Any SWToR multiboxers actually left out there? Seems like multiboxing in SWToR is something most people don't do due to the learning curve.
I'm here. Currently 4-boxing.
It's a semi-steep learning curve, but once you understand how to set up your classes, adding more classes is a breeze. My two issues I've never been able to really solve to my satisfaction have been AOE's and channeled abilities. I'm in the habit of spamming my DPS keys and that usually doesn't mesh well with channeling. Thankfully I rarely miss it anymore as my group does fantastic damage without those abilities.
Right now though, I'm mainly doing dailies to build up credits for the other groups I'm trying to level.
I stopped boxing SWToR and moved on when they took away the Australian servers :(
I found SWToR doesn't box well with a high ping. EQ2 on the other hand is just fine.
Had a lot of fun duoing though.
I never worked out a good technique for the ground click AOE's which was a shame as they would have been very useful. Boxing I generally build my teams around good AOEers, I just love the chaos and destruction :)
I did build in waits for the channelled abilities (remove from ATG for specified time) but didn't bother using them much. Once you get in to the levels there are enough abilities that I hardly ever reached the end of the rotation.
The only AOE that I ever got working well was the AOE heal ability of my sage. Mainly because I could drop it at her feet. If needed while fighting, I'd pull her in (using Follow) and click the "AOE Heal" button I made. The next mouse click would be sent to her screen so all I had to do was click the bottom of my screen (right above the default hotbars). She'd heal the group then, but the downside was if we were getting hit with an AOE attack she would too. 99% of the time though it's not an issue.
TOR was the best massivley multi-player online single player game I've played. What utterly pissed me off was after spending $60 on the game and the monthly fee for 6 months, they had the nerve to make it free to play and took away everything I had paid for.

Want your hotbars back? Pay us.
Want to do your space missions? Pay us.
Umm... I did pay you. I paid a lot.
I received this email today after being told in game that multiboxing was against the rules so I put a ticket in asking them.

I had to submit two tickets as the first one they gave me a copy and paste answer about using the suggestion forums for any ideas I would like in the game. And this was the response to me asking in game directly is I was able to multibox swtor with ISBoxer.

Anyone else been told this .?
Holy crap, i never encountered that. i thought they were okay with multiboxing. i've never been asked or bothered by any gm in game. if this is true, they've lost a long time bioware fan. I'll cut my losses and never come back to the game.
I never got that and boxed for 4-5 months.
I think people have had that response before but once they pressed the case it was decided by higher-ups that boxing was allowed but you just couldn't use external macros and one key press had to correspond to one key press in game. For example pressing 1 on the keyboard could make each char press 1 and was OK.
If you press 1 on the keyboard though and then each character presses 1 to 0 in succession that was definitely banned.
The SWToR community is very anti boxing, in fact most of the community are a bunch of arses, so be careful what you say or do in public. I had people follow me around and call me names on the central hub just for having a character on follow, reminded me a lot of school which most of the community is like. I bet most of them were free to play as well while I had two subscriptions...
If you aren't banned then keep playing but don't do what you did to get noticed. Also only pay for a month in advance subscription in case you get banned and don't hold too much whatever their market place currency is.
Also don't ask if you can box, you can but don't get noticed...
Unfortunately that was the problem with it and why people quit in droves. The entire game was an oxymoron. Multiplayer single player? How's that even work? :)
My wife and I were both in the open beta, and then like you, each bought a copy and we were very discouraged. By 20th level we moved on and never went back to it. We weren't even able to play together, which is why we buy multiplayer games. I'm always a tank, and she's always a healer. Meant we were both just playing a single player game and then every once in awhile we'd play together to run an instance. Not at all why I play MMORPGs. (incidentally in the end it's what drove us away from FF14 ARR...same thing...a game that we had to play alone and occasionally could play together while leveling)
Since it went FTP I've given some thought to boxing it ... seeing now that they also frown on and go so far as to officially state they ban multiboxing saves me the time I guess.
I'd like to see them to ban everyone using a Nostromo or G15 type macro-able keyboard.
I see most of you guys are using ISboxer, and I know its only like $50 a year, but I'd rather use hotkeynet or keyclone. I also am using 2 desktops instead of 1, and I know ISboxer's specialty is 1 pc. Does anyone have working scripts for those program?
So there are no SWTOR vets out there anymore?
Well, there are SWTOR multiboxers out there, but the ones I've seen use ISBoxer, which you've specifically mentioned you'd like to avoid. I don't know of anyone using Keyclone or HKN to multibox SWTOR.
I guess it's time to pioneer the unknown frontier and then write a guide about it for others to use. :)
I use ISBoxer because I started out boxing with WinEQ years ago. I'm familiar with it and I've never had problems running multiple accounts (although I'm on 1 PC).
Did you set it up entirely on your own, or did you use Mosg's setup? Also, I have an Alienware Aurora R3 from summer of 2011, and everytime I play SWTOR, I get the intensive memory usage message. So do you have like a superpower computer to run all the accounts?? I'm curious how intensive that would be.
I run 4 accounts on an MSI Gaming Laptop on "Very Low" settings. I might be able to push higher but it runs fine with a 50-60 fps on my characters. My home computers are i5's (homebuilt) with 12-16GBs memory and 1GB graphics cards. No problems there either (same settings).
I used Mosg's setup in the beginning as I was just learning the program (I had quit EQ and WinEQ a couple of years ago so ISBoxer was pretty new to me). Once I got the hang of what what Keymaps really are and what they're used for I was off and flying. I've leveled a couple of groups 1-55 (mostly melee) and am now trying to dial in my ranged groups (currently doing KDY with a vanguard, 2 gunslingers, and a commando). Ranged to me has been a little harder to dial in perfectly, but it's starting to pick up speed.
I only check here ever so often since it's pretty dead, but feel free to ask me anything. I *think* I've got a good handle on a good setup. Once you set up the "framework", adding new characters becomes very simple.
Heh. I hardly am an expert.
When using ISBoxer, the most important thing is to use Virtual Combat Keys in addition to Action Target Groups (there are youtube videos to help with this). Once that is set up, you could literally just set up 8 (1 for each mirrored advanced class) or 16 different keymaps. Then when you create characters you only have to point them to the correct keymap. This is a little of an oversimplification, but it's really not that hard.
Good luck and keep us posted.
EDIT: You don't *have* to do 8 or 16. I'm just saying those would really only be the max you'd ever really need. When I started out, I had 4 of the same characters so I just had a "Sentinel" map. Then, I added a "Sage" map, etc...
i actually just started boxing this again this weekend.and it seemed like alot of fun.been streaming my lvl progresion making 4 marauders.
Do you guys play as FTP or as subscriber? Thinking of boxing this again but is it worth playing as ftp?
I started boxing 4 sages last weekend on Red Eclipse EU - I've moved all my accounts up to sub status apart from 1. There's some pretty annoying limitations on the F2P account - but possibly the worst is the lack of action bars. There's a high chance i'll activate the 4th account too, as buying all the things that are locked without it is more expensive than just getting a months sub and going preferred.
Must have been you i saw on coruscant then? :) i whispered you but you logged shortly after. Ya i know the limitations are a pain.. luckily all my acc are prefered status. But i would maybe pay just to lvl faster. Is 3 acc viable for flashpoints having a companion as a filler?
Ha yeh it may well have been. I occasionally miss whispers! Had a few folk get quite livid that I was botting because I didn't spot it right away. Sorry I missed you, my main is Cloeia
In my experience so far some of the Heroic 4s and bosses will either require some strategy or a different composition get the most out of.
I tried Esseles early on with 4 sages and it didnt work out two well. I also struggled with Trouble In Deed (4H) on Coruscant but things should be better if I can get the roll over healing thing working.
I'm also likely to set up a jedi knight and have a tank in one slot and sages on the rest.
Whether I could get away with 3 and a companion I dunno. Maybe, if they were well kitted out perhaps.
You can probably get away with 3 + a companion. Three sages + a tank would probably work. Two dedicated DPS sages + a dedicated healer and you should be fine. I'm probably just going to go 2 characters. I really wish they would un-nerf tank companions however. At the end of beta people complained that tank companions statistically could tank as well as a player, so the companions tank stance buff got nerfed into the ground. Now tank companions will never approach the statistical mitigation potential of a player, and they are dumb to boot!
If I wanted to follow probably the most simple play style for doing flashpoints and then later hardmode flashpoints, this is what I'd do.
I'd 2 box sorc's (or maybe operatives) and get one of them the HK companion. Run 1 as DPS and 1 as a healer and use HK as DPS and the tank companion to tank. I've seen videos of people duoing hardmode flashpoints with tank companion + healer companion with a sage DPS'r and a commando healer.
Double Assassin/Shadow with 2x healer companions would probably also work a treat. One tanks one DPS's. There is a lot of new stuff added to the game that I'm not familiar with either. I'm reading about some sort of bolster system in flashpoints where your characters (and presumably companions) get buffed up to an optimal baseline stat.
I'm leaning towards assassins myself, I've got marauders and sentinels which I adore, but I aim to try and 2 man stuff and I don't think the tank/healer companion combo will get it done! In fact I'd probably be better off for some of the flashpoints going 2x healers with the marauders and tanking via cooldowns ;p
I think I just have to mature my ISBoxer set up a bit.. different class comps means really working on a more complex key bindings setup.
My sages are catching up to my lower sentinel now, so I can probably just drop that toon in to my set up and work on moving on from there.
To be honest I haven't even really worked out how the target and assist stuff works - it just is and that's been good enough for me!
I started looking at Chazz's Click healing guide but I got a bit lost.
Also still thinking I should put in a trooper and smuggler so I can see all the class quests.
The easiest way to do different classes is to either adapt their rotation to your existing DPS macro, or create character sets. Let's say your spam dps hotkey is R. R no longer sends Ctrl F1-F7, instead it sends "Sage DPS 1" to your sage and "Commando DPS 1" to your command then you have whatever keybinds you want inside the specific sage and command dps hotkeys. This setup allows you to do nifty stuff like run a DPS train and run a healer. If you remove the assist component from your DPS characters spam hotkey, you can set them on the target you want and start spamming away without interfering with their targeting. Freeing you up to play the healer more manually.
Well i can't decide if to go Republic or Empire
I intend to try and do all 8 classes this time. Think I can do it boxing. I also have a guild set up on the Rep side called Seventh Son (with reference to 7th son of a 7th son) it only has the benefit of the base 5% xp bonus but something is better than nothing. You're more than welcome to join me.
Also thanks Merc, I'll have a look and see if I can figure all that out this weekend!
Where are you all playing one server or scattered to the winds.?
I'm on Red Eclipse EU - although I have somewhat limited play time. I expect to have a full weekend session this weekend but that'll be about it apart from the occasional evening over the next few weeks.
I also play on Red Eclipse EU.. Playing Sith right now. but have republic chars aswell
I'm actually gonna try multiclass for my republi guys
Shadow Tank
2 Sage dps or healing
Trooper dps or healing
Might work :)
I'd prob stay away from commando as your DPS. Their optimal DPS rotation managing ammo (or heat if imp) is probably the most difficult rotation in the game.
My Imperials are on The Bastion where I intend to play. My Republic chars with ALL my resources are on a different server though. Forget the name.
I'm only playing 3 acc atm (paying for 3) so ill prolly go 1 dps sage and one healing sage. and have one companion as dps. Hope it's sufficient :)
I'm a little bit bummed they raised the level cap.
Back at launch my guild was able to clear all the 16 man content on nightmare and there was a bug I discovered with Karaggas palace where you could reset the instance walk in and loot a treasure chest over and over again.
As such my accounts have all of their cargo bays purchased and full 95% with columni tier and rakata tier mods and weapons. Now that stuff is all basically useless :(
