Running old instances profitable?

To take a break away from the boosting I ran stratholme last night with my 5x 80 team for the achievement. It didn't take that long to complete (about an hour i guess, took a smoke break or 2 and 1 recovery break from the stuff i was smoking in between). Anyways, I looted off all corpses. Placed all the stuff worth something on AH, sold the rest to the vendor. All sb blues were sold to vendor as well (can't disenchant that yet) and went to bed. Just woke up to find a nice 400 gold in my mailbox from AH sales. With what i've sold to the vendor and what's left on the AH, thats about 6-700 gold in total. When my dailies are done, no way i can make that amount of gold so easy in about an hour.

My point is: all drops in level 30-60 range seem to sell way better than outland+ greens/blues. On my server it's like instant sell vs a week or 2 sell/no sell. In the end i prefer to sell 10 items for 4 gold each instead of 1 peace for 40g.

That being said i was curious about other opinions/experiences. Which non endgame instance is the most rewarding to farm, .. etc.

It gives some nice gold, but there are better ways. like dailes and possibly even lvl 80 dungeons might reward more.

If you have an enchanter, BC dungeons are a good gold source - DE everything and sell the mats, cloth, and rep items, and convert the badges into stuff you can DE or sell (primal nether). I did some sightseeing on my team, did about 3/4 of BC's dungeons (thank god you get credit for normal doing Heroic). Magister's Terrace is a good, fast, easy badge run, with a chance at the Phoenix and lots of purps to DE.

You really need to be in tune with your market for DE'ing old instances.

That said, I find Kara pretty profitable (zomg cloth), but damn thats a lot of looting if your doing full clear.

Its really nice if you have 70 twinks or friends with twinks since you can get the seas/tier items there and obviously roll over Mag for the chest token for them as well as some tokens.

ZA is a good place as well for that, is quite profitable for the time spent. The items there look pretty bad ass as well.

When you clear a dungeon on Heroic, without clearing it on normal first, you get the Heroic AND the normal achievement. That way, you don't have to waste time on normal mode.

Ah oki. I was a bit confused with 'credit' and the afore mentioned 'badges'. Currently i don't see any use in achievements for myself however. Afaik they don't kill for me or give me gear :P

I`m running a weekly kara, loots are around 600g (gold pickups and greys). I`m DEìng greens and purples.

Besides that I do 8easymode pvp dailies with 10 chars. Takes 30minutes to get 800g that way.

Farming old instances are always profitable, I love farming MC, the old world mats and rep items that you can farm from there are awesome. The epic pattern drops also sell for lots of gold since a lot of people have the "gotta get them all" attitude with them.

Is it btw possible to 5 box classic raid content @ lvl 80?

BWL and AQ40 most likely no, the first boss encounters in each are impossible.

BWL and AQ40 are the only ones I miss. The rest was all relatively easy, all 5-boxed, Paladin+4xShamans, even though my gear was by far less good than what I have now.

Actually, I even tried BWL with another 5-boxer (10 characters in totam), and we failed miserably.

By checking my armory link, I realised that I basically didn't touch BC instances with that group. I should give them a try.

I believe BWL is 5boxable and AQ40 also exept the last 2 bosses. Tho that is just what I`ve heard and thinnk. Haven`t tryed myself.

If you have a prot pala try doing whole of raparts trash in one pull and DE the greens. Some greens DE into 3 lesser essence which make a big. Those go for up to 30g on my server.

I was able to full clear + loot everything in ~ 12 mins in ramparts on my ret pally before. With a 4 box team like retadins you could do this faster. Each run nets about 50 gold in greys + silver, and you get rune/netherweave cloth + 3 blues to DE and some greens to sell. You can easily make 500g an hour vendoring crap.

You could also try this sort of thing with normal mode lvl 70-75 dungeons. there are a lot of mobs in nexus but i dont think you could get as many runs.

Stratholme is GREAT money. Period. If you chain pull (or grab everything on a prot pally) and AOE it all down, you can easily get 500-1000g an hour. On my server runecloth is 10g per stack. You can easily get upwards to 12 stacks per run + greens + trash + silver, if you decide to do bosses you can get some decent de mats that sell for 5-10g each.

Also if you have a multi-box team and want to make some decent money. Head up to black temple's right side with all of the demon hunters. There is an elite but it's no biggie. Nice silver, TONS of netherweave and rep items. I did this in BC with a 3 mage team and it was gold heaven when not farming cobra scales. Netherweave and runecloth are both very profitable as you need ~ 37 stacks of each to power level tailoring. If you have a tailor you can make netherweave bags. These sell for 7 to 15 gold per on most servers (they do sell too, most people grab these for alts). You can get enough cloth for upwards to 50 in an hour if you are lucky.

Speed and amount of runs > higher loot IMO.

If you want to make GREAT money you can do as follows. Go to a place with LOTS of skinable mobs who are not neutral or if you have a prot pally and can drop conc neutral is fine. If your groups are 10-15 mobs each you can get about 15 stacks of heavy borean worth of borean leather. This can be turned into 10-15 arctic fur (sell for 50-75g depending on server still). Theres also trash drops for about 11 silver each, so you make about 60 gold an hour just from that. Then you have greens or possible epics (depending on area) so thats about another 25ish gold average from greens or more depending on area and if you have an enchanter. Leatherworking doubles this almost as leg armors sell well and range from 150-200g. You can make upwards to 1,000 gold an hour this way, and if you have leg armors you can sell 10 in a day easily especially if it is a hot raid night (tuesday, wednesday, saturday)

@Zenga: There was a boxer on illidan who use to run Tempest Keep with just his 5 shaman + 2 tank friends to attempt to get pheonix mounts... So 5 boxing oldworld raid content is possible. Especially bosses like lootreaver, kara, etc. You must be talking about the 40 man raids. I think MC would be boxable but i doubt that BWL would unless you know the encounters and have good control over your characters. There is no more Oni @ 60 (which was soloable 300g per week) or 40 man naxx. ZG is def boxable... i mean i cleared it with 2 people (DK + disc priest) some bosses just took a bit of time due to lack of dps but they all fell. Aq20 is 5 boxable, i know this because the same boxer use to do it for fun some times and he was able to do the first two bosses in Aq40 without much problem.

Normally i see 5-7 greens drop in there per run. On my server Arcane Dust sells for 4g each, lesser planar sell for 3g each, and greater planar sell for 15g each. That adds a lot to the pot.

I could've sworn somebody posted here that they were able to clear the first boss of bwl with their 5box team. And another person merely recruited someone for the orb.

BWL:
First boss you need a toon to control the orb and kill all of the eggs in the first room. During this time have your entire group bunch up by the orb and your tank grabbing ALL of the adds while killing the casters that spawn non stop. The mobs are easily downed but it will take some work.

You can also try and have your tank tank everything at once and skip the egg phase, I havn't tried this but it is worth a shot. Put on a fire resist aura if possible. The boss has a conflag attack that will disorient everyone it hits and deal fire damage.

If you get by this phase good job.

Second boss is even more of a pain, during the fight the boss will blow up your toons causing an instant death which cannot be escaped except maybe pally bubble. Spread out your toons to avoid blowing each other up. Heroism/Bloodlust immediatly.
Stay away from the tail if you are using a melee group.

Suppression room is annoying if you dont have a rogue in your group.

The goblins and wipe your group quickly if they are bunched up so spread out

All bosses up to Chromag are just tank and spank and easily taken down.

This fight will be the most annoying if you do not have anyone to remove the debuffs, this is all your toons will be doing the entire fight, if you dont they will turn into a dragonkin and kill your group.

AQ40 The first boss alone will be a challenge, It will MC 3 of the toons closest to it when it splits.

Everything up to the twin emps may be easy, just need to abolish a lot of poison.

Sadly I don't remember too much about this instance, my old guild fell apart during the triplets fight one night. :'(

Enjoy the mounts which drop like candy from this instance. :P
