Seriously silly question about 5 boxing.

Hello!

I've been considering 5 boxing for a while, however, my purpose is a bit different, it's to explore the content I missed. I started playing WoW due to real life friends and family, and they shot me through to 80, which was great as I could join them on my hunter for raids, and gear up and fun in general.

However, I missed most of the content e.g. 5 man, especially classic and burning crusade. I was thinking of starting a 5 man team to slowly level up and do instances and have fun in general exploring all the content I missed.

So my question is, what would be an easy selection of classes that would achieve being able to do 5 mans while levelling up? Is there a cookie cutter setup?

I'm by no way looking to be uber, or to raid in Cataclysm with the 5 characters, just be able to do 5 mans along the way of leveling up, and possibly make crafting characters.

5man content from 0-60 is incredibly easy. You can dominate all the instances with any group makeup.

BC 5 mans require at least a dedicated tank.

WOTLK will need a dedicated tank that can be healed capably.

That said I'd go with tank, 3 different dps, healer - mixed group. IMO, a variety of classes keeps it very interesting.

For PvE, I'd go with:
- 1x Prot Paladin
- 3x Elem. Shaman
- 1x Demo/Destro Warlock.

Possibly dual-spec one of the shammies to Resto.
That would make harder content (ie, being undergeared) a lot easier.

If you want to do everything at 60th, you could turn off experience most of the way in 60.
And do as much Classic Warcraft stuff as you'd like.

Then turn experience back on, level to 70th.
And do the same, as you go through all the level 70 content.

You dont need to 5 box to see the old content. A level 80 tank in t9 badge gear can solo everything even some of the current level 80 dungeon heroics. There are a ton of YouTube videos of almost every class soloing BC raid content.

Personally I would recommend using one of the more classic and tested groups if you have not multi-boxed before. A tank and 4 shaman are arguably the easiest to get up and running. If all you want to do is old content, even 5 shaman will show you everything. You will only have to setup one set of macros and control and copy it to the rest. Its very easy to just one button face roll everything from 1-80 these days. However if you are thinking of 5 boxing for the long haul, then there are a ton of extra factors to consider. Such as group makeup, item and armor usage so nothing that drops goes to waste. Rezing and trade skill setups. PVP. etc. There are a hundred party setup threads here. Search and see what has been recommended before.

Thanks Ualaa, I assume that Pally is easier to control than a warrior tank, thats why pally is more popular.

Thanks SBJones, you are right, I have been exploring on my hunter a lot of the low level stuff, but I have always had a fetish towards more than one account, and since I found this site and have been reading, I really like to try 5 boxing, and who knows maybe five box most of the WoTLK and some of the Cataclysm when not many people are on.

Forgot to add, I might do

1xPally dedicated tank.
4xElem Shamans (converting 1 to resto later on)

Just to make it a soft/easy start for my multiboxing career. :)

First off: make sure (if you go with new accounts) to go the Recruit A Friend route. If properly setup, you can easy make a new level 60 toon in minutes when you want to replace a class you are not to happy with. Lot's of info can be found on this site about RAF.

Second off: yes pally tank + 3 ele shaman + 1 resto shaman is the cookie cutter setup. Not only in terms of synergy & damage output, but also in terms of available tools for both pve/pvp (a chain heal or 2 can do miracles, totems, etc ...). The fact that lava burst is now available at low level (believe 34) makes it a very strong choice for sub 60 content.

However knowing what I know now, I'd never go with a shaman healer. A resto druid makes healing on the run so much easier. And you can always dual spec him chicken to dps when the fights are too easy. Now I don't really enjoy tree's myself, so I'd go for a disc priest.

If I was in your shoes I'd go for:

Druid Tank
Shaman DPS
Lock DPS
Mage DPS
Priest Healer.

Yes the setup of this team is a bit more complicated than shamans, but the utility that a lock & mage bring is awesome (food, summon, cc, ...). To be honest I now regret a little bit that I went Pally + 4 shaman for pve (for pvp having my shamans is awesome). A mixed team is so much more fun.

However as said earlier, you can easily swap replace toons at level 60 when you use RAF properly without much effort.

Personally I would make a druid team. Later can dual spec for PVP if you want. They are simply an 'all of the above' type of group. And for instances if you want you can just stealth around the crap you don't want to deal with.

Here are my quick thoughts on the various tanks and healers:

Warrior tank - Awesome, very nice dps and does a lot of damage. Very easy to use, decent aoe threat, very very good single target threat. Has stuns up the ass too. Stamina buff that stacks with other buffs.

Paladin tank - Good. Nice aoe threat, very nice aoe pull. Decent single target threat. Okay dmg output. Easy to use, buffs/auras

Druid tank - terrible aoe threat, good single target threat. health up the ass. can rez, buff, heal. decent damage output.

Shaman healer - Chain heal is great, has a HoT with a talent/glyph. Earth shield rules, riptide is great. Can cleanse, totems are very nice for melee or caster team. Self rez, very mana efficient.

Druid - heals on the run are spectacular for certain boss fights, very good healing and nice group healing. battle rez. tree form is cool looking.

priest - kinda boring healer, good group healing. spirit buff. not bad at all, just not my favorite due to my playstyle.

pally healer - i hate them. crappy party healing. very boring. i hate their style of healing. this is just my opinion, i'm sure other people like them. when i was pugging on my tank i noticed they were the worst healers.

What you said. This is crazily easy, and even more crazily easy once you get reincarnation on the shamans.

Thanks d0z3rr, I decided in the end to go with the cookie cutter 1x Pally tank (played by a friend that decided to reroll) and 4 shamans by me. I was honestly thinking at first of going druid tank, but the long delay on aoe threat is a bit of a problem for my newbie multi boxing skills.

It's been great so far. Can live in low level instances. :)
