A few quirks w/ Rift and Keyclone

So, I just started boxing again after a pretty long hiatus. I'm using Keyclone since I bought that way back and am familiar with it. I'm running into a few silly things and I'm not entirely sure what to do or if it's just part of the way Rift is different from WoW.

1 - The launcher. I have 2 separate installs of Rift, 1 on my main drive and 1 on a different drive. In WoW, all the settings are separate for these, but in Rift it doesn't seem like it. When I open the launcher for any of them, it has the last username I logged in with, regardless of if I used the same shortcut.

2 - The game itself, similar to above. The game doesn't seem to hold several settings properly, such as resolution and windowed / maximized.

3 - Crashing w/o any error. I have my WASD and Q E keys unbound on my slave accounts so that I don't break follow or randomly run off by accident, so I normally use my mouse to make them run. It worked fine for a few days, but now if I use right+left click to move, it just closes out like an alt+f4 or something, no prompts, just gone.

This is mentioned in numerous other recent threads and the reason is unknown. Other users have moved on to HKN or ISBoxer.

Ah. I'd looked through a couple of threads to page 3 or so and saw a few scattered things, but nothing really concrete. I'm very stubborn when it comes to change, but I guess I should probably move over to one of those.

Ya, Keyclone + Rift = ain't gonna happen without an update to Keyclone.

As for settings, Rift is loading them from user/Appdata/Roaming/RIFT, that's why 2 different installs won't help.

I've actually been using keyclone, it's worked pretty well for me. A couple of quirks and differences from WoW, but, hey, if you multibox you get used to dealing with quirks. Some of the functionality of the macro system is actually an improvement over WoW.

The launcher, I'm not using, I didn't want to bother figuring out how it do it, basically, with the Rift launcher and all. I start each Rift window, logging in through their launcher, then manually adding to keyclone using the add button on keyclone and clicking the Rift window to add. I would think that would preserve the start up settings if you have different installs.

The only crashes I'm seeing are Rift ones, usually while teleporting, getting the send the Rift error report message. I'm using the movement keys on all my characters, but set to DNP on keyclone. Using both mouse keys seems to work fine for movement for me.

I'm using three pretty different computers also. I'm using only keyclone and keyboard / mouse sharing software to play. I've played to level 40 so far. So I think it's safe to say there's no basic incompatibility between Rift - Keyclone - and various hardware and software.

I'd give a shot at manually launching and manually adding to keyclone, see if that helps.

I'm seeing some occasional rift crashes myself, using isboxer, but throwing rift errors. Maybe one crash per ten hours with my team ? In general its just a little more buggy than wow I think.

I've never used the Keyclone launcher, and didn't really change any settings either. Rift crashes left and right on 2 comps here. Switching to HKN = zero crashes.

Interesting. My theory is use whatever works and forget about it. There's a lot of things that can cause conflicts on computers, but in my experience Rift / Keyclone isn't automatically one of them. Chasing down the cause is work though, so if something else works, that's good.

My main issue so far has been in mouse sharing software between machines. I've always used Input Director myself, but with Rift for whatever reason slaves on one of my machines start running automatically when I switch to them. Synergy doesn't do that, but I have a problem with "spinning" when I click and drag on a window. I've found another one called "Mouse without Borders" which I'd never heard of, but I've been using it for a couple of days with no problems yet.

I must be lucky - 80+ hours into Rift and no crashes at all, 5-boxing with ISBoxer.

Well, that blows. Any workaround for that?

Thanks for the other responses as well, guys! I think I'll probably just stick w/ Keyclone for now, but was really looking for an answer on the settings stuff.

Also, I don't use Keyclone for launching anything, I was just talking about the Rift launcher.

Perhaps you could have different settings files backed up somewhere and just copy them to the Rift Appdata folder just before launching?
