A 6th miner wont hurt at this point and when i decide to mission again I am hoping to use her as a dedicated salvager, we will see.

Hahah. I was considering doing 10 but... for what im doing at the moment (high sec mining).. i think 10 would be too crowded in these lame belts.
Whenever i get the urge to do missions I was planning (with my 6) to try and run 2 missions at once... so basically 2 groupings of 3.
The 7th wont upset that but i am hoping I can have her pimp out a salvager / hauler and fly around dedicated to doing that and then wanting to salvage wont force my hand into flying golems =D
We will see how it turns out.

How much are you making per hour per toon in hisec mining? I've got 4 brand new accounts as dedicated mining alts. We moved to nullsec and got some sov so I'm starting a mining operation there with some toons while I rat/scout/anom/salvage with some others. Got my Rorqual parked out there waiting to get everything lined up. Still only doing 8 PI (in lowsec), but I'm gonna move all of that out to nullsec and go up to probably 12+ toons doing PI.
I couldnt give you a good number isk / hr but nothing to get too excited about... seems like if i watch an hour and a half movie on netflix i might make 50m or so a night. But thats just my random recollection, no hard data.
I mined out of a hacking site last night in Null (the grav sites in system had been stripped of ABC already) with 4 ventures, a procurer, and a hauler for a few hours. I'll have the alts in procurers on Monday. Near as I can tell then procurer I'm using is pulling in 480k in ore per 3 minutes, so x20 = 1 hour is about 9ish mil per hour, and some of the roids down here are worth more than that. My current plan is to have the procurers be able to tank the nullsec rats (at least long enough to get my ratter/logi to them) while I rat with a non-turret ship (amarr space...target disrupting rats suck for my abaddon, so maybe a raven) and a T1 shield logi and a Rorq boosting from our corp POS. Hauling is my biggest problem at the moment, so I may bring in one of my PI toons from lowsec on my 9th account to haul as I REALLY don't wanna move the Rorqual out of the POS except to park. I need to get the industry index of our system up so we can put some indy mods up to spawn grav sites which will be much better mining. So if I can be doing trading, PI, mining, AND ratting all at the same time = win :D
I used to be a hardcore miner/indy-guy 2years ago. I'd run ops of 11+ barges etc etc in nullsec. I can tell you that anything other than deep nullsec mining where you're not constantly swapping roids is a waste of time. Mission running will ALWAYS net you more for your resources unless you're doing industrial with your resources.Quote:

General rule of thumb:
-Take one mining barge with "Average" expected skill & equipment that you plan to put on your other toons. Have him mine for one cycle. Calculate the "BEST" possible income of ore per minute, then per 10minutes, and then per hour since you know the cycle time & ore income per cycle.
This will allow you, using math, to easily scale your operation based on average income of one character mining. The "BEST" possible number will give you a "Heightmap" to know where it is POSSIBLE to go but is generally impossible since you'll end up dealing with ore transfer, asteroid deaths (causing you to change targets) etc etc. You also have to factor in how many toons you're managing at the same time which has a dramatic effect on your ability to stay efficient with mining barges past 3 toons ESPECIALLY if you're doing low-sec mining operations which generally have horrible asteroids so you'll be having a high maintenance per toon to keep them all mining.
At the end of the day if you're not doing deep nullsec stuff with an ore-sale contract to the alliance your renting/borrowing space from you won't be making anything near what missions can while multiboxing.
This is something that has always gotten under my skin in terms of EvE because running missions is blatantly superior to mining in even high-sec that there is fewer and fewer miners each month.
TLDR; Do NOT invest into mining while multiboxing in anything except deep-deep nullsec, and you should probably be producing something or have a sell contract with an alliance in the area or you're wasting your time.

ps: Unless CCP has made resources mined faster than 2yrs ago by like 3x using mining barges I highly doubt you'll be making more than 9mill per barge per hour. Meaning you'd need 10 strip mining bardges to even touch 90mill/hr.
Thanks for the info Brax. I am in nullsec with the big roids, but you are correct in stating that missions are the most profitable isk/hour that I've seen in EVE.
I hammered level 4's to the tune of billions a month when I first came back and frankly got sick sick sick of it. I tried nullsec anoms as a comparison of isk/hour to the missions and I could do better with the missions. The downside of that is your toons are stuck in hisec and getting quickly into PVP mode isn't really possible. We PVP quite often and I use different toons for that, so sticking just a main down there isn't an option (that and I dual-box with a logi pilot quite often in gangs, so thats half my logi team for missions gone). When I decided to go live in lowsec for PVP I started doing PI and trading to supplement my lost income from missions, so starting up mining/ratting/anoms is extra money on top of that (which currently plexes 2 accounts a month and pays for all my new shinies like the Rorqual).
What to do with the ore is another question, but if need be I'll jump it back to lowsec and go freighter it back up for refining/selling with my trader toon. I have a feeling my corp is going to want to buy it to do some manufacturing here, but I haven't officially discussed it yet. I have access to people with jump freighters, carriers, and my rorqual though, so it'll get handled.
In terms of isk/hour I'm shooting for 9mil per toon and raising the industry index for grav sites atm. I'm ok with that as I can semi-afk mine for hours during the day and then PVP or do more active stuff at night. I'm on the computer a lot at work and at home :) If I can mine for 4ish hours a day at 9mil a toon for 4 days a week with no other income that's around 2.8 billion a month which would plex the 4 new mining accounts with some leftover. Already got them setup for PI also, so assuming I stick with the mining and those new accounts I can have around 20 toons doing PI which will generate another 3bil or so a month. I hope to be able to plex 6 of the accounts and pay for 3, so 550mil x 6 = 3.3bil a month in plex which leaves me with a nice profit (even ignoring trading/ratting/anoms). Moon mining is also an option, though we don't have access to great moons where I'm at. Either way I have about a month and a half to test out the mining and see if its worth sticking with.

pre-nerf before I took a break incursions would give 100mill/hr per person in the gang. I'm told it is down to 50 or 60 per person per hour, but that would be 360 or 420mill with a 6/7 box ;).

Even if I cannot do incursions I'll probably end up spamming missions for LP & quick kill isk to get money saved up for nullsec adventures again. At that point I'll probably turn LFC (looking for corp) :D.
Will pop back in here for a second. I am with you Brax on being annoyed that missions are so superior to mining in terms of isk / hr... An old buddy of mine used to always say that it had to do both with the risk involved as well as the skill requirements to get good at it that resulted in more money for missions... thats a discussion for another place =D
I do know that mining is far inferior to missions but I do like the fact that I can make decent money without thinking too much and I am one of those sick people who actually enjoy mining =D Its soothingly mindless. As long as I dont run into any of those crazy hulk ganker people then i am good to go.
Even when I get to missioning it will be nice to know that mining is available as a backup.
If I ever end up back in hisec I'll definitely hit missions again, but when in Rome make money as the Romans do.
I am working with x5 retrievers (x20 mining drones, x5 hobbies) and I do ok however switching roids is a chore - FX makes that better. My corp is stuck to the hisec areas so I dont venture out from there.
