I am starting a new group of 5 mages and just curious what race I should go with, faction doesn't matter, just kind of weighing the pros and cons of various races with the mage class and can't make up my mind. I am basicly wanting extreme damage and will be attempting some herioc fun eventually XD
Gnomes are good choice Int racial with snare remover
Draenei good for self heals
Undead or Human good for free fear breaker
Troll nice for 20% casting speed racial
They all have their perks ... I would personally go with Troll or UD... i dont like ally toons.
Gnomes will get you a lot off QQ horde seem to hate being nuked by gnomes (its kinda funny)
if i see gnomes i purposely target and kill them first, because they are gnomes.
i dont know why i hate them, but i do and they all must die.
but ya i'd go with oath on this, if you are going to be pvping alot, go undead, for free fear release.
Gnomes 5% more mana racial is huge for arcane, since your arcane blast damage is based on your current mana.
i went blood elf with mine. arcane torrent is nice to have in pve and pvp
They all have their perks, go for the race you enjoy the most! you'll be watching it x5 for a little while!
I would personaly go for gnomes, but that's just me

:D Okay so I went gnomes, currently at level 18. The damage is... redonkulous! I am definitly loving the challenge. I tried deadmines at level 16, had quite a few deaths. I tried to set up ISBoxer with the mages assigning raid symbols for individual sheeping then realized I can't complete the quest objective in a raid group, so I need to figure out another way to do this while not in a raid group. Anyways after dying a bit I just started manually assigning raid icons and having the individual mages focus on thier icon before the pull and this made a world of difference. Made it all the way past the shredder boss then got too tired to continue for the night.
The biggest thing that made it difficult was my level and the bad to-hit on the elite mobs. Will try again soon and destroy some baddies :D
You don't need to be in a 'raid' to assign symbols, I use one key to cycle through each mage with a set focus and symbol. Once I see enough different symbols ... one key to sheep.Quote:

No you don't but you do need to be in a raid to promote the slaves so they can set their own symbols :DQuote:

I use symbols every single day on my slaves. Never in a raid, never have to screw around with anything, just each slave using a simple macro -

Also, Deadly Boss Mods will put Raid icons on your team for various alerts.

Patch 3.3.0 (2009-12-08): Any party member may mark targets (this does not apply to raid groups).
Previously only party leaders could mark.
can it be restricted though?, perhaps Hotnutz has a default setting preventing it or something
Addons might screw it up, but as far as I can see, there is nothing in the WoW settings that prevents people from using raid markers. I can even assign raid targets to things when I'm not even in a group.

Ya not sure whats going on then, the option is there when i right click a mob, but when i go to set the icon it doesn't show. When I try my macros, it sets the focus properly but no symbols as well.

How it works?
Main mage selects any mob.
key push: Shift+F1 (The mob is now focused by main mage, and the mob have mark Star above)
Main mage selects any other mob.
key push: Shift+F2 (Slave mage 1 assists Main mage. The mob is now focused by Slave mage 1, and the mob have mark Circle above)
and so on..
when you have 5 marks on mobs, you can simply press your sheep macro (I have it on 'L'-key) and all focused mobs will turn into fluffy sheeps. Now when you nuke any target, the focused mobs will stay in focus, and pressing sheep-key will resheep them.
So yesterday I was using this macro set on my mages and I had to change SetRaidTarget to SetRaidTargetIcon. I seriously spent two hours trying to figure out why none of my guys could set raid targets with a macro. Oh and go try this: use just the making part of macro two different ways. type it out in your chat window and also put it in a macro in game. notice how one works and the other doesn't?? Last night I was copy pasting and only the chat option worked. Using a WoW macro wouldn't work. I'm typing on a phone do its hard to explain without going into detail. SetRaidTargetIcon("target", 1); works when typed out in chat, but not in a button macro.... WTF
maybe the quote become special characters or something when you paste, and the chat automatically adjusts and not the macro editor.
