I am running:
AMD 965 BE @ 3.8
8GB RAM
5870GPU
80GB SSD
What is everyone else running?
I run the following 5 machines...
1 x i7 960 Quad Core Processor (3.2GHz, 8MB Cache)
6GB RAM
GTX260x2
500GB Raptor x 2
3 x 1 x i5-655K Processor, 3.86GHz, 4MB Cache
4GB RAM
GTX250x2
300GB Raptor x 2
1 x AMD X4
3 GB RAM
GTX 250 x 1
1TB HD
the last X4 machine will be replaced in the next 2 months with a new i7x PC.
I have not played Rift at all yet. Are five computers really necessary to box this game??
I have core i7 920, 12 gig DDR3, GF 480 gtx, veloci raptor hard drive.
I can 5 box on my PC with everything turned on lowest setting with a lot of lag ( not fun ) 4 boxing is less laggy, just a tad annoying. 3 is smooth on low settings, gets bit slow if i turn up any settings on my main. I can run 2 with main max details and 2nd screen on low very smooth. I'm guessing the the newer chipsets, ram will help. Is anyone here 5 boxing on one PC smoothly? list your specs if so.
I will start off by playing 3. I want to 5 box it at some point for sure. I will wait and see what other boxers are doing. I might end up splitting the load between a few PCs, but i would rather do it on one PC is possible.
I 5-box on 1 machine, the lowest FPS in crowded areas is ~10fps.
i7 960 Quad Core (3.2 GHz, 8mb Cache)
12gb DDR3 Ram
GeForce 570GTX
2 x Raid0 1TB Western Digital something or other HDDs
During Warfronts, I have decent enough FPS, consistent with no stutterring, to play comfortably.
I use an i7 920 with 12g of ddr3 and a gtx 270. I 5 box with pretty good fps. My tips are thus:
1. In ISBoxer, turn on "Make game think it's the foreground window always" option. This boosted my FPS a bit.
2. In the video settings turn EVERYTHING down as far as it can go, and THEN turn on the low quality renderer. Log out with everyone and then log back in. This alone caused me to gain 10fps.
3. I set the main window to cores 1-4 and then each other window gets one core each.
I had to buy another 6g of memory bringing me up to 12 in order to comfortably 4 box. Specs are in my sig
What would I need to upgrade to be able to 5 box Rift comfortably?
The game looks fucking amazing.
I am thinking I'll need to upgrade my RAM and Video Card.
Any suggestions?
You might be ok with what you have.
Start by immediately signing up for 5 Rift Beta accounts (using 5 different Emails) as soon as you can. This way, you can test out 5 boxing for free, until Beta ends on Monday.
In ISBoxer in the Character Sets tab click on your Rift character set and then on the lower pane you can select each slot and assign cores to each slot.

good read for how to make Rift run better!
Physical cores are paired up with virtual cores... so 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8. You should balance your team however works best for
your computer. Some people claim 2 physical cores per window, some people claim 1 core per window, some others claim
pairing up the physical core with its virtual core is better than not, then some others turn off hyper-threading altogether, and
then.... see where this is going? :) There is no universal right answer, there is only an answer that works for your computer
and how each game you play handles multiple cores or how Windows handles them for you.
I would say that a universal wrong answer would be to assign game windows to a virtual core that aren't using that physical
core because that usually doesn't work out well.
Thanks for the help. Much appreciated. :)
Before a few days ago. i had HT turned off and did not realize i ever even had HT or what HT was lol. I was trying to OC my cpu and at one point crashed. When i rebooted it gave me an option to set things back to default. I got in game.. was setting up my team and notice i gained 4 more cores ( long story short.. i now know about HT )
Before I had the V cores on, i could not handle 5 clients of Rift. Now i have all clients set to the physical cores only and 5 clients run great! Less than perfect, but very playable. where as before I could not play 5. So the HT seems to be helping me.
Right now I only have my laptop and my secondary desktop up, but will be working on getting at least 6 screens and desktops back up again. I think this one I have up now is one of my i7 920, classified mobo, 5870 vid and 6gb of ram. I have 2 other i7 builds similar to that in peices from when I moved. Another 920 and and i975. Then some ITX builds running e8500 cpu's and GTS250 vid cards. Enough for 12 complete builds. After playing a couple hours 5 boxing on my one desktop, I am really looking forward to getting all dedicated hardware for each account up and running again. Here is what it looked like when I first set it up. Just subtract the 4 outer screens and thats what it'll look like now.
