After looking at the gimmick Cata boss fights, i though it might be easier to get some pvp gear first to start heroics. Then i realize there are no more Arena points. iLevel264 pvp gear can be purchase with Honor Points. Are there any other restrictions? Spirit Beast and talent has some healing abilitys. I am not really up to date on pvp. I have been boosting my teams for Cata.
I have some hopes that they will be able to do at least some instances with the pets tanking. With the zero-cooldown Misdirection thing it has possibilities, though I'm expecting them to put a cooldown on that before too long.
As completely OP as my 3-hunter sub-group is right now in at-level BC content, it'll be interesting to see how they do in NR instances. The skeptic in me says "BAH...they won't scale...don't get your hopes up" but the wishful thinker in me says "just...maybe..."
Let me kick the wishful thinker in you in the nuts right away. Hunter pets can't tank heroics, period. Even if you have 5 of them.Quote:

I leveled up 4 hunters and a priest to 80, I regretted almost every bit of it.
The melee range thing is just horrible. i.e. they start swinging melee weapons instead of shooting.
The 4x snake traps and 4 pets were fun, but trying to take a tower or hold a tower in AV for example, was just about impossible.

Yes. It is a perfectly "viable" comp. It is ideal for those seeking a mediocre battleground team, a dismal arena setup, and a marginal PvE team that will barely tackle content (if at all) unless it considerably over-gears the stuff.Quote:

We'll see how things scale with NR instances, but I just plowed Underbog with 3x level 65 hunters. I'm sure some of that is the new talents/mechanics but I'm still in shitty greens with the warlock chest/shoulder cloth heirlooms. I think a pet died like 3 times; twice due to tweaking macros so it kept Mend Pet rolling and once due to me pulling 3 groups of 4 at once. I can see this being seriously crazy once I get misdirect.
Lol exactly. Hunters are that class that gets buffed to seem viable and then cold reality hits you in the face. It's the one set I wish I had never wasted time leveling. :(
My problem was never pet threat, it was the fact that pets couldnt live through heroic trash in northrend. BC dungeons were a joke however.Quote:

Arena Wrath gear rating requirements has been removed. Except i277 weapons. So over gear it now if you have Honor Points
Which wrath gear do you mean? Only some wrath gear can be bought at e.g. belf veteran armor quartermaster in Orgrimmar, but those are same as before the 4.0.1 patch. All other wrath gear seem to still require ratings...Quote:

P.s. Just because you can overgear heroics and complete them does not mean you will have any success in cata. In fact I will go out on a limb and say that hunter teams will clear no heroics in cata until the next expansion is already being beta tested. If that floats your boat then go for it.
Just thought I'd add this bit of info from the latest beta patch:

The change to Grace of the Mantis is a minor one for the vast majority of gameplay but a huge one for extreme soloing or pet tanking. Raid bosses have a 5.6 percent chance to crit their target, and Grace of the Mantis only reduced crit chance by a maximum of 4 percent. In Wrath, hunters managed the extra 1.6 percent crit reduction for their pets by stacking resilience gear. With the changes to resilience in Cataclysm, that is no longer an option.
Now, however, hunter pets will once again be able to attain raid boss crit immunity. This leaves the door open for extreme pet tanking in Cataclysm."
Will it work? Not sure, I guess people will have to do some testing, but it looks like we won't have to stack resil gear to achieve a simple crit-immunity.
