Need ideas to solve DPS problem

3 Elemental Shamans, have nearly everything I believe I could use from Triumph badges or lower (though I am considering getting www.wowhead.com/?item=Hood of Smoldering Aftermath )

My problem is that I just can't seem to figure out how to get above 4k DPS in a raid. I know I'm not missing bosses based on my Recount results, but I also know that I'm seeing partial resists at times. In heroics I can blow cooldowns and get to 5.8k DPS.

A lot of people advertise numbers like 5k dps or 8k dps.
It depends on what they are measuring.

I would take 4k sustained dps, for an entire raid.
Over 3k sustained dps, with a 9k burst on the boss.
Chances are the 4k sustained, is more then the 3k sustained even on the boss fight.

I've seen rogues on my server advertise their gear score, and that they do 10k dps.
There is no way in hell, a rogue will run a 2 hour raid, and have 10k sustained dps for the whole thing.
However with cooldowns blown for everyone in the raid, in certain fights with low mobility etc, I could see incredible numbers; not likely to have close to that, in a fight which forces a ton of movement and target switches.
But every class has something they're good at. A mage/warlock/boomkin might have amazing dps numbers for massive AoE pulls.

DPS really depends on what the measurement is.
The last/important boss fight.
Or the entire run.

Hate to burst your bubble but I just ran ICC10 and the fury warrior in it did 13k over the WHOLE raid. So my shaman are feeling a bit insecure at the moment. Granted there are opportunities for massive AoE, but it's offset by single target boss fights. Made me want to dual spec my warrior, lol.

I have my Recount set to show the DPS per fight only. My boss DPS runs just over 4k, maybe as high as 5k but that's way outside the norm. Thing is, those number have not changed hardly at all after a good bit of gearing. Just starting to run out of ideas.

What are you using, as far as the dps macro for the shammies?
Which totems are you using?
Which glyphs?

Not sure if there's anything there, but maybe.

No comprehensive macros really. CL and LB are on independant keys so I can mix as necessary. I tend to weave CL in either 1st or 2nd after LvB, depending on my distance to the target so I can be certain that Clearcasting goes off.

The only routine macro I have is for FS/LvB (note that I have 4pc T9)

I also use this next macro for burndowns, usually stacking it with Bloodlust for certain bosses where I know I can stand still and spamcast.

Stacking that macro with BL, I pull 5k to 5.8k DPS on a few heroic bosses, but that is very, very rare. Usually it's more like 4k.

Glyphs are ToW, LB, FS.

Totems are as follows
Shaman 1 - Stoneskin, ToW, Mana Spring, Nature Res
Shaman 2 - Strength of Earth, ToW, Healing Stream, Wrath of Air
Shaman 3 - Tremor, ToW, Cleansing, Windfury

I'd consider the shammies going to a "click" macro.

The click will want to push three castsequences, and a normal cast.
The first sequence is Flame Shock, the second is Lava Burst, the third is Chain Lightning.
The normal cast (last) is Lightning Bolt.
It will ideally automatically cast Elemental Mastery and use your trinkets.

Flame Shock dot duration is 18 seconds.
Lava Burst is every 8 seconds.
Chain Lightning is every 3.5 seconds.
Lightning Bolt is every GCD.

Spam a key, repeatedly (ideally 2-10x per second) at a speed you can comfortably maintain for an entire raid.
Spam the key in word or notepad, for 10 seconds.
Then count the number of keystrokes and divide by 10.
This is your spam speed per second.

Now you will want a comma ( , ) per your spam speed, for every second of duration/recast delay.
So if you spam at 3 clicks per second, Flame Shock will have (18x3 = 54 commas).
If your spam speed is 2.4 clicks per second, Lava Burst will have (8x2.4 = 19.2 = 19 commas).
Etc... for Chain Lightning.

Valid "click" targets are....
/Click MultiBarBottomLeft........... The horizontal bottom left bar
/Click MultiBarBottomRight......... The horizontal bottom right bar
/Click MultiBarRight.................... The further right vertical bar
/Click MultiBarLeft...................... The further left vertical bar

And then Button1 through Button12

So create your Flame Shock macro.
I'll assume 2 clicks per second.
18 second duration.
(18 x 2 = 36 commas)
Macro 1 is:

Make the Lava Burst macro the same, except for the correct number of commas for an 8 second recast delay.
Chain Lightning has commas for a 3.5 second delay.
Lightning Bolt can be the spell straight from the spell book, if you have an FTL system.
Otherwise it will need an assist option, depending on your set up.

Your "Click" spam button, will be on say "1" or "2".
You'll mash this button as your typical spam speed.
It will call your four other macros.

Talisman of resurgance is bad, try farminng toc 5(non heroic) for abyssal rune. Replace the sp/mp5 gem in your shoulcer with 23sp and the 30 sta in leg with sp/sta, although this is extremely minor. Get the emblem of triumph relic, and don't worry about getting the emblem of frost one since it's a very minor upgrade and those emblems are better spent elsewhere.

You're probably not hitting your rotation properly. Keep up flame shock, cast lava burst every cooldown, cast chain lightning if it'll hit more than one thing, cast lightning bolt. Mash keys, don't wait until you see you're done casting. If you're boxing your cooldowns between chars are probably getting desynced thus lowering your dps.

Most of the time dps is quoted for single target dps to bosses while raid buffed, that's counting cooldowns but with fights long enough that they won't be up the whole time.

Yes Resurgance is bad, but it was the best thing I've been able to get my hands on yet to stack with Elemental Mastery for burst (that may be bad too, I simply don't know). But why in the world would you recommend getting the Triumph relic?! Even I know that Hex is still the better relic, and yes I've run my own Rawr calculations multiple times to confirm that.

I'm always mashing cast keys with about 0.5 sec remaining (which is more than my estimated latency as displayed with AzCastBar).

I've been known to cast Chain Lightning even if it would only hit one thing, provided that I have Clearcasting up, as I understand it to be a net DPS gain because of the cast time. If I'm wrong on that I need to know.

Lava Bursting every cooldown, and I keep casting LB until it is completely off cooldown rather than waiting 0.5 sec for it to come up. On most boss fights, LB accounts for 70% to 80% of my total dmg done.

According to Rawr 2.35 your dps should be 4.2k selfbuffed

This tool is really helpful to avoid frustration, simply give the number you can really get :o

Rawr is an object of religious fervor, though it's calculated max dps may not be reasonable, depending on which module it is. Feral spec for example assumes 100% uptime on all bleeds and debuffs (no startup time) and assumes that all combo points not used for maintaining savage roar and rip are used for 5 point ferocious bites, which isn't achievable in even practice dummy cases. I don't know how accurate the elemental module is, but beware that Rawr does have limitations, historically trinket proc handling is also a weakness.

Though if you're getting reasonable close to what rawr says you should be (make sure the selected buffs and talents match actual) then you're doing well, then start using Rawr and other resources to target upgrades. Hell, even bringing in another buff (like the LW-based gift of the wild buff) can be a substantial boost.
