled high enough to use the MOLL-E portable mailbox, or you can purchase the one from the engineering building but the problem is you'd have to go and purchase a new one after the charges run out, seems like it would be useless for what i'm thinking, but if you had very little to do on some days, you could logout at the desired building or area and the next time you login, craft your stuff, open mailbox, mail stuff off (see below about how TSM can help you with that) and roll your next team or whatever... I've found that trying to get multiboxed toons running around their separate garrisons at the same time is difficult at best, sometimes I will get one of them moving by using click-to-move, go to the next window, repeat, etc. and then try to broadcast and click to pick up work orders, etc. but it seems to get a little crazy.
The JC and scribe dailies are good too, but that means you'd have to farm or buy/trade for more ore/herbs. If you use Jamba and TSM, you can click the guy once to auto-accept the quest, open your profession, and a new feature of the latest TSM is a "smart-craft" for the JC daily, which can show up when you have the quest, allow you to 1-click craft what you need, click him again to turn-in the quest automatically, open your bag of between 100-299g and be done. I've found that using Jamba on all my toons for this purpose has saved me a lot of time every day. A nice idea might be a target/interact macro for the quest giver that could easily be broadcast.
Barns! 42 large crates = 1 week of production, and I was curious how long it actually takes me to get that many, I was running a warlock and mage and managed to get 42 wolves in 15 minutes. 15 minutes per week per team!!!!!!!! So, 1 hour of work = 1 month of barn work orders, and then you could consider only collecting materials from them every 3 days (you could go 5 if you had a level 3 storehouse) to save time. TSM (TradeSkillMaster) has become my best friend lately, and has saved me at least 30 minutes a day or more in tedious repetitive nonsense. It takes a little bit of tinkering with but the latest release seems to have made groups and operations (auction posting/mailing/etc) a lot easier. I found that I'm repeatedly mailing crafts to my main to be auctioned, herbs to my scribe, frostweed to my alchemists, etc. so I set up groups to do that, so I effectively am able to just walk to the mailbox, click a button, and all my stuff gets mailed to the right person without having to wring my hands and think about it. I have auctioning groups set up the same way. I was reluctant to set up so many automatic processes in fear that I would just mindlessly start selling stuff for too cheap, but after you run a post scan of the stuff you've configured to sell, you can quickly review the post prices at a glance and confirm or skip, or configure parameters for your high/low prices. It took a few hours to configure, and it's sort of an ongoing thing for a while, but I was so happy when I realized it was saving me a lot of time since I didn't have to personally iterate through every item I wanted to sell, scan, post (in multiples usually), so that's like 10+ clicks or whatever for each item(s), so inevitably hundreds of clicks condensed down to like, 1....
I hope some of this information is useful. I am fairly noobish to multiboxing (at least, multiboxing more than 2 accounts) so if I've reinvented the wheel here on some of my ideas, I apologize. I would love to discuss this topic more... lol!
Another note, I had a though about the garrison mine... I usually only mine 3 of my toons garrisons per day, that seems to be enough ore for me lately. However, I had the thought that, since they usually have tons of extra draenic stone for the mine work orders, I could alternate out another set of 3, and both sets of 3 would have 100% work order production each day, thereby giving you the production of 6 mines each day (work orders), but still only having to mine on 3 toons each day... !!! Also, on the toons I mine with, I always do it last and place work orders first from the previous day's draenic stone, then run through and mine everything, then use the garrison hearthstone at the end to save the 30-45s run back. (Hell, it's probably only like 20 seconds, but it's so tedious)... just a time-saving tip I thought I'd share, seems fairly obvious, though.

I haven't been on the forum for a long time but wanted to add to the Garrison discussion.
The idea of running missions on followers appealed to me. It feels like I'm being "productive" on my alts when otherwise I probably wouldn't play them much. So when WoD hit I decided to focus on Garrisons and missions. I've been running 55 level 3 garrisons for a while now. Here are some random comments (and some comments on shipyards following):
- I typically do missions twice a day when I'm keeping up with things. Doesn't take too much time to roll through all the toons.
- Buildings are: Barracks (3), Bunker (2), Enchanters (1), Inn (3), Salvage (3), Storehouse (3), Trading Post (1)
- Initially I picked up followers while questing and then filled in to 25 via the Inn. Most of my initial recruits where Scavengers (there were no Treasure Hunters or Greesemonkeys then). On later teams I opt'd out of most quest or area followers and focused on mission reward specific followers from the Inn (Blook being an exception). My rule of thumb on later teams was a balance of 25% Oil, 25% GR, 50% Gold reward followers which seems to allow good coverage base on mission offered.
- My rule of thumb for recruiting was to recruit followers with the reward Trait as weighted above and having the lowest count of Ability within my current list of followers. I break this rule if a rare follower recruit has the second Trait that doubles up one of the mentioned above or Extra Training.
- Mission priority were Toon XP mission when I was < 100 on the toon. After dinging everybody to 100 then I would prioritize Raid > Follower Armor Tokens > Oil > GR > Gold > Epics > Follower XP. At some point you don't need Follower Armor Tokens but it takes a while.
- Toons are generally always parked at the mission table. About once a week I run them out to empty cache and dump excess GR (> 5000) by buying either Dust or Cloth (@ 4GR). I'd also visit the Bunker and pickup and requeue Work Orders for follower armor upgrade tokens.
- About once a month when I have more time I'll do the above but also convert all my armor scraps at the Bunker to a Thunderlord Sabatons and DE all of them to dust. Also during this run around I'll hit the scrapyard and open crates. I vendor everything from the crates except for WoD BoE epics and WoD crafting mats. I'll sometimes DE the 610 BoP blues because they vendor for nothing but produce a standard amount of dust but this too adds a lot of time to service all 55 toons. Just depends on my lazy factor that day.
This cycle is pretty self sustaining in that I don't lack GR and everything just seems to balance out between my gaming time and 55 toons. I've opt'd out of doing other activities such as Barn, Lumber Mill, Crafting Mats, Mining, Herb, etc etc because, for me at least, it doesn't scale to 55 Garrisons. It takes too much time to run each toon around for the reward. I tried several mixes early on but finally settled on this based on trying to keep all 55 Garrisons overall productive but not having to micro each team.
I thus far have enjoyed WoD a lot because of Garrisons vs say the past two expansions. When I have time to play I'd queue my 100 garrisons up with missions and then focus on leveling a < 100 team. It's odd to say playing WoW can ever feel "productive" but that's what garrisons added for me. Something always cooking in the background when leveling or not playing at all.
Shipyards...I'll add another post because they've been a different animal.

When the patch hit that added Shipyards I was fairly disappointed because of the level of micro management (running around) that each toon required to get the Shipyard started initially and then eventually to run naval missions was/is high. So, at first, I decided to not even mess with them. Follower missions kept me happy.
Well, at one point I decided to just focus on my mains an went down to boxing 1 account vs 5. I ran LFR on the different classes to see WoD content and mix things up for a bit. Anyway, during this time I decided to fart around with Shipyards on my mains. What I didn't know early on was eventually you get the Admiral's Compass and then at Shipyard 3 you get the naval command table in your garrison! So...when I started to 5 box again I started Shipyards.
Whereas the time commitment to get 55 level 3 garrisons was, for me, not too too bad; The time required for Shipyards is painful BUT it is doable. I started doing these late. I'm only running level 3 shipyards on 1 or two teams. 3 teams haven't even started shipyyards and the rest mostly level 2.
Random thoughts:
- The blue BoAs and the raid epics are nice but overall the rewards from Shipyards (i.e., Gold) is no where near as fruitful vs follower missions.
- Shipyards do not appear to be self-sustaining with Oil (where follower missions with GR are). I'm not 100% on this yet because my Shipyard 3 toons don't have the best mix of followers (i.e., not a lot of Greesemonkey followers). Once other teams with better follower mixes get Shipyard 3 then I'll see. I also don't have the Rep required to get the Oil Rig on any team.
- What this means is having to running the Rep/Oil daily in TJ. For teams that are starved on Oil I'll sometimes do the daily. But what I've been doing (again a lazy factor and a time factor here) is I simply park them and run follower missions exclusively for week(s) until they have collected a solid amount of Oil and then I'll park them exclusively at the naval mission table until they run out of Oil. In a world with unlimited time I'd do the daily and follower missions and naval missions but the micro to run everybody around takes time so I try to minimize this and focus on just keeping all 55 toons busy...somewhere.
- Admiral's Compass is rewarded at Seaman which requires 50 (any type mission). One optimization may be to run only low cost Oil (50) missions until you get the Compass and thus can ping-pong between follower and naval missions without a lot of micro movement of teams. The alternative is to grind the 15 (any type) naval missions to shipyard 2 then the 25 treasure missions to ding shipyard 3. The rub here is the 25 treasure missions all require a minimum of 75 oil each which adds up plus the Oil required for new ships as you level up. I'm not sure what is best as this time as I'm still try each. Another alternative is to build up enough Oil by doing the TJ daily and follower missions until you have enough to ding level 3 shipyard and then camp the naval command table until then. I'll try to report back what seems to work best in the future.
- I run any naval mission with a success rate of >= 85%. I've only lost a couple ships.
- Forgetting the leveling optimizations mentioned above I try to run the BoA blue token treasure missions as a priority over everything else except the raid treasure mission.
- I had one toon run around and do the raids/quests to get the blueprints for the rest. Only the rep one is not available across accounts.
That about it for my brain dump on shipyards. Again, I'm still working on them so I'm learning more as I go. But at this time I do feel the rewards from shipyards aren't even close to that from follower missions.
If you have questions ask away. I lurk a lot here and have always found this site and the multiboxing community to be a great learning resource. For example, today I learned about loot-a-rang!!! Gotta get my Engineer on it.

I don't even bother with the shipyard on most of my alts, too much of a hassle to set up, farm the blueprints, get the right traits (dwarf/goblin), have enough oil, and prob the most frustrating part is getting that rare 2000g mission to spawn on an alt with a weak shipyard. I believe that mission is once a month per account, so for me no point in having more than 1 lvl3 stacked shipyard per entire account.
edit: oh and the risk of failing a 98% mission and losing both ships lol
This was changed in a previous patch. Now the higher the success rate the lower the chance of losing a ship, at 90% success rate you now have 0% chance of losing a ship.Quote:

Heh, I have 110x Dwarven Bunkers, and I did not know that you can actually vendor that stuff you buy with the scraps. I have never used the scraps for anything, so my toons have hundreds of thousands (edit: around 66k) of them :D Thanks for the heads up! :)Quote:

in TSM3 you can set up groups for items, and then attach certain operations to each group. I have one giant group called "BoEs" which contains all the BoE items ever introduced in game. I have attached TSM Vendoring operation to that group, so whenever I click a button, the TSM3 vendorsells all items (in that BoE group) which have market value less than 500g (dbmarket or whatever, you can change it many ways), and more valuable items just sit tight in my inventory.
This makes my life in Salvage Yards so much easier, and I don't accidentally ever vendorsell BoPs, tradegoods or anything because the selling is limited to that certain BoE group. Setting up such a huge group wasn't something that can be done in 5 minutes, but I wrote a php tool which converts a wowhead search into TSM3 string, which can be then imported into TSM3 addon. Wowhead limits the searches to 1000 items at once, so I divided that large group into smaller subgroups, based on item levels.

I always log 10 toons at once, the leader forms a raid, and the slaves join leader's garrison, and then they all just spam crate opening macros on leader's SY, once in a while selling everything not-so-valuable, and so on :) Quick and efficient.
Enabling 110 Salvage Yards was a bitch thing to do though. The pre-quest required to pick up 1760 items from the ground in total.. :D
With 110 Garrisions, what strategy do you use to send your followers on missions?
I'm using only Master Plan addon, which allows sorting missions in different ways. I prefer the first option 'Reward type' and then I just right click spam the first mission on the list so the followers will go into tentative parties and pushing the current mission to the bottom of the list as it's "ready to go" and after this is done -> "send tentative parties"Quote:

I finished getting shipyards on all of my toons. Ultimately what I'm trying to do is get the naval command table in my garrison (level 3 shipyard) with the minimal amount of running around between the garrison and the shipyard until then. The two quests for shipyard upgrade are:

What I noticed as I've been grinding toons at the shipyard is successful treasure missions done during the first quest seem to count as progress on the second. I.e., when I've accepted the second quest I'll see a handful of completed missions right away.
So, I think the lazy Bunk way that I'm going to approach getting all toons to a level 3 shipyard is:
- Park them at the garrison command table and continue spamming follower missions.
- Hearth to TJ to do Oil daily as much as time allows on all teams.
- Build up about 5000 oil on each toon. Assuming naval treasure missions average 125 oil per mission times 40 were talking roughly 5000 oil.
- Once at 5000 oil move the toon to the naval command table and stay there until they ding level 3 shipyard running only treasure missions.
Running the daily will help push rep to get the Oil Rig but from what I'm seeing now you'll have 5000 oil before you have the Rep. Without the Oil Rig it seems that you can not run self-sustained naval missions. So I'm not sure where this will leave me. My hope is that with a good amount of Greesemonkeys that I'll be able to run select naval missions as needed. But without the Oil Rig I won't be able to outright spam naval missions. Time will tell.

I wanted to follow-up and confirm that treasure missions done for "Upgrading the Fleet" also count towards "Naval Domination". Saves ya some Oil getting your Shipyard running.
