I like the comparison with titan, which a lot of reviews don't. Even for a mini review.
I wish it had more memory.
There are already rumors floating around that we'll see a 980Ti sorta soon-ish, which I'll hold out for (and an 8GB version would be great, too).
Looking forward to the 980Ti as well, recently upgraded to a LG 34UM95-P monitor and really loving it :)
I got email from EVGA today, announcing their own versions of GTX 980 including a "superclocked" version for an extra $20.

Is there a (big) difference between the $569 EVGA GTX 980 and the $747 Gigabyte GTX 980 card?
The Gigabyte card uses their special Windforce air cooler to keep the temperatures down more than stock, but it also supposedly comes with better power delivery, as well as a better PCB and more connectors versus the stock setup. Is it worth $750? No, because it's normally listed at $630.
EVGA (bestbuy) must be crazy GTX Titan Z 12gb
I see amazon has it for $1500, I just didn't realize it was out yet the 12g card.
...I'm still waiting for the 980Ti
or you could pay http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-874-_-Product
the fact that is so much less might mean the 900 series Titan on the horizon?
If you were waiting for a 980 Ti, you're going to be waiting for well over a year. I'll probably go ahead and buy a plain old 980 for now.

Then I shall wait. I personally feel that a 256-bit bus is too weak to handle the incredibly high amount of pixels that we tend to push when multiboxing and it kinda shows in the latest round of 4K benchmarks where both the 780 Ti and R290X were able to keep up, or beat, the GTX 980 when it came time to really push -- Although I would have liked all of the in-game settings to have been matched up a bit better. I'm also able to hit the 3GB limit of VRAM on my 780 Tis, and I'm going to guess that once I enter Pandaria/Draenor that number is going to continue to rise, so I would also like to have access to more than 4GB of VRAM to see if I can really push the limits -- I'm, of course, speaking strictly from a 2560x1080 x5 on Ultra + MSAA standpoint.
No one can possibly know what the GTX 980 Ti will bring to the table if it's not going to be out for another year, but I find it hard to believe that nVidia is going to financially coast on GTX 970s and 980s.
If you're getting less-than-optimal performance you either drop your settings, your FPS, and/or your resolution, or upgrade your hardware. If you're trying to gauge where a GTX Titan sits on the charts these days it's about as powerful as a normal GTX 780.
Well i was asking your opinion about running 2 980's vs a single card.
my system consists of a intel 6core 3.2Ghz, 64gb ram on a asus black edition rampage iv, ssd raid (overclocked to 4.0Ghz, stable)
If you want compatibility and ease of use, then a single GPU -- The bigger, the better.
If you want the most performance with decreased compatibility, then multiple GPUs.
If someone is buying two GTX 760s to match, or exceed the performance of a single GTX 780 while trying to save some money, then I'd say the best course of action would be to just go with the GTX 780 right from the start. SLI scaling isn't always that great and adding in a second GTX 780 down the line when the budget allows for it is going to exceed the performance of sandwiching a third GTX 760 into the system; and that's if the system/case will even allow for a third GPU.
The above example is based off of the prices at launch of aforementioned GPUs -- There is currently no GTX 960 so the same comparison cannot be made with current generation hardware.
It seems I'll just stay with the titan until such a time they release the 980Ti , I appreciate you response on this issue.
I am able to run 5 clients with no problems, so 10 under my same system should cause no big issues.
I could support a 3rd video card with the giant case i have, and probably never have to heat my apartment again with the heat generated by that system...lol
Thanx
I'm running two Titans now. I haven't boxed in months, but when I did I wasn't that impressed. It's not like I could run all 5 windows (1920x1080) at max settings. I stopped ten (and 20 boxing) a while ago so not sure what improvement I would see there.
edit: I am running two monitors at 1920x1080 if you were wondering. 3930, 64GB ram, Samsung 840 pro x2, blah blah
Word on the street is that these are the new Titan II specs:
- 28 nm.
- 551 mm².
- 3072 CUDA cores.
- 384-bit GDDR5.
- 12 GB VRAM.
- 1100 MHz stock, 1390 MHz Boost

EDIT: I've also edited the title of the thread since it has moved away from just a GTX 980.
BTW, not sure if any of y'all are interested but if anyone picking up one of the bleeding-edge cards is interested in getting rid of your older 780Ti, let me know. I'd rather keep the money In The Family rather than buying new if I can find one that's been treated well. ;)
I think I'm going to skip over these (most likely) $1,000 28nm Titans and wait for the big boy 20nm Maxwell next year when the GTX 980 Tis are released. I'll most likely be selling two out of the three of my GTX 780 Tis (gotta move one over to the secondary machine to power my web browsing and IRC >_>) and if you're still interested then I'll let you know.
I realize that's probably quite a ways away. ;)
removed my post, and opening another later :)
I picked up boxing again a little while ago, during my hiatus from boxing I picked up two 1440p monitors and now my two old GTX 670 4GB are having a hard time delivering a good enough performance for my taste. Framerates varies from 30 ish to 60 at "good" settings on all 5 accounts wich I guess is reasonable but the upgrade itch is starting.
Form what I have observerd the GPU is a bottle neck at my current settings so I almost clicked "buy" on 2 GTX 980's but decided to do some more testing. Cranked every account up on highest settings with new models and observer VRAM usage go up to 99,2%. So now I an not sure if its worth it to upgrade to another 4GB card.
Does anyone more tech savvy have any deeper insights into what to aim for?
Although it was reported here that the 980 Ti's wouldn't be out for almost a year, recent news reports that the 980 Ti will be out this month. I'd consider a pair of those. They'll be available with more vram than the vanilla 980.
Cyberland has reported that the GTX 980 Ti release date is going to be on February 2015 despite rumors of a December 2014 launch going around.

kDramaStars... What kind of website is that?
question for the Nvidia guys...
Should I buy a 2nd 780ti
OR
wait, buy x2 980's or x2 980ti's?
At 1st glance the 780ti and the 980's look very close in specs, with the 780ti being maybe $100 cheaper atm
I have an OC 780ti and I'm waiting for a pair of 980tis. One of the biggest reasons is that the 980s use a *lot* less power than the 780s.
It definitely doesn't look like a computer hardware news site, and the webpage source in the article doesn't even work.
-_-
There doesn't seem to be much difference between the two, but I'm also waiting for the next round of Ti's or a sexy Titan-class GPU before upgrading.
Nvidia will reportedly release a mid-range Maxwell GPU – the GTX 960
