AOE targetting

I have searched through the forums without success on this topic. I have read a few threads but none seem to have the answer I need. I basically want to be able to target an AoE spell like Blizzard on my slave from my main. I software box and right now I just go to the individual toon and do the targetting manually.

I use keyclone and would prefer to continue to use it. Is there is a way to target an AoE on my slave from my main? How do you do it? If not, then what is the best method?

Keyclone has a toggle button to allow you to pass your next mouse click. So you would press the button to initiate the spell cast, then you click the button to toggle clicking, then click on your main where you want the click to be on your alt, then untoggle mouse broadcasting.

Cool. I saw the checkbox that allows this in keyclone. But I didn't understand how it worked or what toggle key to press. Thanks for the info.

On second thought that seems to be a lot of work for something simple. Is there a way to toggle the check box using a button dedicated to it?

Yes you setup a keybind for the toggle (in the KC interface, i dont recall where).

Other things of note: your camera view is important. If your mage isnt looking at the same place as your main, the blizzard could end up weird. Will have to play with it.

Also, last time I used this, KC basically PiP switched to each screen to broadcast the mouse click so there was a bit of a delay in using the ability and actually being able to control your people. It may or may not be like that anymore.

In Keybindings, you can set something to save camera view.
There are four or five different camera views.
Basically pick one, doesn't matter which, and assign a hotkey to it.
Pick the same view number on each toon.

Now select your AoE view of choice.
Try to get the same angle and zoom distance on each account.
When they're as close as possible, press your hotkey to save the view.
Repeat for each account.

You can go back into keybindings and unbind the key to save that specific view.
You might need to log out, for it to write your settings to the config file.
If you crash or Alt F4 or red X to exit the game, you won't have settings saved.

Next you want to pick a Keyclone hotkey for AoE clicks.
I believe the option is called, send next click, or something very similar.

In WoW, you want to put a macro on this same keybind.
So when you press the key, it activates the wow macro and also the keyclone send next click.
Your wow macro will be similar to this:

#show Hurricane
/Script SetView(4);SetView(4)
/Cast Hurricane

Change Hurricane to the ground target spell of choice.
Change the (4) in SetView to the View you have saved.

The doubling of the SetView command tells wow to switch to that saved view instantly.
A single SetView command will slowly zoom to the chosen view.

Keyclone is not perfect for mouse broadcasting, but it gets the job done.
The Hurricane's probably won't overlap exactly, but they'll be close.
For PvEing down a pack of mobs, you can position the toons and then click the macro to open.
For PvP, you won't likely have the time to do this perfectly, but it still works decently.

I believe HKN can do mouse broadcasting fairly well.
I have recently switched to Inner Space from Keyclone, and know the broadcast works very well. Plus you can set any hotkey or click to broadcast not just a specific one. My druids broadcast Hurricane on 5 and Force of Nature on 4. With Keyclone, you'd pick to broadcast one or the other.

Edit your config-cache.wtf file. Keep in mind A is view 2 I think (its off by one as one is default). This way you are sure to have the absolute same view on all. Then you make your macro as stated above.

Im able to put down 6 blizzards on the same spot in AV lol its a hoot, but my setup allows me to move a mouse on six computers to the same spot, if the views are the same on each.

Thank you Sam and Ualaa for your kind responses. Although originally I follwed Ualaa's suggestion it can be improved a bit. My party has mixed casters. There are times I need both the warlock and mage to put down an AoE. For both of them to put the targetting reticle on the same spot while in a formation other than a dot (line, square, diamond, semicircle, etc..) seems difficult to do at the moment. Do I have have to setup a camera view and zoom based on each toons position in a formation? I can see the number of combinations becoming very cumbersome. My understanding is that the reticles position is based largely in part of the camera view. There is probably a way to script the camera view of the slaves to use the mains position. I have some experimenting to do. Any suggestions will be entertained. I know I will run into hurdles :)

Honestly, the easiest answer is to move to either HKN or IS.
Either program has very strong mouse broadcasting.

I've never used HKN, but have seen a lot of posters mention using it specifically for the broadcasting.

With InnerSpace, you can set any given hotkey to activate mouse broadcasting for the next click.
On my druid team, any one of them can press 4, and I'll have a mouse circle on every screen.
Each screen is rendered at full size, even if the slaves are scaled downwards.
Even though the AoE circles aren't exactly the same (due to different toon positions from follow etc), they're close enough for AoE.
Similarly, I can press my 5 key for Hurricane.

Or I can turn on complete mouse broadcasting (called mouse repeater), and click on macro's such as my daily macro key.
With Keyclone, I'd have all toons type "/use Rod of Siphoning".
With IS, I turn on mouse broadcasting and click the action bar button, which is the same position on each toon.

I can click portals and have each toon portal to SW from Dalaran at once.
It is accurate enough to respec 4 shammies at once (pick talents via mouse broadcasting).

I agree I may have to move to another program such as InnerSpace. But I am trying not to have many 3rd party software or addons because they break from patch to patch. Also I believe keyclone is the only approved braodcaster (I could be wrong here) so I am a bit concerned about IS, ***********, ISboxer, HKN and any other programs that mimick hardware key cloneing. Anyway I find it fun to tinker with my interface and to write macros. The more I write the more understand. Anyway I could go on...

This is the method I use, I'm not sure if anyone else does the same.

I AoE target by first increasing the max camera distance so that, when you're viewing your characters directly from above, you can "see" the ground at maximum ground-target range. I don't recall the exact number, but you can tweak it by typing ;

Replace the "30" with whatever number suits your purpose. You can add this macro into something like your /follow command, or your party invite hotkey to enable this max zoom distance by default. The script doesn't actually change the camera view at all to begin with. It increases the amount you can zoom out, but there is no noticable difference unless you then actively zoom out.

Next, you need to make two hotkeys. First, find a comfortable standard viewing angle/distance and save that as your default view by typing "/script SaveView(2)", without quotation marks. You can use this saved view to quickly switch back to a more comfortable viewing angle after you've cast your spell. Second, move the camera directly above your character's head and zoom out to max distance, then save this camera view by typing "/script SaveView(3)".

You can then create a macro for your chosen AoE spell and add the following line - "/script SetView(3); SetView(3)".

Ie:

Then use any of the software boxing tools available to broadcast your subsequent click. Because all of your alts have the same camera distance, the same camera angle and should be facing the same direction, AoE targeting is generally quite accurate. Obviously, if your characters aren't properly stacked or have been feared and are in different locations, it won't be perfect.

I'm at work at the moment and don't have access to my WoW macros, so this is all from memory. Some of the scripts might not be spot on, but you should be able to google the camera API scripts if I got them wrong.

I'd like to clarify that KeyClone was "approved" by a GM well before any of it's current functionality was implemented. The version that received this blessing no longer functions at all and only the new version with lots of unblessed features functions. The other portion of your statement about other software that mimicks hardware key cloning is amusing, as that's exactly what all multicasters do.

As a note about 3rd party software breaking patch to patch, most if not all of these applications are patch agnostic because they don't work within the game, they work outside of the game and it would take a major change in Windows API to break them.

In my experience if you want mouse broadcasting you have three choices...

KeyClone - Retail Product. Works but slow, not viable in intense combat. Actually drives mouse from screen to screen to send clicks.
AHK - Free Beta Product. Works fairly reliably but wasn't 100% in the testing I did.
InnerSpace - Retail Prodcut. Works, 100% accurate, reliable, fast. Able to setup "zones" of your screen that automatically turn on broadcasting for you (for click heals, etc) or bind a "broadcast next click" action to your AE spell hotkey so it works as flawlessly as you can possibly imagine.
GCP - Retail Product. I haven't tested this but believe it can do it as well.

I think zanthor means HKN not AHK ;)
But other than that I would second his opinion.
My personal rating for Mousecasting would be: IS > HKN > Keyclone
And if it would only be for mouse-broadcastin and PiP-Switching (and I wouldn't love HKN for other features) I would switch form HKN to IS....

@ Drommon - I would really encourage you to consider ISBoxer for AOE targetting ... it is the only tool I know of (apart from full hardware boxing) that allows you to see your ground target move on all toons AS YOU MOVE YOUR MOUSE. I've used keyclone, HKN, and switched to ISBoxer exactly for this reason.

When I am zoomed out on all my toons, even if they have different view angles, ISBoxer allows me to drop 3x blizzrds very precisely, because I can see the ground target move on my slaves as i move the mouse on my main.

Keyclone and HKN do not currently offer true mouse broadcasting as some claim, only "mouse-click" broadcasting - this is one of the major advantages of ISBoxer. I think you may find it worth your while to try it.

I did get InnerSpace and I now use ISboxer along with keyclone. I agree with Zanthor on his comment in regards to key clone "mimcking". I am going to set up IS to do mouse broadcasting. I guess my concerns about these programs being in the grey area in regards to ToS and EULA are unwarranted. But you know I got by with just keyclone and manually placing the targetting reticle for 6 months. It is just now that I am wanting mouse broadcasting because I am looking for more functionality and also I cleaned up and made more efficient in the way I used my toons abilities. Anyway I am glad someone found my post amusing because it didn't make any sense that keyclone was blessed and the other key mimicers were not. Again, thanks all for the input.

for some reason, when i start to cast an aoe, the target circle is off the screen on my alt screens. When i turn on mouse broadcasting, the circle is not where the mouse pointer is. I have to STILL go to each screen and move the circle to the spot. ( keyclone btw) So the target circle is NOT following the mouse clcik box on the alt screens.

Pretty sure with Keyclone, the mouse is where it was last positioned, when that window was active/hot.
You could go to each window in turn, position the mouse in the middle of the screen, and then PiP swap via keyboard hotkey.
It should fix this issue.

Keyclone is not a very reliable mouse broadcasting option - there are better options.
It is the easiest keyboard broadcaster to set up.
Well other programs have wizards too, so I have to qualify that statement.
With Keyclone, we run the wizard and it runs as expected - press a key and it is broadcast.
With IS, we run the wizard, which has a lot more options (more powerful software), but Keymaps vs Repeating takes a bit of time to understand, and advanced features like clickboxer or repeater regions require additional reading.
I have no experience with others boxing software, so cannot comment beyond these two.

I tried ISboxer today ( i used it for EQ2 ) but I'm not sure if it was conflicting with my addons or what. I had many issues, broadcasting was screwy, my toggle to turn repeater on and off would not work for example. And my alt screens were all messed up graphically ( blurry text and such )

I used the wizard at first and then used the guide to do it all manually, neither ever worked right for me. I will get back at it when i have more time.

I'm not overly familiar with InnerSpace with EQ2.
With warcraft, it seems to run fine.

I can give a basic idea of how ISBoxer is supposed to work.
And you might get something from that.

I know there are a few options, which you need to check if you're running EQ2 or LotR Online.
When you go through the wizard, ensure those options are checked.

If you go into ISBoxer Toolkit.
On the top, navigate to Keymaps, open that menu and click on Control Keymaps.
On the left, open them up and select "Activate Keymaps".
Ensure your hotkey is whatever you think it is.
On the left, click on the + to expand your options.
Step 1 should turn General Key Map On for All.
And FTL DPS on for all.
By default it gives a Popup Text message.
I've modified mine to display quite a bit longer, just so I know if something is on or off.
I actually changed my hotkey to M3 (on a G15 keyboard).
And then added the Light Action (M3 on) as a visual for Keymaps on.
So if I press the M3 key, it activates Keymaps and turns the M3 light on.
For Step 2, you want the reverse.

In addition to Keymaps, you also want to verify Repeater is set as you like it to be.
I Right clicked on it, and selected Make Copy.
Then renamed one for Keyboard Repeater and the other for Mouse Repeater.
Basically went in and put Keyboard on M1 and Mouse on M2.
Then edited so each would only affect Keyboard and not Mouse or Mouse and not Keyboard respectively.

But however you set them up, you want to verify the Hotkey is what you think it is.
And that the action is turning on or off your keymaps.
Adjusting the duration of the Popup Text really helps.
Once its working as you want, you can reduce the timer if you like.

The default state of play, will be Keymaps On, but Repeater (or both Repeaters if you separate Keyboard and Mouse) off.
With Repeater off, anything on a keymap will do something.
But only things on keymaps do things.
If you want to broadcast everything you type, I'd turn off Keymaps.
Because, a keymap is a specific action for a given key, which takes precedence over general repeater options.

I'm not an expert on the software in general.
Pretty new to it in fact.

If this is not a help for you, your configuration will be the best way to help.
You'll want to Right Click on ISBoxer in the top.
Select "Copy ISBoxer Toolkit Profile to Clipboard".
Then go to www.pastebin.com, and right click and paste there.
You'll want to have a username, and check "remember me so I can delete my post".
I'd probably save it for a month, forever is too long and a day too short.
Also go to highlight text at the top.
Enter the name(s) of your accounts.
And just edit them to Account A instead of the actual account name.
Repeat for the other accounts. Half of your account security is guessing the username.

Haven't tried IS, which sounds cool, but for HKN and KC, keep in mind your slaves are rarely if ever standing directly on top of the leader. So no matter what you do with camera views, the mouse position on the leader window won't be the same for the slaves. I have experimented with passing the mouse with HKN and I just don't like it.

So just save a camera view zoomed in all the way, pointed straight down. Then no matter where you click (bound to a keystroke) you AOE right by you. I use this all the time for mage and lock AOE and also priest mass dispel. Works great, but you have to hit three keys. I have them (mostly) right next to each other and just roll three fingers across them.

One key to cast and setview, another to click, and a third to restore the view...

In IS that can be done on one key using the steps so step one would be all that are one your first key and so on

Im using ISboxer to do AoE damage with mouserepeater on. It works okey. Im getting better at it, but im still slow to cast the aoe as I have to look at the toons window to see where the AoE is going to hit. I end up getting the mobs close to my dps and then just aoe on "myself" making sure the mobs is within the area of damage.

But I have seen some vids where the aoe/mousebroadcast goes really fast.
