Hi, im thinking about 10 boxing wow and im not sure what kind of computer i would need.
I can only use one computer.

I currently have a i7
And a nvidia evga gtx 560 ti.
8gb of ram.

Im wondering what i should be looking at, to upgrade in order to do this flawlesly

Aswell i was multiboxing a few months ago and im not shure what the best software currently is.
Is isboxer still top tier software for multiboxing.

I also want to have a extra account open at the ah so that would make 11 accounts. Though that window could be minimized etc.

Ok first of all, you need more Ram.
But if i were you i would have bought more ram and a second computer.
To completly flawless, maybe your computer can runt it properly as it is, but i say that you can and propably might get some lagg in the big citys.

I have a similar setup and when I 10 box I have to drop the slaves to 20fps and master to 40 to not get ugly lag in video rendering. I will probably be buying a new computer when the next intel lineup comes out.

I was guessing upgrading my video card and ram was a must.

But since sli isnt enabled for multiboxing im not sure what to do.
Or am i wrong.I remember reading on isboxer the sli as in double video cards was disabled.

So im not sure where i should be heading.

There is a nice forum thread on how much video ram does for you, big thread buy is boxing moderate tp huge amounts of characters. The video ram per account is pretty well worked out.

You should be able to run perfmon while running five copies of the game today and see where you are for resources there. If your motherboard maxes out at 12gb or something small, you have a lot of work cut out for you but its not undoable.

In general, you want enough ram to have 1GB (for the operating system) plus 1GB per character being played.
If you don't have enough ram for this, it is the cheapest upgrade to improve performance.
Without enough ram, you might be able to launch the toons but performance will suck.
You'll need a 64-bit version of window, to be able to use more than 3.2GB (approximately) of total system ram (Ram + Video + Sound memory).

Once you have enough ram, the cheapest upgrade you can do is getting an SSD for the gaming folder.
Not sure if you have one of these or not, based on the limited specs you listed for your system.
For a gaming folder a 64GB lower end SSD is fine; you only need a higher end model if you're putting your OS on it too.

In general, 1GB of video ram (on DX9) is good to run 5 characters or 1.5GB (on DX11).
Again, not having enough video ram might not prevent you from playing, but it will negatively impact your play.
If you upgrade your video card, the double cards (two cards, on one physical card) generally suck for boxing (580 is better than a 590).
The best bang for your buck, is the GTX 670, but it isn't necessarily cheap.

What kind of an i7 do you have?
People have 10-boxed on an i7-920 in the past.
A generation 2 i7, such as an i7-2600K is a much stronger processor.

I do not have a ssd.
I do however have windows 7 64 bit.
And i am running dx 11 so im guessing. 11x 1.5 = 16.5 GB ram.
I do also have the i7 2600k

So i see, so im looking at getting a gtx 670 then i guess.
Also i thought ssd only impacted loading speeds etc.?Im guessing i was wrong.
So im looking at a hell of a big investment i guess to be able to multibox on one computer.Its what i expected.But is the SSD totally necessary?

Its a evga gtx 670 FTW model. Im unsure of witch i should be heading for since so many subcompanies buy them and overclock them etc.

As to ram.Im guessing buying 32 Gigs of Ram would be the best since i want to have open IE etc.

So something like that but specific for my motherboard/cpu .

Would something around that area be capable of running 11 wow copies. Obviously main on mediocre settings and other ones at low.
Plus IE videos like music etc.

Im also running watercooling so im guessing thats a plus .

I have evga and I like their products.

I'd suggest 1GB for the operating system, plus 1GB per account.
For ten boxing, I'd recommend 11GB or more, purely for Warcraft.

Ram is pretty cheap, 16GB would be plenty but 32GB or 64GB gets you extra if you want to mess around with ramdrives or whatever.




With DX9, a 2GB card is pretty close.
If you can get a card with more ram, that gets you some headroom.

If you want DX11, I'd recommend at least 3GB of video ram.

It will depend on your settings, too.
I don't think anyone is going to run 10 accounts on ultra.




The SSD is not essential, but you can pick one up fairly cheaply.
You don't need anything fancy, for a gaming folder; only if you were putting your OS on it.

It is optional, you don't need one.
It's just once you have enough ram, nothing else gets you as much of a return on investment.
It will make loading textures much quicker, which will greatly impact your play in main cities and to a lesser degree in places like Tol Barad/Wintergrasp.

Im also curious is there a better graphic card then the 670 that isnt like 200 dollars more then that one ?.

Oh nice, yea seems worth it for that extra ram.

12gb minimum in your system. any less and you will be strapped for RAM.

I also consider an SSD mandatory for that many clients. If not, you'll lag as shitstorm when you have to load everything 10 times (unless you've got a nice RAID)

Also, what do you hope to accomplish with 10 that couldn't be done with 5?

Windows 7, Home Premium 64-bit.
850 Watt Corsair PSU.
i7-2600K (overclocked to 4.5GHz on air) [Corsair A70 cooler]
Asus P8Z68-V Pro motherboard, version 1.0
8GB of Mushkin DDR3, 1600MHz ram.
An eVGA GTX 570, 1GB.
OS Drive: OCZ Vertex 3, 120GB SSD.
Gaming Drive: Patriot Torq, 64GB SSD.

In anticipation of an increase in the minimum requirements, and a corresponding increase in requirements for "smooth with medium settings", I upgraded my system over the summer.

Going from an i7-2600K (4 Physical Cores/4 Logical Cores) system to an i7-3930K (6 Physical Cores/6 Logical Cores) was purely because I could... and would like to ten box at some point this expansion.
Quite a few people have 10-boxed on the i7-2600K in Cataclysm, and I believe on the i7-920/930 in WotLK.
I think the enjoyment will be higher on the 3930K, but that the 2600K would have worked.

The ram needed to increase from 8GB.
The video card needed more than 1GB of ram.

The rest of the system, likely would have worked.





Anyway, with a goal of 10-boxing, I went with:

Windows 7, Professional 64-bit.
1050 Watt Corsair PSU.
i7-3930K (stock speed, will likely overclock to ~4.0-4.5GHz) [Noctua NH-D14 cooler]
Asus Sabertooth X79 motherboard.
32GB of Corsair Vengeance (Low Profile), DDR3 1600MHz CL8 ram.
An eVGA GTX 670, 4GB Superclocked.
OS/Gaming Drive: 2x OCZ Vertex 3, 120GB's SSD (so approximately 240GB's), in Raid 0.

So far, I can 5-box smoothly at stock speed on Ultra settings, across the board.
There is no system lag anywhere.

Haven't tried more than 5 accounts yet.
Will likely use medium settings (except maximum view distance) on the main, maybe a little higher if everything else is smooth.
And then lower settings on the other regions, as low as I can go without greatly impacting the instant swap speed (which slows, as a greater number of settings need to change).

Not sure on what systems people are using to 10-box with.
But that can give you an idea of the direction I went; you could check the hardware forum to see what other people have gone with.

hm Ualaa I wonder how much have the hex core CPU helped in terms of the improvement you get. 570 GTX to 670 GTX probably didn't add much. My CPU is 3 generations behind now. And for new toons that I setup, it always default to directX 11 and I keep forgetting to change it to DirectX9. 5 Boxing in directX 11 is causing constant blue screen and locking up for me for some reason. I am thinking about upgrading. But Ivy bridge still doesn't have a hex core yet.

DX11 is probably putting too much stress on your card and you're most likely running out of video RAM.

Consumer-level (non-extreme/xeon) Ivy Bridge will not have a 6-core chip nor will Haswell. It'll most likely be some time before we see the demand for a 6-core CPU from Intel that doesn't break the bank -- There's just no need for it in an everyday user/gamer environment.

The two bigger upgrades were... GTX 570 1GB to GTX 670 4GB.
And 4core/8threads to 6core/12threads, at about the same speed.
I also upgraded my internet today, but that wasn't a bottleneck; more for the combination of higher quality streaming + much faster downloads.

At the moment I'm running a physical core, and its logical core, per toon.
With the first core/logical core for windows, utorrent, firefox, xsplit and iTunes.

5 accounts, each on ultra, is smooth everywhere including Org.
That's with (the above programs open) including 14 firefox tabs and the xsplit stream.

Is there a reason why using separate cores for each toon help on some PCs and not on others? When I dedicated the cores per slot on my last PC, it was a performance gain, on my newest one its a loss.. i have to have every slot use every core.

I wanted each slot to have a core, and its corresponding logical core.

Once I switch to ten boxing, I'll need to experiment a bit.
a) Two games each, on one core and its logical core; everything else on the first core/logical core.
b) Ten games, on the last five cores/logical cores; everything else on the first core/logical core.
c) Everything on all cores/logical cores.

I've never messed with the cores, just close my eyes and hope IsBoxer does all that in the best way.
