I am glad I left myself in a fairly good spot this time. These are all decent at both mining and missioning.
I need to reorient myself, looking around it looks like there has been some significant changes to both mining and missioning so I have to see if what I was doing is still viable.
I'm playing 5. I see a random in the dual-boxing.com chat channel once in awhile, but overall I would call it pretty quiet community-wise. Doing level 4's in 2 nightmares/2 basilisks/noctis and I'm looking at a new level 5 setup (all T3 cruisers) and a lowsec pvp setup (harbingers) now that I'm using isboxer video feeds. Kicking myself for missing the factional warfare isk faucet that recently got patched, but oh well. Still making enough doing level 4's to plex all 5 accounts, even at 600mil a piece, but it requires a lot of time and precise agent location (I do 5 agents within 4 jumps of each other on 3 different guys....currently running 9 different versions of 'Enemies Abound').
I keep seeing reference to new AI... I was running 5 drakes for a while.. and then working on upgrading to tengus / golems for L4s. Anything gonna cause me an issue there? All my ships run their own tank so theoretically it shouldnt matter who is taking fire.
On the mining front it looks like either hulks got nerfed or covetors bumped... maybe i will just fly covetors, 1/5 the cost (or was at least).
Tengu's and Drake's main missile system (heavy missile launcher) is getting a dps nerf. Golem torp's are getting a little buff. Assault missiles are getting a buff (drakes will probably go with these for small scale pvp and stick to HML for blobs). All of the mining barges were redone to fit into one of three roles (tanked/big ore bay/best yield). Mackinaws are now the "go to" barge for everything (they have the big ore hold for the T2 barges). Retrievers are the T1 version of Mack's and both have a huge ore bay. Ice mining isn't worth doing unless in mass with all the possible boosts you can think of.
I wonder if there is a new king to be crowned with the apparent Caldari nerfing going on.
I am up to try anything other than drones... My main char has max level drone skills and I eventually wrote them off before even boxing the game due to the inconveniences.
Drones are a pain, I agree. I usually don't put them out on more than one or two guys at a time due to spawns targeting them, but they are required for killing frigates closer than 20km where my Nightmares can't kill them. Hurricane is getting nerfed a bit too, so it's not just Caldari.
Drones arnt bad if you go the ishtar / vexor / domi route. Tank the ship crap out sentrys and have them assist your primary pilot very low interaction and huge dps boost to your primary ship. You can also do a spider tank domi build with a ishtar for strong tanking high dps if you want to go the drone route. Personaly ill stick to my 5x tengu just going to hams instead of hmls.

I need to read up... if I recall correctly, HAMs were more damage but shorter range, eh?
HAM's are shorter range, better against small targets. More in your face play instead of sit back and spew missiles. Turn on your AB on all your guys and hit 'regroup' on your FC's fleet hud and all your guys will orbit you at 2500. You 'steer' with the one guy and the others try to keep up with him (like an incursion anchor essentially) and pound crap with missiles at short range. I'd like to do this with my harbingers, but I think I'm going to hose up my transversal badly if I do...missiles should work fine though.
When did that go in? Did I just miss it when I was playing? Would have made things a hell of a lot easier on fleet management. :PQuote:

Redbeard, if you hit the corp tab ingame and go to recruitment you can search for corps that are recruiting based on timezone, casual/hardcore, what you want to do, etc. I'm sure people still post corp recruitment on the forums too though.
That is exactly how I control my ratters. In order to use regroup you must be in a fleet, wing, or squad leader posistion. If you are in this position then in the uper left corner of your fleet window you will see.3 horizontal lines stacked together ( there small) right click this and regroup. Everyone in your squad, wing, fleet depending on your leadership posistion will approach you and orbit at 2500. Hopping for a shortcut (horney) for this feature.
I am pretty busy with work, I just took a new position within my same company, and I also have a 3 month old baby so I am taking things pretty slow. Hoping to get things better setup over the thanksgiving holiday.
Right now I have 2 tengus, a drake, a vulture and a raven. Looks like last time i was playing I cashed out my mining operation, so I am planning on setting up a mining operation first, getting my video feeds etc going again and getting back into the swing of the game. Then I will look to L4s again, which is where the real money is.
Is jetcan mining dead? My main (who has like 72m SP) is actually a maxed orca pilot but ive never flown one... I just looked up prices and they're like 600m ISK so thats going to be a bit before I can swing that.
Jetcan mining is pretty dead with the huge ore holds barges have now (retriever and macks). If anything the problem remains the roids popping too quick everywhere but nullsec. Barges just dump directly from their hold to the orca and the orca pilot moves the ore around and runs it back to the station when full.

Are orcas susceptible to ganks? I know pretty much anything can be ganked if you have enough fire power, i just mean in general like a hulk etc.
I just purchased 4 covetors and 1 iteron mk 5 to get my op started again. A lot of T1 stuff for now as I get back into the swing of things. I also decided that I want to train all my dudes to be perfect miners.. my main is already there, and my first alt (that i had before 5 boxing) is close...
Will spend my time mining figuring out what I want to do for my mission setup. Not sure if I will stick wtih the caldari missile stuff or go a different route.
Tornado volley is so high that anything can be ganked if someone is willing to take the loss to do so. That being said, no one is gonna gank an Orca full of ore (not worth it) and if you have expensive stuff you are moving you can put it in the unscannable corp hangar which is going to be changed to a scannable hangar come Dec. 4th.

Apparently you can do some decent numbers with a Rokh using deep core miners which still use crystals and get you a 180s cycle.
Havent looked at numbers / etc since them changing the barges around.
I BS mined back in the day, but I'd have to see real numbers to believe that BS's are nearly as good as barges are now (ANY of the barges)
Am up to an orca, a hulk and 3 covetors at this point woot.
Almost have enough money for the 2nd hulk.

The Two Week Hero: Tornado Edition
With Crucible came the introduction of the fantastic Tier 3 Battlecruisers: the Naga, Oracle, Talos and Tornado.
While all of them pack a fearsome punch in the form of Battleship Sized Guns, only one is the preferred hull of the BC-Ganker.
That, of course, is the Minmatar’s Tornado. Fit with devastating battleship sized artillery, it can deliver (depending on skills of course) alpha strikes of 10,000 damage or more.
As with the Thrasher hero, the Tornado hero will require a set of +3s (minus the Charisma implant), a spare character slot, two weeks of training time, and some help from your friends (if you want it).

The Disco-phoon or smartbombing battleship
One of the most annoying things a miner can do is team up with an Orca fit with Remote Shield Transporters.
More than one gank has gone wrong because the gankers didn’t count on that Orca being able to repair at least some of the damage being put out on the target Exhumer.
However, there is always an upside! Often, Orcas will attract other little guppies, all clustered around the Mommy Miner for protection.
Should you encounter 3 or more Exhumers (mainly Mackinaws, for their weaker tanks), do not despair!
Instead, go buy yourself a Typhoon (or other appropriate battleship) and have some fun with them!

The Tactic:
Get a solid warp-in to the Orca in question, land right next to Mommy Miner, and activate all your bombs at once.
Do not use your Cap Boosters right away - you don’t need them yet.
By the time your second volley of smartbombs has detonated, not only will the miners around you be feeling the pain - you will too.
CONCORD and the Faction Navy will be on you like white on rice, busy doing all sorts of nasty things (hence the tank mods in the lows).
In order to get off the third (and possibly fourth!) rounds of smartbombs, you will need to use your Cap Boosters.
One of the many dastardly things that CONCORD does to you upon spawning is to neut the ever-living bejesus out of you.
You will be at zero cap. Once that happens, shortly before the third cycle of your smartbombs, smash two of your Cap Booster modules. This will give you the juice to fire off your full rack of smartbombs.
The reason a Typhoon is the ideal ship is that they can fit two sets of two cap boosters, meaning that if your tank can hold on through the onslaught of the police, you will be able to fire off a fourth round of smartbombs.
Typically, a Mackinaw will be destroyed on the third round of smartbombing.
However, if you want to make sure no one escapes your devastation (or you want to catch pods napping), the fourth is essential.
Ganking For Outlaws
As alluded to previously, one of the most important aspects of suicide ganking is gathering intel on your target. Often disregarded (leading to many tragically wasted destroyers), performing a quick ship scan can mean the difference between ISK for all, and a laugh from the terrible person mining merrily away in the belt, surrounded by your wrecks.
As a baseline, the following chart uses a 0.5 system (with slow CONCORD response times) as an example:

Bandwith wise I really feel like I could be playing more accounts, I am kind of tempted to sub up a few more. Eve makes it especially easy since there are no expacs to buy.

I have 2 characters that are older than my other 3... the first is my main and he has like 73m SP. The second is my first alt before i was way into boxing.. he was like 35m. Plan is to split into 2 groups of 3 when I get to missions. Hopefully I can manage that.
And one more for the mining op is just gravy.
Now i have to train another newb OY. =D
I've been running anomalies in nullsec. Not sure if they are "better" isk-wise than level 4's when I run strictly "tag" missions, but you can definitely get into a better groove on them.
Ships are more but it seems like I am making quite a bit more mining now too so at least they have risen together.
Last time I scrapped my mining op and sold off my stuff to afford the missioning equipment. Will do it better this time and make enough to leave the mining operation in tact, even if im not using it, and then buy my second set of ships on top of it
The Anoms in Null may not generate "as-much" as they use to due to the true-sec changes a year ago, but they should still more then chain farming level 4s, its really all about how you chain farm anoms really.Quote:

I used to run 5 carriers and 2 tengus to when i farmed Nullsec i would usually fly my 1 to 2 carriers into a sanctum or a haven start it, tengus would fly in and make it faster along with my other carriers, then by the time i was on the last spawn wave or 2 i would fly half the carriers to the next anom this usually generated 150 to 200mil a hour if you can get an unconstested area.

My isk per hour for level 4's went down when I put my main in a anti-pirate corp and moved him out to lowsec, but I'm having more fun in the game pvp'ing and jumpbridge hotdropping pirates so it's worth it. I've got all day to do anoms while I wait before I can jumpclone back to hisec, so more time to decide what I like (or just flip flop to keep things interesting).
Yeah pvp is definitely, for most, a hit to ISK generation.. but fun > isk so, sounds like a good choice =D
Right now I am trying to decide what my 3 man mission setup will be. I want to salvage, even if its slower... so likely a golem will be involved. I was thinking maybe 1 gang nighthawk or tengu to focus on small ships and help with survivability a bit and 2 golems to focus on big ships without having to worry about the small guys.
Thats what i was training towards anyways.
