One boss to go and all Heroics cleared.

Hey everyone,

Had some time these past couple of days and was working on the last heroic I need to clear, which is Throne of Tides. Finally got a strat for the first boss and downed her earlier. Took about 10 tries, but I think I have a pretty good handle on her now. Boss two went down first try. I didn't realize the void zones keep growing and got lucky with positioning.

I only had enough time to try Neptulon a few times. He is tough. The ink phase is very difficult. You need to kite the big adds around somehow and still dps the three final adds. I tried to tank them all, but they kill me pretty fast when all three are on me. Was able to get two of the final three adds down each time, but then almost instant death.

Anyway, if I can manage to get him down I will have cleared all of the heroics multi-boxing. I only had help on one fight, and that was the final boss in GB.

One tip that worked for me is mixing up classes. For example, I swapped in a hunter for the first boss in Heroic GB and used ice trap on the malignant trolls. Made it much easier. Or, using a DK for the first boss in Heroic HoO since he can strangulate at a distance(to interrupt the boss) and can self heal well (when getting the levers). Another example is Setesh. I swapped in a shadow priest, went all dps and was able to get him down pretty easy that way. Kill the first two portals, then just dps him down.

I have all 346 gear with about 3 to 4 epics per character. I used every class and swapped some in and some out during the same instance run to get adds down. Another example is using the pally during the first boss in BC since he can mitigate the damage and stay in during chains of woe to kills the adds. Made that fight very easy.

Anyway, one more heroic boss to go! Was hoping I could get them all completed before they nerf them, before I outgear them and before my accounts expire.

I have some vids I'll try to put up of Lost City, GB and ToT later on. Other than that, I'll most likely be moving on to another game for a bit.

I do think it's possible. When I started running into brick walls in heroics I tried mixing things up some and it ended up working for me. The problem with this expansion is it feels like they went out of their way to try to discourage multi-boxing. I am sure that was not their goal, but it sure feels like it sometimes.

In most of the previous 5 mans you could learn a strategy and it would work 90% of the time. This expansion has some fights like that, but then there are extremely random encounters with extra mechanics that are there to intentionally slow you down. General Husam in Lost City and Throngus in GB are perfect examples of this. There is no safe strategy to complete them every single time. The entire floor is exploding, on fire, rumbling or whatever, which makes it extremely difficult to continually be moving, healing, interrupting, ccing and dpsing the boss down. They are chaotic fights that can be very frustrating. It just feels like Blizzard wants everyone going in different directions doing different things to make running more than one account unappealing.

I think if you have a way to dispel, cure poison/disease/curse, interrupt and CC with sheep, hex or whatever you can do pretty much anything. How you put your team together is entirely up to you.

The other key thing I did was switch back to one button macros. I was slowly starting to use more and more detailed and complex two and three button macors. With all the moving and positioning with the new heroics I decided to simplify my macros as much as possible so I could focus on movement, interrupts and cc. With my current one button macros I can get anywhere from 10k to 14k per character on the target dummy with just basic buffs and no heroism/bloodlust. This made things much easier since I only had to hit one key for dps, then one key for interrupts, one key for cc and so on. I was even able to create a decent Ret one key macro that gets him doing dps on par with other melee characters.

Anyway, run what is fun for you. The game will only get easier as it goes along. Once the next tier comes out and they move the 259 gear to the JP vendor it will get much easier. It will be a lot of fun going back to heroics and running through them with better gear. I do think that even with better gear you will still get killed pretty quickly if you stand in the fire too long. They should tone down some of the one hit kill mechanics. If they do that, it will be a lot more fun.

It won't be long. People will start clearing these things in numbers. There is already a hunter who solo'd Heroic VP. That's just the beginning.

I have a question about one of your statements. I am unfortunately new to multiboxing, and just started 2 days ago, and also new to WoW. I have never dealt with dispel, cure, interrupt, and CC as such. I tried to google it, and I did learn a great deal, and I have a couple of questions, but if this is in anyway hijacking the thread, please ignore this completely! :o

Looking at the wowwiki exert just above, is it fair to say that if you have a shaman and a paladin in your group purely as an example that you have everything covered except interrupts? And when you say interrupts, is that for instance a warriors pummel or mages counter spell or are there other ways?

All shamans have Wind Sheer for interrupts. Ret paladins have Rebuke, which will become a class skill with the patch.

Teslah, I'm not sure everyone who reads your post appreciates what you've been able to do. I know what it has been like to down a few heroics consistently, but I'm far from having them all down and I certainly haven't experienced all that they can throw at you. Heck, I haven't even set foot in Throne of Tides (regular or heroic).

Your post is quite a contrast a few other posts here about people struggling with heroics (and many quitting with this at least part of their reason). You seem to have persevered and prospered through hard work. Bravo. I look forward to your videos!
I have a couple of teams that have ilvls in the 340s and a couple that are pretty new with ilvls around 330. Getting a few more heroics down will make gearing them easier.


Whur, other interrupts that are a godsend are the famous shammy Wind Shear and the Boomkin's Solar Beam. Pallies have a stun that acts as an interrupt but is on a longer cooldown. Those, in addition to the warrior and mage ones you mentioned should keep you ready to stop those mobs from casting their worst crap on you. Keep learning and having fun.

It's funny I predicted that heroics would be cleared next patch by boxers. Looks like I was being too conservative. My next prediction will be that we can faceroll heroics by 4.2. I.E. no CC, no special setups for bosses. Straight up massive heals and massive dps to win.

Wow this inspired me congrats I was on the verge of wrapping up all my wow subs and giving up. Maybe Ill stick around awhile at least till Knights of the old republic. Congrats again !!!! I just thought it was going to be impossible for boxers I was proved wrong.

No question this expansion is frustrating. I certainly have moments where my mouse gets a beating, and I am ready to throw my computer through the window lol. I don't want anyone to think there is a magic formula, and I am holding a coffee in one hand while running heroics. Some of the fights require constant focus and a lot of luck.

I did want to clarify a couple of things for everyone.

1. By no means do I have places like Lost City, GB or ToT on farm. Some of the fights are as much luck right now as strategy. Some of the bosses I have only killed a couple of times, but it feels a little less stressful now that they are finally down.

2. For DPS I can get 12k to 14k (spikes only) at the target dummy with no one moving, totems down, regular buffs up and letting dots get fully going. In dungeons I am averaging about 8k to 11k for full runs. No way I can maintain the target dummy numbers. Someone asked me to fraps the target dummy recount thing for 30 seconds to show them I can get to 10k+ with a one button macro on severtal different classes. I can get to 12k+ on all classes now (only at the target dummy and some boss fights) with one button macros. I'll try to do that later today.

3. If people have the ability to get help, do it. Before clearing some of these solo I brought a friend along to make things easier. Just having one more real person in the group makes a huge difference. If you have the ability to do it, by all means get someone else to help you get these things completed.

4. Run everything on normal to get used to it. Once you do ToT on normal you'll think this place is a cake walk. Of course heroic will be a little different. Heroic Lady Naz was one of those I thought I would never get, but I finally was able to get the right movement down.

A quick strat for her. Stay grouped, move for poison throw, whirlpools and you have to interrupt shock blast every time. The real pain of this fight is when the adds spawn. I swapped in a mage after a few wipes, made e a /target witch /sheep macro and was able to get the hang of it after some time. The vortexes that spawn from the middle and constantly come at you are a royal pain. What I started doing was getting as far out from the middle as I could so I had time to move. Also, during this phase spread out or you will have 3 to 4 vortexes coming at you at all times. I was able to sheep one add, tank the two remaining, kill the chain lightning witch first, then the melee guy, then the sheep.

5. Also, for the harder fights I used elixirs, potions, resists, drums and so on to max all stats. They are easy to make and helped me get bosses like Setesh down at first.

6. For many of the first time clears of heroics I would end up with two or three people alive. It gets easier, but I died a lot just trying to get comfortable with everything. It wasn't pretty, but it got done. It's getting a little easier just because I know what to expect now.

7. Lastly, once you can get the first boss down the rest seem easier. I am not sure if they designed it this way, but examples include ToT, GB, LC, HoO. Those first bosses seem really tough at first, but once they are down you can get several more of the bosses much easier. Of course I have yet to solo GB end boss and didn't get ToT final boss down yet. I'll probably get some help on that one when I have a chance to run it again.

Anyway, I am guessing most of the people ready to quit are just frustrated. Their competitive side will get the best of them and they will keep trying. As I mentioned, I will most likely take a break. I always do after I am able to experience most of the content in an expansion.

Good stuff I also have yet to finish Throne, but at this point I don't need the gear, so haven't been motivated, working on tier11 content now. Neptune is a PITA, but my suggestion is that you use a "Target and Hold" system. This way you can set your dps to dps down the adds, while you are kiting with your tank targeting whatever you need to.
