I know most of us are busy playing, but take a moment when you can and let us know whats working for you!

My bards are more than I expected! I fear they are a tad too good. DPS is ok,,good enough, but the healing of stacked bards is off the hook, and might get the nerf bat! If it does not, well.. WOOWHOO! I went down to 4 because i want to run smooth, and 4 is great! I have been doing great in PvE and PvP so far. I will report back as i level. I know other classes get better CCs and such later on.. but I get a ton of tricks as well, so well see.

i'm just single boxing it, tried a conjurer/elementalist combo i think, which burned down things pretty fast, and then a healer, haven't gotten onto the server we all are using yet because of the 2 hour wait time.
Very cool game so far though

I've been 3-boxing with 3 warriors spec'd ritblade/reaver/warlord.
I normally play with another warrior who's spec'd primarily reaver.

Up to level 22 atm and loving it. I did some 3-boxing with 3 clerics in beta, and I'm missing the healing. But wearing plate and with a warrior hit point pool, it takes a lot to kill me. Unfortunately the 5th we were going to play with, who was going to play a healer, hasn't shaken the WOW addiction yet, so I may swap in a rogue before too much longer as a bard/marksman to get some heals and extra buffs.

I'm doing Rogues with 2 roles:
MM/Bard/Ranger - For Rifting, Questing and PVP. Only 8 in bard (healz), 0 in Ranger (pet), the rest in MM. Spam Fan Out most of the time in PvP, and Cadence when something is in range.

Bard/Riftblade/Ranger - For Instance. 8 in Riftblade for enhancing Cadence, 0 in Ranger, the rest in Bard. Just Cadence everything, using either single target or AE finisher, and prosper.

I tried Pyro/Dominator/Elementalist, but they have no way to heal themselves, they can't burn down a single elite before it kills one of them, no snares at this level and their root breaks instantly. I couldn't take out a Major Rift by myself so I think I'll respec them and try agan later :p I hear Mos has the Mage solution.

I have been 3 boxing as well with:

Cleric ( Sentinel / Justicar / Druid )
Rogues x 2 ( Marksman / Ranger / Riftstalker )

Only level 10 due to sick kids, work busy, etc ...

However, loving it so far and with the above combo killing things is pretty easy.
Need to set up some priority macros tonight to invoke cooldown abilities before spamming the instants.

A friend of mine is single boxing a melee based rogue.

started over yesterday, Dualboxing two Mage: (Warlock/Necro/Chloro)

Had a brief look at melee teams, but follow works a bit different in Rift than in wow. I think that the follow range/distance is a big further than in Wow.

There is also no IWT. How do you guys manage Melee teams ? Or keeping track of combo/attack points ?

I also figured that the druid build I have is Macro Heaven, with all the instant abilities having a cooldown. How do you guys manage the multiple instant casts and different long casts ?

Just looking for inspiration :)

Yup, that's pretty much the spec I was working through on my clerics in beta. Been planning on trying a more Cabalist-heavy build, giving better AE damage.

I am using ISBoxer setup with FTL as per Lax's instructions.

During Beta I was dual-boxing a melee Cleric and a Warrior using HKN as I couldn't get get ISBoxer to work.
In that scenario I had the Cleric as my main and the Warrior on follow and it melee wasn't a problem.
I sometime had to run a little past the mob and turn and then mob would be sandwiched between both toons.

I don't find I need IWT for melee, however, I do miss it for NPC quests, looting, etc ... However, there are other ways to solve those issues.

ah oki, like pull get aggro and move back the other melee toons .

so if you have 4 melee and a healer you would have maybe let the healer follow one of the other melee ones ?

Yeah, you could have the main pull the mobs back, or just have everyone run to the mobs to get aggro.
For the healer, I did have a 2 steps setup in ISBoxer, the 1st time I hit the key it started follow, the 2nd it stopped.
This allowed me to park the healer and then move forward a bit to engage the mobs.

I also have the 'V' formation key setup in ISBoxer for my Rogue ranged guys.
I hit it a bunch of times to spread them out a bit and then aggro the mob with my cleric, then pour on the DPS.
This gets rid of any attempts by the mobs to do an AoE attack on all three, in theory in anyways. :)

Why bother? A lot of the bread and butter dps are DOTs or instant-cast. With Chain-wearing "casters" or in my current setup, Plate-wearing "casters", the damage the MOBs do in melee isn't too hurtful. Especially in the cleric-case with some instant-cast heals available.

Maybe it's because I originally boxed DAOC versus WOW, but I don't think being in melee range is so bad, compared to the constant interrupt problem in DAOC.

Been playing mixed 5 box set up through head start, one of each archetype with two Mages.

Have all 32 souls, been testing various synergies and parsing everything since I started.

Im having issues with DPS time in Rifts on my mages and bard so i have to come up with a new way to set them up with instant casts. I use 3 instant casts on my Healer, and shes usually the top of the chart in the contribution points with my warrior, while the other 3 are a bit lower. I've been able to get several epic shards on my tank and healer, but not my DPS toons, which tells me my DPS toons are spec'd wrong for rifting for sure.

What specs are everyone using for mages and rogues?

There were a few forum topics on the way rift contribution works. People with spammable insta cast spells seem to top the charts, regardless of how much dps. It seems like button smashing counts! They might have fixed it in beta. When I'm on my bards, if healing is not an issue, i tab around, spam quick shot, and I am almost always on top or near the top. If this is true, it need to be changed, it encourages bad playing. Healers wont heal if they don't get rewarded for example.

Mages are largely underpowered, with a couple of exceptions.


Pyromancer can do significant DPS. Chloromancer is strongest contender for a box setup :



1. They heal the whole party by DPS'ing (similar to Bard, except Chloro is doing double the DPS) this is 80% of any life damage, not just a single spell.

1a. They can apply a buff to one target that multiplies by four the amount that one toon gets of the 'healing dps' (Synthesis).


2. They apply a debuff that makes all players dmg have a 30% chance to heal the player for the same amount.

3. They have rez (in combat and out of combat).

4. They have a number of single target and group heals to help with burst damage (including a 100% heal on 2 min cool down).


Throw in 21 points to necro and the Choromancer also gets feign death ( feign death and rez = instant wipe recovery) and a lvl 50 Rogue pet.


I'd suggest the strongest box group will be :


1. One Warrior - specced Riftblade for trash, Reaver/Paladin/Warlord for multiple target tanking and Paladin/Warlord/Void Knight for single target tanking. I suspect this will be needed for hard dungeons.

2. One Mage (Chloro) for tank healing buff and FD/Rez or alternate DPS build.

3. Three Bards.

(Arguably swap out one Bard for the Chloro).



Might even need to find space for a Cleric (Sentinel prolly) for burst healing in hards.

Flight, you have to finish reading the Lifegiving Veil buff :) When you're affected by it you receive ZERO heals from other people's Lifegiving Veil... Which also shuts down Synthesis. Yes they sound great but there's no stacked healing.

Now, if you run them with a pet then sure. You can Synthesis that sucker right up and he'll get tons of healing.

I don't understant what you think I've missed. I didn't suggest mutiple Chloros - just the one.

I'm suggesting for 'hards' you are going to need a tank. Almost certainly a Warrior. And in a 'tanked' group a Chloro would be my first choice after the tank, for about a half dozen reasons.

if i stay with rift long term, my first goal is to get 5 of each archetype to 50. That way ill be able to mix and match later on to make sure i have every possible combo it would take to do hard modes, if it will even be possible to multibox hard modes.

I wish there was a macro command in Rift like WoWs "nochanneling" condition, due to bards main dps being a channeled spell 8\. Makes it hard to have them in a group with non bards.

how are you guys setting up macros to control multi classes with no sequences macros.

I have a few duos that ive started, my highest people havent made it past level 12 yet cause ive been screwing around and havent had that much time to play.

However, I just made a paladin / warlord / crusader + chloromancer / elemental summoner / warlock combo.

I think they're going to be fun! I just need to figure out the macros -_-

Feels like theyll be a great base to any group.

Cleric: 15 Sent, 4 Inq, 2 Shaman

TBH, I wish I would have made all rogues. I'm not getting much out of the tank at this level, and the cleric is really only useful when everyone is going to die 9 out of 10 times :) The bard heal capacity is pretty amazing, and I'd much rather have another bard over the current cleric build.

I might change my tune in a level or so when I start IT, but I doubt it so far.

Try Riftblade for questing. Mine often outdamages my Pryomancer, just spamming Flamespear and Fiery Burst). Open with Frozen Armour on the Riftblade, which increases all fire damage the mob takes by 20% and snares it. Try using the Rogue Nightblade fire ranged attacks.



Reaver/Pallie or Pallie/Warlord for instances.


Following builds I got from Zehn at FoH and work well (Pallie/Warlord from 17-50).

This is an example of my Fragmentation Bomb ability cooldown timer you saw in the screenshot. In XML format. I'm not really sure how you import it, but I'll try to use it to explain.
First, add your name to the Restricted Timer White List again. For every ability you make, make sure Restrict Timers To a White List is checked off. This will make sure it's tracking only your abilities.
•Name the spell Fragmentation Bomb.
•Timer Period in Seconds: Whatever the cooldown is. I'm fully specced into it, so the cooldown is 10 seconds for me as a level 7ish Saboteur.
•Warning Period: When it starts flashing at you.
•Remove timer from view at: When it's removed from the list. I put 0 seconds.
•Show Radial Timer Display: I always turn this off. Otherwise you get a pie chart timer thing.
•Allow Timer Mods to Affect This: I have no idea. Just leave it on.
•Display in Panel A: Check this off. You can have two separate spell timer windows, but for now we're only using A.
•Display in Panel B: Unchecked.
•Category: Put your class name. It'll keep it organized.
•Restrict to category zone or mob: Unchecked. No.

You should have a working ability timer. Like I said in the screenshot, for stacking DoTs it's a little hard. I managed to do the same thing as I did for Fragmented Bomb with a Nightblade's Fiery Spike, a DoT that stacks three times. After the initial 3 stacks I just watch the timer and make sure I hit it when I have 1-2 seconds left. It auto refreshes to 10 seconds, the DoT's duration, if it sees the DoT is still up.

Like he says, its spam central and it takes some work boxing, but it's a good solid build.
