Starting a dynamic duo over the weekend, and just wondering on everyone's thoughts on classes that would work best together. I understand it relies mostly on how I plan to play them, and I am leaning towards a Druid and Belfadin combo. (Decent DPS and ulitmate survivability are my thoughts)
I'm not looking for the definitive answer, because I know there isn't one. Just intrested in starting a discussion.
What about 2 classes that wouldn't work well together...
I think the best combo is priest/warlock, because the voidwalker makes a decent tank and the priest can keep the warlock casting non stop with renew + lifetap.
There are a lot of other advantages, like the utility of the lock (keep priest soulstoned), the cheap warlock mount fare means that with a tiny bit of saving, you both get your mounts when you ding 40 and the epic mount is cheaper.
The priest and lock can multi-dot a target and it'll die from the dots while the voidwalker keeps its attention. This combo can take on a LOT of mobs when played well. I used to take down 5 elites before I had to drink, at that Scarlet hangout in EP. Mind control lets you take out an elite for free.
Any dual boxing that involves melee characters is naturally going to be more difficult, because rather than just turn at your opponent, you have to actually move to a specific distance to do melee damage. So if your target is moving you can't play your other char because you're busy keeping one char in sync with the target. I found that this made shaman/hunter painful (was melee'ing with the shaman).
I think druid/paladin would have similar problems, but it really depends on how good you want to do at multiboxing. I ran every 5 man and played competantly (and sometimes topped meters) in MC and BWL. I wouldn't have been able to do that with a warrior/rogue combo. Actually I might've been able to with pally/druid, though, if they both were just healing.
i think that priest lock sounds good but if you want to play around with AOE grinding then definitely roll priest mage
I am currently leveling my first dualboxing team ever and i started out with a draenei shaman/paladin. They reached Level 47 last night (yeah, no big deal, but I got exams at the university right now).
My primary motive was the high survivability and the damage dealer / healer combo. I agree with Xiven, that it is a little hard to get positioning right to be able to melee with both chars, but it just takes a little practice.
Around Level 40 I respecced the Paladin from pure Holy to 17 points Retribution and the rest back to Holy. Currently I am thinking about ditching Retribution and specing towards Protection for Blessing of Kings.
Pros:
- you can duo "everything" (normal Mobs up to +5 Levels compared to yours, most Elites up to +2 (Tethis, Bangalash, Bhag'Thera - you name it) and (using this a lot) adds)
- got a nasty 3-5 man patrol? Chain Lightning, Magma Totem, Lightning Shield, Retribution Aura and Consecration will take care of it
- saved 81g by getting the Riding 75 skill for free (bought an elekk though because draenei on a warhorse is not easy on the eyes)
- Blessings (!!!)
- Reincarnation + Divine Intervention + 2 chars with ressurrection
Cons:
- can't use Ghost Wolf
- PvP: when the shaman (computer -> better hardware) dies, the paladin (laptop -> a little older) is dead meat as well -> this is mainly due to the synergy bug, that makes your camera spin out of control when trying to use mouselook (tried the custom version, froze up for me)
- Horde seems to dislike draenei shamans: up to now I had half a dozen ?? players get of their mounts to just kill the shaman and then move on
Hint:
When trying to decide for a class, think about their playstyles. For example: I thought about teaming my shaman with a mage. Imo it wouldn't work that well because of their different playstyle towards mobs.
Mage: nuking -> drinking/eating -> rinse and repeat; multipulls/adds: frost nova -> run -> AoE
Shaman: Lightning Shield -> Stormstrike -> 1-2 totems -> melee to death -> rinse and repeat; multipulls/adds: stoneskin / magma / healing stream -> try to keep aggro of all mobs/ heal -> melee them to death
Of course a casting shaman would have maybe worked better with a mage (summon water/food), but since I started this game, I wanted to be "a hurricane", so Elemental was not an option.
But I guess, you get the idea: both classes should either share or complement their playstyle and unless you are a 300 APM korean RTS gamer, there is only so much you can do per second (also because of latency, global cooldown, server response time and hardware).
Other "good combinations" that come to my mind would be:
- 2x the same caster or 2x hunter -> this is a nobrainer - 2 frostmages, 2 affliction/demo locks, 2 shadow priests; fire mage + destruction warlock would be interesting; as hunters it is up to you whether you want 2 beastmasters, two marksmans or one of each; each combination has its perks
- mage + priest/warlock + priest -> again: shadow priests with an occasional HoT / Greater Heal
- melee + priest -> again, a nobrainer - the healer should keep his debuffs up (SW:P) and wand the target to death
- melee + marksman hunter -> be sure to just use autoshot mostly and keep feign death ready
- beast master + mage/shadow priest/warlock -> keep only the "tank abilities" (growl / screech) + maybe claw active; the damage will be done by the hunter and the caster; as a warlock, use an imp
Combinations I would stay away from:
- 2 rogues/2 warriors -> there is almost nothing to be gained and you will lose a lot of time to false positioning and healing
- 2 shamans/2 paladins -> although the healing is there, this team still lacks diversity and killspeed
Keep in mind, that all of these suggestions are made for the "plain old two-boxer" or beginner like me.
I also still not sure about druids. I guess a druid would go nicely with a mage/warlock (innervate + moonkin aura), a hunter/priest (feral spec) and a melee (moonkin or feral).
Oh, to answer it in advance: I did not choose a hunter, rogue, warlock, priest or warrior to team up with my shaman because I already have those at 60. They will, however, be accompanied by the Level 70 Paladin one day. :)
I just hit 60 with my BE Paladin / Mage duo. It has worked very well thusfar because of the Paladin's crazy buffing ability. Between blessings and various auras, the mage is pretty much unstoppable in an aoe grinding situation.
The nice thing about the Paladin as a healer is that if the Pally pulls aggro, the mobs can beat the piss out of him and not do a whole lot of damage. The only downside I've noticed is no HoT's. They would make things a lot easier, but given that I can run Blessing of Wisdom and randomly throw around Judgement of Wisdom on mobs the mage is aoe grinding, mana is never an issue.
Thusfar it has been my favorite duo for both pve and pvp. After about 15 minutes in STV, the Alliance nublets stayed the hell away from me and let me quest in peace. :)
I play a warlock/shadowpriest duo. Xiven mentioned a few things already about how well they compliment each other.
There are also a few other things that make these 2 probably the most synergistic duo.
1)Shadow priests get shadow weaving, which for every shadow spell cast on a mob, shadow spell damage increases 3%(1 spell) up to 15%(5 spells). Seeing as how a warlock is shadow and fire(although I use mostly shadow) you can see these benefits.
2)Shadowpriests also get misery which is just basically another 5% to spell damage on a mob again which helps the warlocks damage output(Or really any other caster in the group).
3)Shadowpriests get vampiric touch which returns 5% of all his(not the groups) shadow damage back to the group as mana. Again helpful to any caster.
4)Shadowpriests get Vampiric embrace which returns 30% of all shadow damage he(not group) deals back as health to the group. With a warlock's lifetap(which converts life to mana) this is great for a grind.(And if you are an affliction lock with soul siphon...it helps even more as you'll be non-stop mana for hours in a steady grind.)
5)Xiven mentioned this earlier, you can soulstone the priest. Which means you cut down on corpse runs since the priest can use the SS then rez the lock.
6)With fear, howl of terror, and psychic scream you should never really die anyway.
7)The lock has curse of shadows to help with the priest's shadow spells.
8)Hellfire is, I beleive, the strongest AoE in game per mana. Of course the downside to this is for every damage the locks gives out he takes himself. That's where the priest comes in. Bubble the lock, renew him, prayer of mending spam him, or whatever healing spell you have at your disposal depending on your situation to heal the lock while he hellfires and it's all good.
9)Power word: fortitude plus imp's bloodpact = major healthbuff.
10)Silence, curse of tongues and felhunter's spell lock will keep casters quiet for a loooong time.
11)Mass dispel, cure disease, spellstone and felhunter's devour magic should pretty much keep any unbeneficial effects off your toons.
12)Seduce and mind control to CC humanoids.
13)Shadow word: death(572 to 664 shadow damage) and shadowburn(597 to 665 shadow damage) on the same key broacast is an instant and with the CoS, misery, and shadow weaving effects up plus +spell they can be huge numbers. Great way to finish off mobs.
14)Shadow ward plus shadow protection makes you own anything that casts shadow spells.
15)Seeing 2 colorful streams(midflay and drain life/drain soul) at the same time right on top of each other is kinda cool too.
Anyway those are just some ways off the top of my head that locks and shadowpriests are synergistic or can achieve the same goal. I personally just like the fact I have the holy trinity in my duo setup. Lock's pet for tanking, lock for dps and priest for healing(although I use him mainly for his dps).
At the moment, my bloodelves warlock/paladin combo (pvp sever) is doing ok. The 2 complement each other nicely.
I've also tried hunter/shaman, and raided up to BWL with a Warrior/Priest combo that no one in the guild knew I was the same person.
I would say keeping the duo secret was very stressful and I wouldn't recommend it.
Keep in mind the style that you play. Are you actually trying to compete as 2 characters? Do you favor left or right hand? Do you play symmetrically? Do you plan to instance or raid?
Having a tank and healer is always nice, but I would imagine it's easiest to play 2 range types.

Having the two beefed up pets makes my little party almost seem like a full group.I typically have a VW or Felguard tanking, the hunter's ravager set up for DPS, the hunter also DPSing and my lock DoTing, DPSing and healing the tank if necessary. And so far, healing is a rarity because that much DPS drops things fast. I need to get more practice handling multiple mobs, but that will come with time.

I rolled a lock hunter to 70 and find with SoC for my lock...
the mob crowds explode like an omelette in the microwave:P
definately the best duo combo IMO ..not repetative like mage/pally
but not a job like rogue shammy..lol
ONly drawback is limited spots in endgame raids with the pet mastery specs...but nvr mind that..the combo is allways too much fun to worry:)
I am thinking about trying my first hand at Dual Boxing this weekend. I just went from a single computer setup to a dual computer setup/two monitors... God am I loving this. Using Synergy (With Broadcasting). Im quite inexperienced, but I am loving what synergy has done for me and I haven't even started my second WoW account yet.
I'm thinking of trying Warlock and a resto shaman (maybe resto/elemental). Trying to avoid the melee aspect of the shaman.
That would give me Heals, ranged spell damage, spell interrupts, snares, and shouldn't require me melee at all (I doubt if a high end resto/ele shaman melees much).
Any thoughts? My girlfriend wants to play a holy priest, so I dont see a point in running one with my duo.
