Hi all I have tons of questions!
I've played wow for 6 years or so and I do like it, but space games have always been my favorite. My only issue is I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around eve. So first set of questions.
Group comp? Heals dps tanks? Do those exist?
instances?
Group quests?
i have more but I have to go back to work.

There are no instances like dungeons in WoW. There are thing sort of like it, but there more akin to open world dungeons.
Missions are generally taken by each member who can grab one, each members has to complete them. There are ways to split the rewards and reputation across the group, but the Faction rep usually only goes to the person who turns in the mission.
There is a lot more to this game, even with my 7+ years of experience i still learn something new on a day to day basis. Knowledge i had years ago means nothing to the game now, as the game evolves patch after patch.

Go read this pdf. Some of it may be out of date but it's the tome of eve online. The game is amazing. I left wow when the /follow removal happened. Eve online is a sandbox game. The game evolves based on what you want to do. The learning curve is huge but that's what keeps me wanting more. The best thing about the game is you can pay for it with in game money. I started with one account then went to 3. After learned more about the game I went to 5. Now I have 11 and I am on my way to become a rich industrialist. I live in Null sec and run 11 accounts mining ore. Give the game a try.

with that said. eve has corporations or "guilds" that are dedicated to teaching new players how to play the game. its that kind of game. if you enjoy the challenge of learning a new game that has many concepts and a true sandbox mmo, then i highly recommend this game to you. if youre looking for a game where you can just lolololmultiboxlightningboltpwned! spam your way through the game, then this really isnt the game for you.
boxing in eve is pretty common, maybe not the way that we box here, but its super common for people to run 2 or 3 accounts on a regular basis.

lastly expect it to take time to learn this game. its really difficult. the game has been out for 10 years and ccp has kept from dumbing down the game to cater to the casuals like other mmos. ccp maintains their "mostly" hardcore sandbox stance.

Ive be read about buying game time with in game currency. Is that possible within the first 21 days?
anything is possible but its pretty hard.
once you make your first 100m, its pretty easy rollin though. i took my first 100m and went to the market and just doubled up every couple days. i did end up spending more sp into trading than i wanted to that early though but it was worth it i guess haha. took me a month before i made my first billion

Join them. Take a few classes with them (teamspeak and live in game). Learn the cuts and ropes of EVE with them.
It is possible if you know exactly what you are doing but dont count on that if you are new to the game. Expect to pay for 1-3 month in RL currency to get your business rolling first.Quote:

Would 10x pi and mining in the side be profitable?
You need several weeks to train into the required skills to make it somewhat profitable. And even on capped skills - if you stick to the safety of empire systems mining is probably the lowest income isk/hour wise.Quote:

i tried to do PI on 6 accounts while mining hisec in the beginning. dedicated a whole bunch of time training for it. the problem i had was that the logistics of moving all the goods was a pain in the ass and not worth it doing it on 6 accounts. imo anyway
as for mining hisec, unless you can get an entire system to yourself its really not worth it to multibox it. 1 nullsec belt has more ore than some entire hisec systems.
Hey guys, I have a question regarding mining that I hope you can help me with. I've been playing just over a week, and am still learning the ropes. I have spent some time mining a bit, and I've noticed something that confuses me, especially given the comments here, which I've also see echoed elsewhere. And that's about mining being more profitable in lower sec space (assuming the harder to get ores). What confuses me is, that as the ores get rarer, and more valuable, they also get bigger in unit size. Since the mining lasers work on a total volume per pass, it doesn't seem like mining rarer ores actually generates more income (or at least, not THAT much more). Now, I'm obviously not talking about Mercoxit here, but among the 8 or so most common ores, it seems the range of value, in similar time periods, is within about a 50% window, and looking at the ores that come after that, it's still right in that same ballpark.
So what am I missing that makes mining the rarer ores that much more profitable?

The rare ores are more valuable because you get more/better minerals per m3 out of them when you refine them.Quote:

Not over complicating anything. And thanks for the awesome chart! That quantifies what I had started to notice, so it does prove my point. In the last column you see ISK/hour. And it doesn't necessarily go up as you go to rarer ores. The second one (Scordite) make you more ISK/hour than the next four (Plagioclase, Pyroxeres, Omber, and Kernite). And Scordite can be found in 1.0, the others usually can't.
Also notice that the worst to the best is not even a factor of two (in ISK/hour).
So all I was asking is, is it really better income to move to the rarer ores, which is what you see in every guide there is. It didn't seem that much of an advantage to me, and the chart proves it.

The thing is, you're going to have a harder time mining only scordite in hisec because there will be less spawns, and more people competing for the ore. My hisec mining experience is minimal, but I don't doubt that miners there cherry pick the scordite from the start. Its better to mine in null because you get higher concentrations of the valuable ore, and you don't have to compete for the ore. I don't mind going in to further detail if you'd like.
While that's all true, I've been playing a week and a half, so that's not possible right now. For now, I mine a bit in hisec, and was just wondering how much more I'd make searching for the "better" hisec ores. You can imagine my surprise when I found out that it was hard to do much better than Scordite.
For now, I've found a nice 0.7 system that has little traffic, and lots of asteroid fields with the easiest 4 ores, and a rare occurence of next one (kernite? No Omber in Caldari space, from what I've read). And it seems that the others in the system go for the Plagioclase and Pyroxenes, leaving the Scordite for me :) And there are plenty of the better varieties (the +5% and +10% kinds). And at this point, it doesn't take much to keep me mining, since my 5000 m3 ore hold takes about 15 minutes to fill.
I'm on the last skill needed before qualifying for a Retriever (well, Mining Barge I will still be needed, but that takes less than an hour). Once that happens, I'll see where else I can get to, to get to the really good ores. I may hit you up for some advice once I'm ready to look into null sec :)
