Kill quests only overview?

I reached the point this afternoon where I was about to throw my machine through the window. However, thinking about the bill changed my mind quickly. Long story short:

- I levelled up with one of those (commercial) guides that tell you where to go, what to kill, ... basically what to do, by means of an ingame waypoint.
- From 1-60 i could skip collection quests and still follow that guide due to the raf xp that kept me on par or even ahead of the guide.
- Once 60+ I'm 3-4 levels behind due to skipping collection quests and missing (annoying) quest chains. No problem as with a 5 man team I can kill mobs above my level without any problem.

My main is 67,5 and my 4 shammies 66,10. It was time to move to Area 52. And there i got frustrated: only my main could accept the quests, my others were too low. So ...

I was pretty annoyed with this guide for a while. But mainly due to the lack of an alternative (that I know) I just continued using it. But now I decided I want to control my quests myself from now on. Though I still want to use the waypoint, so that means questhelper.

And here I got frustrated again. I couldn't remember which ones I've done, where I left a certain quest chain, etc etc ... it was one big mess. Thottbot, wowhead, etc ... basically any site I could find, will list all quests in a certain area. But it's up to you to find out which ones you have done, what the prerequisites are, and to which quest chain it belongs. And reading all user comments is not what you want to do for every quest. i.e. a very tedious job

What I basically want is an overview like this:

Quest name:
Req: level:
Level of mobs:
Part of a chain: yes / no
Quest you should've finished before you can accept these:
Quest type: kill - escort - talk to - collection - ....

As efficiency is one of the reasons i multibox, I want to play the game and not solve a puzzle :P

So here my questions:
- Is there a site with an overview like this? If yes, would you please be so kind to tell me?
- Is there another tool/approach that works better?
- How do other multiboxers handle this? I can imagine after levelling up toon 20 you know what to do and where to go, but how about your first toons?
- If there is not such an overview, is there a (public) database / api I can use to extract the quest data I want (with my own app) to make such an overview myself?

60-80 we all pretty much skip gather quests still. Run instances when possible or skipping from zone to zone. Also doing AV for exp is good too.

You can search for quests, and see if they're chains or not on both thottbot and wowhead.
I don't think either will be in the format you want.

Coming soon (not sure if in 3.3 or in Cataclysm) you'll be able to see where each toon is, for quest progression with every quest available in the zone. So that will at least let you know which ones the other toons need to catch up (google the quest, refer to the quest chain on whichever site comes up).



If your composition will allow instance runs, that's an alternative to have the team catch up... to the minimum level to take quests in the new area. Running BG's, is also an alternative, if your team is in the same level bracket; even if they're not, you can run the lowbies alone to level them a bit.



I pretty much follow the Brian Kopp alliance (have the Joanna/Mancow horde version) for 1-70. Alliance side, there aren't too many collections, so I just do them all. Although I haven't done 1-60 without RAF as a team. 60-70 three times since starting to box 5 toons, so have five sets at 70+. Only two sets at or close to 80 though.

As I'm still in my first wow days, I don't feel very comfortable in an instance yet :P Nor in any pvp related situations. Basically I wanna hit 80 asap, and i think that questing is for me the fastest. Must add that I've converted my macro's to click today and that my dps / threat management increased a lot. So instancing should go smoother (instead of taking 5 wipes each run).

Anyway, decided to make one for myself. Made myself a scraper that collects the info from thottbot & wowhead as we speak. At least I 'm now able to query the data for myself from my own database. Once complete I might post it in the wiki.But that won't be before my 2nd team hits 80 as I want to go through the whole thing again from scratch.

I usually do collection quests if they:
1 - provide a gear upgrade
2 - lead to another quest that provides a gear upgrade
3 - provide a rep increase of a faction I want (which usually means access to better gear / enchants)

IMO - upgrading gear is one of the most important parts of levelling, since it effectively allows you to power through kill quests faster and makes instances feasible / faster. This is especially true when moving into Outland or Northrend for the first time, where the gear jump is substantial.

That makes only sense stealthy, but ... you either have all the quests in your head or you need to puzzle/search a lot, which shows imo the need for such a 'guide'.

Repeating what most folks have said: I used the 1-60 RAF guide that is posted on this site which is supposed to be easier for multibox and skips most useless collection quests(sorry I forget the name) and once at outland I kept using the default Tourguide/Jame's leveling guide. I have the lightheaded addon which accesses wowhead right from the quest window so I would take a collection quest and see if it lead anywhere useful or if it had good gear. Unfortunately, getting to Northrend I've found that collection quests are pretty hard to skip and so I just sucked it up and resolved to do the zone achievements for Loremaster.

I have levelled several teams 60-80 now so will give my thoughts. Dont skip all collection quests imo just the ones the involve killing someone ie in HFP do the quests picking up metal and wood but skip the blood one.

If you know that you are going to be grinding a certain mob that drops a kill reward you may as well do the quests even if you just do it on one toon - you can cycle who gets the kill reward so all your toons stay roughly level. eg I like to aoe down the buzzards in HFP but I am not going to go out of my way to make sure I collect all the feathers on all of my toons. I may collect on toons 1-3 then next kill quest eg Naga claws I will get on toons 4,5.

I definately recommend AV to fill in between quests. Its good XP breaks up the monotony and teaches you new tricks without feeling you are letting the team down for poor perfomance. I did not bother with instances 60-80 for my alt teams though.

Took your advice and waiting in the AV queue atm. No clue whats gonna happen, but see that when I get there :P

Hahaha the AV tip was a pure win. What a rush. I had no clue what i was doing, but whenever i saw a red mob i attacked it/him/her like a mofo. This is def. the most fun way to level up, no clue how much xp i got though :P

AV runs ? Is that still true ?

I spent 3 full levels, from 75 to 78 with my all-Mages team constantly on queue for AV, and didn't get in once. NOT ONE SINGLE TIME in three levels. I was told here that this was due to recent BG changes.

The AV changes havent affected me getting into an AV but the xp is lower than before - I guess its gonna depend on your battlegroup.

The exp's is roughly half what it was.
But its still a good option for leveling.

If you skip a bunch of collection quests, you could run out of quests in a given zone.
But between instance runs or battlegrounds, you can level up to where you get quests in the next zone.

And both instances or battlegrounds can be a primary leveling method too.

AV exp. is decent and the honor gains will pay off for quick level 80 gear.

In regards to collection quest I did not do any unless it was an important quest chain or item until I hit Northrend. I did all the collection quest in Northrend for Rep and because there are so many quest that need to be unlocked.

I've done 6 AV's today and gained between 30-45k xp per round at lvl 66 (on RT), which equals completing about 20 quests for me. With the waiting times on my server it's definitely slower than just questing, but a mix between both should boost my xp.

It is a change of pace, which even if it were 10% of the pace of questing, would be decent.
It's a game, so we play for having fun. If BG's are fun, that's good enough for me.

I like that you can skip some quests, move on to the next area.
And still be at (or about) where you would have been, if you had done everything.
BG's and instances give that to us.
