Well, it's been about two years since I pieced my last computer together, and now I guess it's time for another one. I released sort of a teaser video today, but there will be more details to come later next week. :)

Funny how it almost always boils down to thermal efficiency.
I remember having to spray prototype 3DFX, S3 and ATI GPUs with freeze spray during evaluation testing. Never did have that problem with Matrox or NVidia. Was damned funny to be trucking along in a 2D video test and see the entire machine just freeze; spray it with a little freeze spray and it would pick back up again for a bit.
I like the case, though I cringe at the dust management.

This is my first attempt at any sort of water setup (CPU only), and I'm liking the results. That's why the next step forward is going to me putting everything under custom water. Doing so is a bit restrictive when it comes to upgrading, and that was why I initially didn't choose to do that with the GPUs, but I think I'll be okay because I have GPUs which should last me at least another year. I don't think I'd put the GPUs under a 'complex' water loop (which couldn't be re-used) if I was expecting to change them out in only a few months.Quote:

Why is it we never see carbon filters or something in computer cases for dust?
Commodity cost model, plus liquid pressure ratings on common PC case fans, IMO. You see some limited filtering on higher-end models. Mine has removable fine-mesh screens over all of the ingress/egress points. Most inexpensive fans don't do static pressure well, like your common box fan -- it can move a lot of air when it gets things moving but if you seal off an end, it doesn't move resistant air the way a rotary impeller or centrifugal fan (aka squirrel cage blower) does. Noctua makes some really nice, reliable and fairly inexpensive fans targeted at the new liquid-cooling radiators and are designed with a significantly higher (in some cases almost double) static pressure rating. I replace both of the noisy, cheap-crap Corsair fans on my Hydro H81 with a single Noctua NF-12 and it runs cooler at idle and load while also being significantly quieter.Quote:

Just wanna say I really like your videos. Some reasons...
1. How you come up with some of these ideas/concepts amaze me, let alone the implementation or programming skill. Same goes for Lax.
2. How you afford all this shit vs. how do you have enough time to do all this on the side, not sure which is more impressive.
3. I like your video editing in general. You will mention a concept, and usually put up a nice video sequence. I'm a visual learner, so your style helps someone like me greatly.
