how do people find them performing, thinking of coming back to Mboxing my shamans (will need to lvl my 5th to 85) :P
Depends on the scenario and if you are Elemental or not. I haven't done a 40 man BG yet, but I suspect Elementals might do a bit better with our AE buffs. However, with the buffs to melee in 4.3, I've seen some reports that casters are getting just wrecked by melee.
I think just sum it up to be "not enough bad players for us to stomp over". Losing give no conquest points, so most people just quit arena all together. + PVP gear not that attractive anymore since LFR is so easy. And ++ 5 v 5 is a dead bracket. Monday night in bloodlust battle group, I get an average 5min wait time for queue. and face the same teams over and over, arena just ain't what it used to be.
Ques on Ravencrest EU is allways around 1-3 min. And you might meet a team twice, but nothing more than that.
For a class that was already a zerg target by melee, we get owned even more by melee. Thx blizz for buffing pvp due to pve lacking, thx
Resurrecting this thread a bit.
I went 8 wins for 15 losses in 5s this week as 5 elementals. I am as geared as I can be from regular honor grind and fully gemmed up on my elementals, so most of my team is iLevel 388 and sitting around 4500 resil, 134K+ health. And I do get wrecked by melees. My biggest issues are probably rogues and feral druids that stealth up.
But considering I am still working my set up I am sitting at 787 rating and there are quite a few teams I think elementals can destroy with out losing a toon.
So I normally drop my totems and I am currently favoring 5 healstreams, 5 grounding, 1 earthbind, 1 stoneskin, 3 stoneclaw, 4 searing and a magma to start things off and get my buffs folling. After that I drop 5 x healing rains on my spot and by this time I generally have my first target in range that gets the full fury that an elemental shaman x 5 can put out in arena. Blood DKs, Hunters, Retadins, etc... will generally be almost instant killed on the first salvo... after the initial I will generally shift to a chainlightning spam if the enemy team is stupid enough to stand together. I have thunderstorm x 5 on roundrobin and same for temor totems. I will if I can drop another healing rain x (how ever many shammys are left) and go hunting.
I think I would probably do better with a healbot along for the ride but the 5 x healstreams are hitting me for nearly 800 HPs each tick and healing rain for 1500 HPs with the occassional crit. that adds up to quite a bit of heal power. So melee still wrecking us but we could be alot worse.
Smalltanker: thats awesome, btw i also i play 5x elemental shamans - question do you q up with all 5 people to do bg's? to get honor points? btw you go haste or mastery? I'm also working on 5x arcane mages team, I think it would totally own 5v5 arenas.
Also Small, what do you think about 5x Ench shamans in arenas?

The 40-man BG's (AV and IoC) are great to gear up in.
As a 5-man unit, you're only 12.5% of the entire team, which having in one place is not detrimental to your team.
Both of these are a PvE race to win, with incidental PvP going on.
If you're undergeared in the 15-man's (EotS or AB), that's 33% of the team in one place and probably not doing terribly well.
These can be won, once you have a decent level of pvp gearing.
The 10-man BG's are very hard to win as a 5-boxer; you have 50% of the team in one place always.
A 4-boxer has more success in the smaller BG's, as 4-toons can still blow people up and that lets the team be more flexible in where everyone goes.
I personally run AV almost exclusively, but will do IoC (on its weekend) if I'm gearing up, and if my team is geared will add (EotS & AB) on their weekend too.
I personally don't like SotA, nor the 10-man BG's; have never won one, as a 5-boxer.

As a drastic change of pace, and in no small part due to watching Cyberus's video in The Commons, I've run my 5x Druids as Resto for the honor grind.
Initially, 1x melee would consistently take out my (quest geared, 0 Res) team.
They're almost fully geared now (have the 4.1 PvP Trinket, otherwise full 4.3 Honor gear).
As 5x casters (Resto Druids), melee aren't that much of a pain anymore.
I essentially Rejuvenate x5 whoever is attacked, and then Swiftmend x5 (for Efflorescence) and Wild Growth if necessary.
That will usually outheal 3-4 players focusing on the one toon.
It's important for me to get my 10x dots up on as many opponents as possible, and as quickly as possible.
5x Moonfire and 5x Insect Swarm does deplete their health gradually, while just healing myself eventually results in a loss.
The big cooldowns are:
- Tranquility (round-robin, frequently overlap them... starting the second when the first is half done).
- Tree Form (defensive) - I'd use this when fighting the end-boss, especially if horde run in to make it more difficult.
- Tree Form (offensive) - Wrath in half the cast time, doing 30% more damage can blow up fully geared pvp opponents in 3-4 seconds, and undergeared players fall to the second volley.
Important to note, you're running Elemental not Resto.
I'm running healer spec, and not Boomkin.
Not a perfect comparison.
My team performs very well with others around me.
And not nearly as well on my own.
Any 5x melee boxer destroys me, 100% of the time, and usually very quickly.
Uallaa: AV and IoC are my favorite, I'm only sitting in S10 on my shamans. (old gear) I would like to grab S11 from honor points, what I did just Q up with 3x for 10s and 15s, bg's and kept rotating them to get the honor gear by the time I did that new patch hit :-/ I really wanna do 5v5's arenas.
Im gonna be the first to say this, elemental shamans are in the weak spot this season. Against caster comps you stand a chance, but against melee cleaves or teams with a rogue/druid you are fucked! All DMG is through the roof, and against all these teams with major big defensive CDs you are pretty useless once you and your healers CDs are up. Thinking about throwing in the towel this season.
Ualaa ... Yeah we saw your Druids in AV the other day. Shamanone-ten blew you up I think. But that was one of those BGs where we have 20-22 "The Zerg" toons in from 3-4 boxers (one 10 shaman, one five DK and me running 5 elemental or resto shaman). I generally queue up for AV and IOC if 5 boxing. For conquest cap after getting my arenas I will take in 3 elementals and do random BGs. I haven't done many randoms this weekend due to Stands of the Suck popping up so many times. All of my toons names are different (Blutbad, Ziekvolk, Mellifer, etc...) so I never get called out instantly as boxing.. .and now I have two transmorgified so the visual throws people off too.
@Nikita: Yeah melee is the suck. Luckily I have discovered that if the team as 2-3 stealthers I am sometimes better off due to them being de-synced ... so I will rush in drop totems and smoke generally the poor warrior, DK or holy/ret while the mage/rogue/druid is hiding watching his first team mate take 5 x flame shock + lavabust with elemental mastery + gladiator trinkets popped... so all of those are fired off at 10K spell power x 10. At that point if I am not decisive it is a loss. If I can switch and kill another or put out enough pressure their healer will cruble. I have killed holy pallys before they can bubble and druids before they can tree up. My grounding totems generally help me weather the first volley.
I did bump into a mirror comp from another 5 boxer this week. We traded wins accidentally because whoever hit the grinder first died. I think my set up was better as he wasn't dropping heal stream totems and didn't cast healing rain so I could nuke him down better if we strayed too close. VS another shaman team I have started to push forward drop totems and then back up. Amazingly enough alot of players out distance their grounding totems and searing totems so by backing up I eat 5 spell and put more damage out with searing.
Just some tips. I did pick up an under geared resto druid to assist me but at 1.9K resil I ain't expecting much from him. I am hunting a healer on my server (Magtheridon) but haven't gotten a good one yet. I think with a healer I would probably win twice as much due to having an obvious train target and being able to focus on nuking vice surviving.
I need to buy the fraps subscription so I can do some movies... nothing much to see mostly me turretting and dropping nukes on unlucky people. It isn't a finesse team unless I get 2-3 down and have 1-2 dead on my team. At that point it is lightning bilts and shocks on the move with me dropping healing rains and totems while hunting.
smalltanker : do you stack mastery or haste for the shamans? when it comes to reforging gear.
Ive only played with 2200-2500 rating exp healers this season. And I gotta say, ele shamans are weak compared to regular comps. With some luck you should be able to break 2000 rating, but that is only if the stars aligne :) I reforge everything to haste. Close to 1900 haste if im not mistaken.
I'm looking and checking few armory from other people, some elemental guy with over 2k rating is running tons of mastery and almost no haste. So im very confused atm.
Is he a multiboxer? It kinda depends on your taste! Haste and mastery are close to equal for elemental shamans. I pref haste for PvP, since I want my dmg quick out there + If my team needs a heal, chances are for a interrupt is smaller.
Had a couple of run-ins with "The Zerg" today, in AV.
The horde took both of those games.
A 10-box shaman, some Elemental and some Resto.
And a 5-box death knight team, don't think they had a healer.
My team had mostly full Conquest (from patch 4.1) which would have been Honor gear in 4.2.
Not optimally geared, but definitely fairly geared to begin with.
Not sure how geared or not geared your teams were.
It was definitely fun going against another boxer.
The first match, I ran into the Shaman team a couple of times while they were killing others; the element of surprise helped a lot there.
The shaman team got me at Frostwolf Graveyard too, while I was "distracted" with other horde.
Pretty sure the DK team and I were 1W and 1L each.
Fun times.
@Ualaa: I am working now so no boxing for me until Friday night. Oathbreaker runs 2 resto and 8 elementals (hardware boxer). His restos have target-of-target set up to heal incoming damage nicely. Tinystomper runs 5 DKs (one blood four frost). When I roll with them I will sometimes do the 5 resto. I generally don't do a resto on my team as I am an ISBoxer and have my #8 key do the nextclick mouse broadcast for healingrain. my #7key is chain heal. If it gets bad I re-drop totems (wink wink grounding and healstreams again), #8 then #7 ... and then back to my two step spam key to blow shit up while healing a bundle.
So when the three of us roll together we have great synergy and having 20 level 6 frost wolf emblems = half the raid group summonng back to our starting point for back capping and messing up peeps in teh Horde base. If we get to Vanns room and have 2 towers down I can heal the blood tank while the 30 elementals and 5 x army does its thing. "The Zerg" showing up and popping CDs is awe inspiring to say the least... now if I can turn that into something past 1600 in arena I would be happy.
1600 should be easy to achieve. I did 1800 the first week of the season, with 2000 MMR. But after 1-2 weeks ppl started getting PvE weapons and trinkets. And after that it went downhill.
offtopic: anyone ever tried to box 5x mages in 5v5 ?
Tried a few games today and had no joy on about 6 attempts for wins. On one I got matched up with an 1800 rated team that destroyed me and another was a 1600+ ranked team where as I am around 878... so getting boned by having few teams in the queue this morning and afternoon. In the after noon I tried to run one of the shammies as resto.
Double healer teams are an issue as are the typical rogue/melee issues. Does me no good to blow up a HPally to have the druid survive and be down 1 DPS shammy with a 2nd dying shortly. So I will try again later this week.
I am thinking I should probably change up how I engage... Right now I drop totems, and hit my DPS macro that lights up my trinket + troll zerking + flame shock + Lavaburst with lightning being the filler.
So I think I may want to do a few LBs at initial target switch and then go ape with the shammy powa... Still a work in progress as I am slowly climbing up the ladder for the Ruin battle group... I know I need to get more chants and my head and shoulder PVP chants. Working on those.
All I can say is that Earthquake is king for me, if I can get it down 2 - 3 times while melee are on me I generally win. It buys me so much time to nuke the ranged while melee are taking a heap of damage and stunned nearly the whole time it is down.
pwnstarz: Alright I am looking at your spec vs mine as well some of your gearing choices and such. So I think I need to modify what I am doing a bit to tackle some of my issues. Previously I spec'd outo earthquake and was stacking more into resil, stam and such for survivability. So what that lead to is me having 4599 (44% damage reduction) resilience to your 4060 (40% damage reduction) at the cost of 1K spell power due you to stacking +40 int gems to me using +int or +stam and resil hybrid gems (green, orange, purples). So your spell power is rocking 8616 to my 7576. Add that to some of the other capabilities of spec's and my issue with melee cleaves I see that I need to probably make a "next click" key broadcast for earthquake to nerf those guys on me and up my spell power.
I think doing those changes will push me over my current wall and up the Ruin battle group ratings.
One question is are you playing the paladin healer on the team as well or is someone else heal botting you for arenas? I have tried doing straight elementals and think I am doing well but if I don't get an instant kill followed up by capping a healer after that I almost guarantee it is a loss. Suggestions?
Go for 4 ele shamans, stack int on em and get a decent holy pala or disc priest to heal you. Resilience wont help you much once you are above 4200-4500. Go for 5 % hit (4 % if you are a spacegoat), either neck or back with spell pen on, and your set.
Ive specced into EQ, its golden against melees swarming you. BUT, our tacs have changed this season. Instead of deploying your totems and wait for them to come, you should play very aggressive and attack straight away. I recommend to target DKs, warriors, boomkins, ferals, ele/enhancement shamans first. Make sure you purge your target first, flame shock him, and switch to a healer to pressure him. Then switch back fast and kill your target! I use a combo of trinkets, EM, lava burst + Earth shock.
My cloaks are the spell pen ones. I am working on getting new gems currently on my server +40 Int sells for almost 300 each... uggh... I have hitcap and am actively recruiting a healer. I am enchanting and regemming gear. While doing that I discovered one of my girls somehow or another managed to buy a PVP tank shield... WTH. Fixed that today. I respec'd earlier after looking at your spec and now have EQ and it is on "broadcast next mouseclick" works great but have still lost 7 matches straight this week and tanked my rating 30-50 points.
My bane has been teams with two heals. Today I got stomped by a 5 x arcane/fire mage team. Not boxed but haveing 15 images and that amoint of burst = doom for me. They nuked me straight out of invis. But I will get a few wins tonight or tomorrow. Trying to get my points and a new piece of gear this week.
Smalltanker, could you post a link to your team? Woud love to follow your progress. Most teams run with 2 healers, so get used to it. The worst teams I meet is teams with rogue, DK and feral in em. Death grip into a smokebomb while feral doing insta clones on healer = loss. In order to win I gotta kill the DK + a healer within 10-15 sec into the fight.
Zenga: Isnt the PvP hit cap for casters 5 %? Ive checked my character sheet aswell. Unless Im above 4% hit it says that I have a chance to miss an attack
