If you were to switch to one character....

I'm going to stop boxing come Cata. It just doesn't interest me anymore and I cant help but feel required to spend time with every character I have at max level. I hate the job feeling so I'm going to level one character to 85 and max everything i can on them (raids, profs, achieves, etc).

With that in mind I want my character to be very desireable for PuG raiding and fast queue's. That reduces it down to healer or tank capable class:

Paladin: Ret/Healer, Healer/Tank or Tank/Ret
Priest: Disc/Spriest, Holy/Spriest (disc/holy doesnt make much sense)
Druid: Resto/Cat, Resto/Tank, or Tank/Cat
Shaman: Healer/Ele, Healer, Enh
DK: tank/dps
Warrior: tank/dps


I'm leaning to Paladin healer/tank, but I'm always open to suggestion. I would like to keep my priest since he has most achieves (and kingslayer), but I figure that can be done with a PuG raid after everyone hits 85 and be even easier than it is now.

I would do this or a Druid healer/tank....but that is just my opinion and the classes i like to play more are healer and tank.

Problem with Mage: DPS spots always fill first. My healer always gets accepted to a raid and my tanks dont have too much trouble. If I want to bring a dps it's always: "Do you have XXXXgs and Y/Y achieve?" And usually the gs is ridiculously high, like 6k for icc10.

Questions for healers and tanks is usually, "Do you not suck?"

I think by combining healer and tank you pretty much guarantee having a spot in a raid. I don't mind healing or tanking either. I find healing fun as long as it's not ridiculous raid damage where I feel like I can't even glance away from Grid.

I think it is going to be Paladin and Tank/Healer, but I just wanted to hear some ideas. Also a side note: Paladins enjoy getting all their gear (Holy) to themselves and it seems are always hard to find for my PuG raids.

Paladin can always go ret if you get bored of one spec.

i think i might only solo play Cata for a little while (couple months) and pretty much asked myself the same question.
To me the answer was quasi-immediate: i'll solo play my Paladin because:
- it can fill any role well
- it will probably level prot anyway, and fast groups is great
- it's the one i currently have done most achievements on/focused most on
- last but not least: When I come back to boxing cata (you know you will) i'll have a geared tank to boost my other toons. And god knows how everything gets easier when the tank is well geared.

Otherwise, If you have to have versatility then I would for sure go druid. You can play all roles caster,tank,melee and healer.

Ya druid was second up because I can race change to worgen. =/

Used to raid mainspec resto druid, off spec tank. Was awesome, would heal in raids with occasionally tanking, and always tank the random daily since it allowed me to go fast. No wait time etc.

Tough choice between pally and druid but I think I'd go druid if I went back to solo. They excel at all the same roles as a paladin but they also get stealth and instant flight form. ;)

I picked up a priest - and for raiding was Disc / holy, since some fights are more AOE based and others I would MT heal or something. Your sick in arena's, and will be more offensive in cataclysm then we are now.

You can go heals / dps, which alot of raids and guilds want constantly to fill roles. There are always more spots for healers then there are tanks, since almost all raids are balanced around 3 tanks 5-6 healers and rest dps.

Paladin though, your great in arena too... you can do melee dps and tank, but I don't think they are as diverse as a priest.

I dont mean to derail your thread, and I fully respect your reasons for going back to single boxing - but I see its quite a trend and for some very active boxers here.

I did what alot of you are planning to do back at the start of Wrath. I tried to play my Paladin and 4 Shadow Priests and it just didn't work well, I got disheartened and went to single boxing for many months before levelling up 4 shamans when you could level through PvP and had a geared out tank. I remember heroics where not easy as I lacked hit and other things, but my tank could take a beating.

The one thing I'm most excited about Cata is the new challenges to overcome as a boxer, and to be doing it on day one - to have to learn to effectively use CC, to use the advanced features of ISBoxer or JMB to their fullest. To be one of those people beating the content at its current Tier, not coming back in 6 months later or waiting for the Niley's and the youtube videos or to overgear it.

I'm looking forward to discussing and debating over strategy and makeup in the PvP and PvE forums and seeing these forums come back to life and hopefully show a bit of their former glory from the older days.

But to your original question if I had to pick one thing, I'd pick the same thing again:

I'd suggest Paladin because I'm biased and originally when I started boxing back in TBC, I wondered why I'd never played one before and it became my main and always will be. :D

If you do plan on doing this, and plan on doing so permanently, I want to share some GOOD NEWS:

1) You can still transfer characters from the dead account to your main. Boom, incoming handful of level 80s if you want them.
2) If, like me, you only bought the "Celestial Steed" or other fluff on your main account, once you transfer your alts to that main account it's now available to them. Forever. (I was only transfering to claim an X-52 touring rocket, but BONUS)
3) If you change your mind later and want to go back to multiboxing, you can transfer back and keep the goodies.

That was my experience, and is of course always subject to change according to the ESRB warning.

Mage. When I play solo, my mage is king. Most fun in PvP, and people love when you make them dinner.

Druid feral (tank)/resto duel spec. You can heal and tank and that tanking spec also does respectable dps in cat form.

I seem to be outnumbered, but my vote is for prot warrior.

I would say if you're going to focus on a single character, you should also focus on a single role as well. My favorite role has always been tanking, and my favorite tank has always been warrior. Given a choice of tanks, raids always like having a warrior. Sure, other tanks can do everything just as well, but a lot of people still subconsciously associate warriors with the pre-WotLK days when the best raid tank was a warrior, hands down.

I also find the warrior tanking mechanics more interesting than the other tanks, but that's just me.

mage or warrior

Pally Tank / Lock
The lock is my achieve junky with max fishing/cooking, and is reasonably geared. The pally is my "other" main. I would take both but if forced to choose just one, it would be the lock everytime, there's just something uplifting about draining someones soul. Mwahahahahaha!!!

I think paladin raiding = boring as hell. You can spam 1 button as prot and basically spam holy light as holy. Ret you have some form of randomness so they aren't too bad.

I'd go with a DK or Warrior tank or Priest/Druid healer even though healing is like wack-a-mole /yawn

I solo raided for a while just to help friends out with some roles they needed filled.

I'll tell you its alot less stressful. You will miss it if you pvp though thats for sure. I'm excited about the new battlegrounds and the combining of realms to make ques faster. No way am i going to stop multiboxing!!! atleast for now :)

I have been thinking about this alot as well. It makes me a bit butt hurt because I love boxing so much but meh. Anyway Here is what im between..

DK Tank/DPS

Druid Heal/ Caster (because They can share gear pretty effectivly)

Make a new Priest and check out all of the new 1-85 content in one fell swoop. (same as the druid on sharing gear for the most part.)

As a Boxer I also have a Pally which meh sounds ok but they seem spam happy to me TBH.
Also a shaman but besides healing rain im not like OMG AWESOME

Ill be honest though im not sure how happy I am about leveling a new character /wrists.

I box for pvp purposes only. With the changes to arena/pvp gear(no pr) and BGs(all gear access) in general the benefits I saw in boxing will be diminished.

I hate healing, its the suck. Plus my wife is always the healer in pve and I only solo box pve. :P

I enjoy certain classes in pvp and pve. I will mostly just play those.


If anything I will at most box 2, so I can still do 2v2 in cata.



Edit: Also, for me there are a couple of extra bonuses. I dont get any hate in bgs when only boxing 2 and I am doing the same thing as 5s boxers are. I am boxing Dlock+eleSham while I grab another person for heals(druid in this case) and playing LSD is alot of fun. So its the x4+ another person in 5s that most boxers play but on a smaller scale. However, if you do box pve also I would see the benefit of 5.

I started my own guild awhile back and was 4 boxing shamans in ICC 10 and we got to sindragosa, but around that time I merged with another friends guild so now we had lots of people we were running 3-4 full clear 10man grps a week an ICC 25. So I was just playing my hunter or main shaman in the 10man grps and running 25man 4-5boxing, and it worked out well.

I've been multi-boxing since everquest I don't really see myself completely quitting multi-boxing. I think boxing will still be viable in cata, but it will just be diff. With 10man and 25man raids dropping the same gear that motivates me to stay 4 boxing 10mans, but I haven't seen the fight mechanics yet to know if that's fully possible.

If I do go back to 1 char my toss up is between Lock/Sham/Hunt/Rogue.

Am I missing something why are a ton of people suggesting Mages.... Whats so amazing about them in cata?

Food/ Ports / Lust / Leet dps?

I'm doing the same thing here as Zub. Pally has always been my favorite class and since they're still gonna be good for tanking in Cata, I'll work more on him. So far I haven't run ICC or any 10s yet, but he's the best geared toon I have. Atleast once I start back up boxing, my dps/healer won't pull aggro so easily. Hopefully Holy Pally will be better at group heals too so I can stick with my all pally team. Druid is second best imo for another candidate since they can fill out every role. Respecing would be a pain tho.

I'm completely hooked on my Shaman(s), even though their itemization was totally borked in LK. I have faith (*gulp*) in Blizzard to rectify that in Cata, so I'll likely stick to my Enh/Resto combination.

im already playing my paladin solo and have been for a while now. He is tank/dps. Both specs are all icc 25 level gear and a few 25man heroic items. He can solo some of the normal 5 man heroics. There are a few bosses that are impossable due to mechanics like Kelseths iceblock etc. You are frozen the entire fight and just die. basically he is now where he can solo what used to take a full group.
