Anyone doing 5's without a separate healer? Wondering if it's possible to get to 1500 (enough to get most of the relentless stuff) by myself ... most of the posts I've read are 4boxing + a dedicated healer. Anyone?

That would be tough, but I guess it depends on your battlegroup as well. Even with a dedicated healer you start hitting teams that will gib all your shaman very quickly as low as 1200 rating
Try it and let me know! I am leveling a 5th shaman as we speak for BG and WG ownage. Tired of my paladin standing around looking useless.
never tried.. if ur looking for the stuff on all 5 just swap out guys so they get the same rating.. if ur wanting to to do it by urself just for the ease, then go try it, play like 40 games and see how u do.. i personally have no clue, but probably not as high as u would get with a seperate healer
I'll be farming arenas this weekend (4 ele shams + usually my prot pally that just stands there looking cool or a feral druid friend in crap gear there for the points). So basically alone lol. I'll let you know how we go, we are just looking to get to 1350 so we can buy all the furious pvp tier gear.
I'm not sure exactly when you start losing rating for losses.
I was thinking the same thing as you, Gitcho. I've done two weeks worth of Arena now, since the new season has started. I'm sitting at an awesome record of W0 - L20. haha
Now my gear is not ideal for Arenas, as I'm not gemmed for Res and Stamina and such, but I basically get stomped. I can take out one, maybe two people sometimes, It's pretty brutal, though, as 5 shamans. I have a 5 warlock team, but I obviously won't win anything with them, so I just named their team, "Warlock Dance Club" and let's just say they live up to their name :D
So I'm a bit bummed I won't get the higher level gear, but whatever. It's not worth trying to do 5 different teams, or at least two, and doing twice as many fights, just to do it. I have other things I'd rather work on, like alts, or whatnot.
I can tell you, though, that even with 10 losses a week and a rating of 0, you'll still collect your ~344 arena points a week. So at least you can buy gear for 12k honor and some arena points instead of 49k honor alone. :)
Always look on the bright... side... of life. *whistles* lol :D
you can buy the deadly gear...but thats it furious requires a rating.
correct me if i'm wrong, but ALL gear that you can buy with arena points REQUIRES a rating .. so unless you can actually win games, you're wasting time in arena. Seriously, I would love to be wrong here ...
Deadly gear does not need any arena rating nor any arena points. You can buy the set via honor alone! Now with that said you also have the option of buying deadly with honor AND arena points combined making that set overall cheaper. Furious and Relentless need Rating. So even if you cant win a single game you can still gear up via deadly armor and furious/WG off pieces.
i would PREFER the option to buy gear with arena points + honor - then at least there would be a point to losing 10 games / week - but I have yet to see where that's possible. What's your source? linkz pls
Deadly can be bought with arena points AND honor. It has no rating requirements and is an incentive for people without gear to queue for arena so the relentless guys can beat them up by facerolling.
I believe the vendor for the above is in Dalaran. It's been this way for a long time bro =)
Just go into the sewers of Dalaran to the arena vendor. There's a dude standing right next to him that is something like the "amatuer" arena vendor (something like that name) that sells gear for arena points and honor combination. The expensive pieces are like 12k honor and 350 arena points, which means you can pretty much get a new item every week if you just do your 10 5v5 games.
I have full arena gear on my guys and like a 200 rating (not proud, but I mostly dance anyway!).
Luckily you are wrong see below for prices of deadly gear
Deadly Gladiator's Chestpiece - 12 000 Honor Points, 350 Arena Points
Deadly Gladiator's Gauntlets - 7200 Honor Points, 200 Arena Points
Deadly Gladiator's Helm - 12 000 Honor Points, 350 Arena Points
Deadly Gladiator's Legguards - 12 000 Honor Points, 350 Arena Points
Deadly Gladiator's Shoulders - 9600 Honor Points, 275 Arena Points
Total - 52 800 Honor Points, 1525 Arena Points
Or 5 Weeks of losing 10 games a week :D Visit the vendor in Dalaran Sewer for proof
I wish we could get a starter weapon... Titansteel aint so hot anymore.
Take your guys to naxx :P or even do the H TOC get a very nice weap in there and its easy.
I do HTOC, just not with the pallies yet.
You can farm your arena points by losing then find someone to carry you to 1800pr (for the low tier weapon) for gold pretty easily (may require additional fee!)
IS THAT YOU STOAT? I vsed you in arena I think you was farming your 10 games lol your dk just stood there i was like wtf are you doing lol (soz hijacked thread)
I generally don't stand around if I actually take the queue. My dk/shamans have weather themed names
Hmm I could not get the name of them dam :(
Finally found him! You can buy deadly gear with arena points + honor in the Dalaran sewers by talking to Zom Bocom <Apprentice Arena Vendor>. So losing arena games is good for deadly gear on the cheap.
Wowhead appears to have the correct prices for the gear, but still lists a rating requirement. I checked in-game and there is no rating requirement on the deadly stuff.
so how many points do you get from losing? 300? If so, awesome, almost makes me wish I hadn't spent so much honor on the honor only deadly gear... oh well, i would have been capped anyway... Do you get any honor from arena? or just the points? I guess either way, i have more AV in front of me. Ill be farming the brewfest boss for the stam trinkets, each shaman having one of those should help my survivability a lot, at least for now (my tank already has both so they would otherwise be wasted)
I did my 10 games today, I actually won one! I one shotted one of their paladin DPS, then made short work of the rest of em, got em down to one priest trying to kite and LOS me.... They did down one of my shaman, but I was able to get off a rez pretty quickly. I think they were more confused than anything else. same team later on figured me out and got me. 1/9 aint too bad considering my craptastic gear.
344 Points
Thanks a bunch. should be pretty quick to get the pieces then, with way less time spent than just AV alone.
I got my self to 1000 rating pretty easily, even with quite a few losses you pretty much only move up in the lower ratings. I would have to lose nearly 40 games for every win to lose points. On sundays in ruin it seems like if you wait till later in the evening you get all the easy teams scrambling for their 10 games. My rule of thumb for meaningful progression while running without an assistant healer is if the queue is more than 5min drop it and run a different day.
In the arena, blow up the first target that can't go immune, 5v4 is easier. Think locks, hunters, shamans, and DKs. Dont hit warriors until you know they aren't gonna spell reflect. Mages will usually blow their block and give you 10 secs of free whacking on someone else the first time you throw flameshock on them. Not sure what the hell it is with priests but they seem to have a talent that makes them immune to being 1 shot, if they are healing just DoT them and purge off the buffs, it'll get them to refocus their attention.
