I have one group were main focus is using pure AOE (at least on all non-boss mobs). The group consist of two priests casting Holy novas and two mages casting Arcane explosions.
Now which tank has best capability of trying to hold aggro of those slaves:
a paladin using consecration and righteous fury OR a death knight using frost presence and death'n'decay (with additional damage dnd glyph). Which of these two will generate highest aoe-threat?
Paladin. Their TPS is retardedly high unless you have a really, really geared bear.
+ pally is easier, since you don't have to click to cast like d'n'd.
+ holy wrath on UD's with the added holy nova bonus against UD's, you'll rip them apart :)
Something worth noting is that the bear is the best moving AoE, their swipe allows for really large AoE chain pulls, so if you are farming mobs I would choose a bear :D
Yes paladin is retarded easy AoE, but that is going to change in Cataclysm.
If that is the case, will paladin still be better than a death knight after cataclysm?Quote:

Causes an explosion of holy light around the caster, causing 28 to 32 Holy damage to all enemy targets within 10 yards and healing all party members within 10 yards for 52 to 60. These effects cause no threat.
Pally hands down... They're AOE tanking machines with concecration. Add the +2% threat enchant to gloves and pretty much nothing can be pulled off you. I always go balls out DPS never even come close to gaining aggro on my druid/boomkins.
They are not nerfing them at all when it comes to AE. They are bringing all tanks more AE tanking tools. I think a bear with be best in Cata based on the "mobile" AE ability they have and the new bleed effect being added to their ae targets.Quote:

WRONG!! Bear swipe hits all targets 360 degree around in bear form, pally drops consecration and it only does that spot, swipe hits as you move through the mobs, no mana issues etc, Bear is MUCH better against all mobs, pally might have an undead edge but I have both a pally tank and a druid tank both with the same gear level and I never use the pally for boosting, bear is just simply easier.Quote:

Which doesnt mean theyre nerfing your AOE awesomeness. it just means theyre buffing mobs (which i guess is indirectly the same thing, but its not like theyre removing swipe and consecration etc).

I also really wish they would bring back a requirement that you at least ran the dungeon in normal AT LEAST once, I loved the rep requirement in BC, it meant that people did not have the option to jump straight into an heroic, made gearing a little harder by in PUGs you knew people had a pretty good idea of the dungeon.

We're going to make sure warriors have reasonable crowd control. Redesigning Intimidating Shout is a likely candidate. I personally like that they are bringing back requirement for cc. Makes things more interesting, thought it can be done quite easily even while multiboxing. Use appropriate macro conditions and you can add castsequence in your normal click macro that takes care of your cc.
Large AoE pulls should be less frequent in Cataclysm.
Heroics were actually fun and truly challenging in early burning crusade because of the need for crowd control. I remember the nightmare that was heroic shattered halls (those 6 or 7 mob groups) with only a warrior tank! (Warrior tanks had pretty sub-par AoE tanking back then)
Let's face it: lack of content and lack of challenge is what brings boredom to running instances and of couse boxing at the same time. IMO There hasn't been really challenging encounters in wrath besides some of PoS and HoR. Of course under geared HoS encouter, etc. can give you trouble, but with easy T9 farming you should over gear that content in no time...
I would actually like if you should pause for a moment and setup cc targets for your group. Need to have at least 1 from trash group in sap, root, sheep, hex, etc. would bring more interesting aspect to your fights, rather than chain pulling as fast as you can.
