Will this work [RAF Question]

So i recently made a group of 4 shaman and 1 druid but I have a lot of plans coming up in real life (going to mexico) that will impede on my leveling speed, so I was wondering if the following would work:


I have a 80 paladin that can powerlevel my lower toons on different accounts via instance boosting fairly efficiently, and I have my RAF set up to where all of my slaves are linked to my main. So techincally, couldn't I just powerlevel the 4 shaman with my 1 paladin and then when they reach 60, use the free levels to get 2 free 60s (4 x 30 lvls), or just use the free levels to boost my druid to 60 to catch up with the group?

No. The referrer account and new "friend" must be grouped together and within a few levels. If you chain the accounts, Main->Friend1->Friend2->Friend3, you could do this sort of boosting, but then the levels get granted up the chain, not all to your main account.

Well really I boosted toons before and you only need to level up to get the new levels. Also, my toons are linked like this

Main > Slave1
Main >Slave 2
Main > slave 3
Main > Slave 4

This was a mistake when I did it, but it might actually turn out to work in my favor now that I want to try this. Im sure it will work, im just at work right now and cannot test it.

Wouldn't you normally link them Slave1-->Slave2-->Slave3-->Slave4?

It's been a while since I RAF'd now, but I don't see how your arrangement is going to work if the Main is 80 and the slaves are all leveling.

The "star" arragenemnt is way way worse then the "chain" arragment. But kinda late now

But ya if you level 4 to 60 you can grant to alts on the main. I would level 4 alts to 30 on the main account , then you could grant them all up to 60 with the four star accounts. You could do 2 to 60 but its kinda waste to grant levels under 30 cause they are easy/fast to get. Then you would have 8 characters level 60.

The question is if the alts still get good xp when linked to a higher level main running them.

If your booster is on the main acct that referred the other 4 accts, then no, you wont get RAF experience from boosting. If you make another brand new acct, and xfer the main to that one, then it will work, provided theres always a toon being boosted on the main acct the same level as the other 4. You also have to boost 4 at a time, and leave one stranded. Tough call IMO.

You also might consider moving the booster to one of the new RAF'd accts and boost the other 4, you lose out on some gifted levels but you dont have to round robin boost, and with 3 toons generating granted levels, you probably wont miss out.

Yeah but when im all finished id be stuck with a 4 man team.

UGH! I might just have to run it with reg EXP and just use the free levels once I finally get to 60 :P

another option is to call blizzard and ask them to change it.

The Main->Slave arrangement you have only gives the triple exp when you level the group together, not boosting. It is certainly possible. Reading around here, it seems about the same play-time whether you boost or quest to 60. I'd go with that since it's already done.

I leveled a team to about 18 or 19, then did all LFG dungeons until they were in their low 40s. The dungeons available at that level then got a lot harder (Uldaman, Maraudon, etc). When you hit a wall like that, just take them out in the world and quest for a while. In the end, it will probably be faster than boosting at normal exp. When you're done, you'll have one full team at 60, and then can grant 240 levels down to your main.

Another benefit of the chain RAF method is the granted levels also count as earned for granting back. So Slave4 gives 30 levels up to Slave3. Then Slave3 has 30 levels to pass up to Slave2 for being 60, plus 15 levels for the 30 it was granted. Then Slave2 passes 30 for being 60, plus 24 for the 45 from Slave3, etc.
