WOTLK - Heroic Occulus Ley Guardian

Easiest way to do this is take 4 ruby dragons and any color for your healer. When you get to the boss dismount your healer and have them stand by the loot chest. Have the 4 other toons flying on ruby dragons on follow in healing range of your healer. Once you engage the boss just spam Attack and Evade buttons. Have your healer heal whoever needs healing. If you need to rotate aggro manually with the whatever that spell is that aggro's the boss. When the phase balls thing starts just fly around the circle so you end up by your healer again. Rinse and repeat until he dies. Don't worry about the whelps they will die from your ruby attack aoe.

Having ISboxer really helps this fight. With keyclone my alts would not follow me and the FTL DPS buttons from ISboxer activate the vehicle attacks.

If you are using a "target the leader" system, then alts wouldnt follow indeed, using a focus based system, they follow just fine as long as you refocus after mounting up.
Before they nerfed the place (or buffed the drakes) i would it easiest to use the 2 red 3 green method from the wiki on this website, also did 5 bronze after getting my macros set up properly (2r3g was easier to set up and needed less practice).
But now, with some gear from heroics, it would probably be easy enough with truly 5 red and no unmounted, and no macros.

So I've had one of my teams one achievement away from Glory of the Hero for over 3 months. That acheivement is Ruby Void.

Any tips on how to do this well? 5 Ambers? 4 Ambers and 1 Emerald? 4 Ambers and healer dismounted below?

My avg gear score on that team is about 5600, so I would think any reasonable strategy would work. I've just been working on getting my 10-boxing raid teams set up for so long I've not put time and effort into this.

You dont need to fly around, use your drakes abilities.
Its a stupid easy encounter, no special macros or setup needed.

I found this posted on wowwiki today, seems fairly easy, and should be able to duplicate this rotation on any boxing platform, it's 5 Amber Drakes, total fight time is about 2 minutes...

I can't say for certain, but this attempt does look like individual players, not a boxer.

I believe the 5 Amber strat was nerfed a while back. That video is from almost a year ago and it looks like it was possible to keep him time-shifted the entire fight. I tried that recently and he built up immunity and started summoning lots of whelps.

But thanks for looking that up, I appreciate it. And if I'm somehow wrong on this and the strategy still works, please let me know!

Watched the video again, before the first banish phase, only 2 times stops were used, and Ley-Guardian fired off 2 shots on 1 of the drakes. This would work fine, as the diminishing returns are in affect, but he is only immune after every 3rd time stop, which resets after every banish.

My understanding of Temporal Vortex is that all damage done is increased by 100% per active beam on him, so with 4 beams more or less always active, that one Arcane Lance shot should do considerable damage, also the increased stacks from each time stop in place as well, which explains the speed of the kill.

I'm going to give this one a try in the next couple of days and see how it works out, just need to build some macro's to match the rotation I'm seeing. I've not attempted any other drake fights in Occ for quite some time, been raiding on my 6th account more lately, but I was able to get Amber Void and Ruby Void back in the day when you could kite him with 5 Emeralds, which has been fixed as of today with extreme range of the whelps...

Strategy still works fine. It's how I have always done it. It can be semi dependant on gear, as how much damage your drakes do is dependant on the ilvl of your toons items. For instance my druid group when they first started out with their sub 3k gs, it was a ridiculously close call. For my main group with everyone 5.5-6k gs, this fight takes a massive 40 seconds. For this encounter wear your highest level gear regardless of if it's actually good or not.

Basically you need 2 keys macrod (use bartender, or macaroon, or whatever)

We'll call these key A, and key B

key A:

/cast Shock Lance

Shock Lance - Instant - Deals 4822 to 5602 Arcane damage and detonates all Shock Charges on an enemy dragon. Damage is increased by 6525 for each charge detonated.

key B:

/cast Temporal RIft

Temporal Rift - Channeled - Channels a temporal rift on an enemy dragon for 10 sec. While trapped in the rift, all damage done to the target is increased by 100%. In addition, for every 15,000 damage done to a target affected by Temporal Rift, 1 Shock Charge is generated.

I personally simply manually click on each time stop myself. Alternately you could put it on a round robin key.

Time Stop - Instant - 1 min cooldown - Halts the passage of time, freezing all enemy dragons in place for 10 sec. This attack applies 5 Shock Charges to each affected target.



Pick two keybindings - let's say '<' and '>'

on your two highest geared characters, bind key A to '<' and B to '>'

on the other three characters, do the opposite, as in bind A to '>' and B to '<'

Basically when 2 of your guys (the two best geared to offset the damage difference a bit) are casting shock lance, you want the other three channeling temporal rift, and when two are channeling temporal rift, the other 3 will be casting shock lance.

Go target the Ley guardian. Smash on < until you see the dragon get 10 stacks of shock charges. Then switch to <, until you again see 10 stacks of shock charges, back and forth back and forth. During this time you are also using your time stops to make sure eregos does nothing. As soon as one time stop is up, use the next one. Idealy you do not want ot have to use more than 3 time stops on this phase, but 4 is still doable. If your characters are super geared, you'll normally use 2.

Once he's at 60%, he'll shift, and you just hit follow, then just run in a big circle to avoid the balls, and go back and target him, and repeat smashing on < till 10 stacks, then > till 10 stacks, all the while keeping him time stopped. If you used 4 time stops during the first phase, you might have to wait a bit on the cooldown after you use your first (fifth) time stop in phase 2. This is usally ok. When he's at 20 he phases again, and you run around in a circle, go back, and then finish him off smashing < til 10 stacks, > til 10 stacks, etc etc.

This is definitely the way to do this fight if your guys are geared - I'd say full tier9, if you're doing it any other way you're wasting time. If your gear is not good enough to reliably do enough damage here, so that you keep running out of time-stops, then use the full ruby/healer on the island strat.

sucks when you finally found your personal strat to win this instance, you never get it on random anymore. first time beat got a blue drake in the satchel though... sweet.

I use the ruby strat now myself and love it! One thing to remember- is break follow before engaging LeyGuardian, lol... If your master gets dismounted the whole crew will follow him down.

I got this instance yesterday on normal mode. Got wtf pwned by the layguardian.

I wipes 5 times, then teleported out of the instance. I guess I have to try some more.

Hopefully I won't get this instance again too soon hehe. But I guess the random dungeon finder will que me for this one until I beat it into submission. The rest of the instance is a joke on normal.

Maybe it's a bit easier for me since I outgear the place now but it isn't so bad with some practice. I didn't 1 shot it my first try either as I learned to correct small mistakes. Such as breaking follow before engaging Ley ;)

One thing about the Ruby Dragon strategy is my healer will bite it 80% of the time at some point in the fight. Something 1 shots him- I think a lot of it has to do where he's positioned. Put him back further on the platform last time and he lived!

Also thought about just using 5 rubies and forget the healing off the platform.. Takes a while for Ley to get through all your dragons health and the extra DPS seems like it'd be more advantageous. Usually when my healer dies I end up finishing him off with 2-3 dragons anyway.

Another thing is timing that phase shift correctly. If you hit 3 too early when he phases then it can be game over right there.

I finally got up the courage to try H Occ last night.. spent about 3 hours wiping on the ley guardian before calling it. Tried the 4x Ruby w/ dismounted healer, 5x ruby, and 2x ruby / 3 x emerald techniques. Am having some specific issues that I haven't seen addressed yet:

When I try the dedicated healer route, I'm having trouble targeting w/ the healer because my mouseover regions are on the toon names, so she just heals herself. I tried correcting by making a @targettarget healing wave macro to spam so she'll heal whichever drake the guardian has targeted. That worked somewhat, but I had no control over who was getting the heals, and then somebody would 2 shot the healer any way after she got a few heals off. -- Is there an opion in Vuhdo to show character vehicles? I'm at work now and can't go fooling with it at the moment.

When I try 5x ruby, spamming evasive maneuvers, and trying to rotate taunts so the max-HP toons are taking the majority of love, I had the most success, but still wiped at 10% on my best run.

With the mixed 2ruby/3emerald approach, My rubies all worked fine and did their job, but for some reason the macros (from the d-b wiki guide) weren't working on my emeralds, so they just stood there and picked their noses.. Do I have to go into keybindings in WoW and literally debind a bunch of stuff and re-bind? I'm hesitant to do this unless absolutely necessary just because I'm sure I'll rebind something uncorrectly afterward.. I'm using bartender4 and a logitech g15, so had my macros on the G keys, which really confuses me why the rubies would work and the emeralds wouldn't. I double and triple checked the macros on the emeralds to make sure there were no typos or inappropriate spell names.

I use vuhdo with repeater regions and when I click to heal my guys who are mounted it throws heals on them. Maybe try vuhdo if your current healing bars are not working. When I do this fight I constantly spam the dragons dps and evasive buttons. If a dragon gets really low I will taunt with another but using this strat they all stay pretty full health while I am healing them.

I'm using Vuhdo, so I wonder why mine isn't healing vehicles while your is. I'll check when I get home whether there's an option to heal target vehicles.. Otherwise I dunno.. Guess I'll try to find a safe place in the zone and fool around with it some more.

I use x perl unit frames and have targets of party and party pets up.

Then I use a 4 red 1 green Drake setup and lead with the green. I un bind my 2 key on the green Drake as you don't wanna spam that spel but you DO want to keep that buff up. Then I just spam my 1 2 and 3 keys for dps And dmg evasion. I use mY mouse to click whichever Drake needs healing and always keep a 3 stack of the life leech up on the boss. I haven't wiped once since switchin to this strat and I'd bet that u just need to get an addon to target the drakes better ie xperl or pit bull and you'll figure it out. Trying to do too much with macros when all you need is a better unit frame addon! :)

Only time the healer should be taking damage is when he does the arcane barrage that hits everyone. That only happens every 4th or 5th casting. You should have plenty of time to heal up before the next one. Im not sure what your group makeup is but when it comes to healing the drakes its super easy. The drakes have a built in Tenacity or something because my healers heals do double on drakes than they do on players. If you watch the vid on page one you will see my shamans healing totems double their heals when I jump on the drake.

UI mods and vehicles have had poor compatibility since day one. Sry to hear your mod makes things harder.

I use Healbot myself and for it all you do is turn on the pet checkbox. Then it shows both my team and each individual ruby dragon. Might give it a try. Also be sure to extend your mouse repeater regions over the new bars.

Maybe in VuhDo it's considered pets also? Not sure since I haven't used it before.

spent about 2 hours (2 full repairs) on this guy yesterday. my toons are ~3200-3500gs (dragon at 80-90k hp) with one being at 5000gs (122k hp)
I had no problem at all with the other bosses

What i've tried:
- 5 ruby: that seemed to work best, got him once down to 6%.
For some reason i always seem to get one of my toons dead early in fight. Probably because we can't use Evasion right away.
Apart from that, it's a game of attrition, and Eregos seems to outlast me at this point.
i spam the attack, and round robin the taunt+evasion.

- 4 ruby + dismounted healer:
my healer got hit for half his hp regularly, and died at the first phase shift. (a bubble i guess? how is that toon supposed to avoid them?)
Also the healer tried to follow the dragons and plummeted to his death once lol

- 1xruby 3xamber 1xemerald:
got the boss to ~15% with this group, but i have problem using the amber attacks correctly, and basically the main attack breaks the channeled one and therefore make it very weak.
I might try and macro a [nochanneling] somewhere in there.

Any other suggestions?
my fights take about 4min.

By far the easiest is 4 reds and a dismounted healer. Remember to take the healer off follow and to fly your group up to just within healing range. Save evasion for the astral shifts when he's within 15% of the shift times (60% and 20%) and you won't have to move your dragons at all. Heal your healer the second they get hit. You may have to use mana return tools midway through the fight (big mana return totem or hymn).

Are you healing using repeater regions Zub? Like with Healbot you can independently heal the drakes/team easily.

I have that problem of my healer getting 1 shotted by something mysterious every so often. Put your healer pretty far back and that seems to minimize it. Keep healing also just make sure everyone is topped off and save your evasion for the phase shift.

heh i always do 4 ruby 1 emerald, and just heal with the emerald. keep his debuff up and dot on the boss and just spam taunt evasion and keep everyone above 60% which is easily done... tho my toons do have 5k+ gs so that REALLY REALLY helps :)

Before they made drakes scale with gear (though i was probably around 4k gs at the time) I did both the 3+2 green/red strat from the wiki on this website, and with a bit more practice, did 5xAmber.

yeah i'm healing with repeater regions + grid/clique.
managed to do it on normal. haven't tried on heroic since >.<

I'm still having trouble getting my toons to fire at the same time. I don't think I have modified anything that would prevent this. I can get to the last boss just fine using the standard DPS keys, however when I mount up on the drakes and hit the "1" key the others do not react.
If I select mouse repeat, and select the attack key, they all attack.

What am I missing here..... ?

I'm trying to do the 4 ruby drake / healer dismounted tactic.
... is there a special setup that's needed when using vehicle attacks?

My video link is on the first page of this thread. Its easy to have the healer sit out on the island and heal. The drakes have a tenacity buff or something because heals do double what they should on them. I have not had the phase shift ever spawn a bubble for the healer. You can see in the vid 4 bubbles pop and stick to the drakes. Nothing ever hits the dismounted healer except for the barrage and where I was at, 4x healing totems were more than enough to keep her alive.

Im guessing if your drakes are not attacking, you are using some sort of /focus setup and you prolly need to refocus for it to work after mounting. In the vid you see me type out /assist sbjones into the console to get them all firing because my ui was out of date.

Try five amber drakes. Once you figure it out, you'll never bother doing it any other way - it's by far the simplest and safest, as nobody EVER dies, and it's the fastest. Check first page for my writeup on it.

Ok, I finally was able to do this today (Heroic)
....after finally sending my ISboxer config file over to Lax, we determined that there was a misconfigured setting that was interfering with sending the command to the other toons.

In a little over 3min I downed Ley using the dismounted healer tactic and we all got the "Amber Void" & "Emerald Void" achievements too! :)

if you're after the ruby void achievement, 5xamber is quite doable, and a much quicker kill (~2min )
here's how i have it set up (also see Jimbob's strategy on page 1 of this thread):
Toon 1 and 3 rotate with toon 2 and 4. toon 5 can be in either group, or have a different drake altogether if he needs the 'experienced drake rider' achievement.
- keybindings on toon 1 and 3: [F4] for spell 1 (shoot), [F5] for spell 2 (stun), [F1] for spell 3 (beam)
- keybindings on toon 2 and 4: [F2] for spell 1 (shoot), [F6] for spell 2 (stun), [F3] for spell 3 (beam)

line all the drakes, and then press the function keys in this order:
1 2 2 2 3 4 5
1 2 2 2 3 4 6
just make sure you do enough '2' to get 10 stacks of the debuff on eregos.

basically that will make 2 drakes beam (F1) while 2 shoot and build charges (F2), then those 2 drakes will stop shooting and start beaming (F3) at which point the first drakes unload their charges (F4). then stun (F5) as the whelps are about to come out.
At this point you should be in the first planar phase (~60%), run away :-) If you didnt get whelps before the planar phase, keep your stun to start off phase 2.
repeat but use your second stun this time (F6) .
just make sure you see the beams go off correctly when you press F1 and F3, as sometimes the drakes could be busy firing and not start the beam


As stated in a previous post, if you get whelps before the second planar phase, it's likely to be a wipe

I finally got the "Ruby Void" accomplishment after wiping 3 times. Two wipes last night and 1 today, but the 4th attempt was a charm.

Basically I followed Jimbobobb & Zub's suggestions for this and once I got things setup in ISboxer, it went well. My team is really not that well geared (5.1k, 4.5k, 4.5k, 4.5k & 4.9k) but with my druid buffing the other 4 drakes, maybe that helped a little :)

Yea i did it lol. Found the pet bars and was able to heal dps for the win. All i need is ruby void.

I'm going after "Make it Count" and followed Zub's strat, but used a Red Drake for my 5th toon. I also put the Stun on F5 for everyone and did a round-robin for it in ISBoxer. Was able to kill Eregos in about 90 seconds. The Ruby Drake is nice in case any whelps spawn. Here is the macro I used for the Ruby:

/target Ley-Guard
/target Greater
/cast [target=harm, exists, nodead] Searing Wrath
/stopmacro [target=harm, exists, nodead]
/target Ley-Guard
/cast Searing Wrath

I put this macro on F1 through F5.
