so,i am tired of "upgrading" my old System and wanna buy a brand new PC. I wanna play on 2 Monitors with 5 Clients..( main + 4 toons on other monitor )..What you think is needed to play without any problems ..settings on ultra etc..
1) SLI 285 GTX or 295 GTX? Or 2 GTX without SLI?
2) maybe a Raid 0 with 2 SSD ? maybe on a hardware controller?
3) 12 or 24 GB RAM?
i am not a "pro" oh these thinks and hope you can help me..whats you dream PC ..wothout money limits?
Well if your just playing wow 24gb is way over kill. Also wow doesn't use sli so thats out. By not putting a budget on it you can get some way out there builds. I can easily build a 10k system. I'm sure thats not what your looking for though. What are you going to play? If it's just for wow honestly if money isn't a issue just build 5 systems for the price of one super system.
Would have to get monitors for them but if you have the space it would be worth it I think.
You can seriously build a comp or get a bare bones system and buy an operating system for it for around 1500.00 to do what you want easily. My comp was around 1000.00 and i box 5 wows, vent, have firefox (on second monitor) and winamp normaly playing. I have 8g, NO lag in dalaran.
im going to upgrade to 4 ssd drives soon to replace my 4 - 500gig drives and get xp 64 bit. 64 bit seems to be the best upgrade.
1) Wow doesn't use SLI "well", so you're unlikely to notice much benefit. Still, if money is no limit, sure, SLI 2 GTX295s for other games that do.
2) If you really want RAID0, then get a *good* hardware raid controller. The software raid controllers that come on commodity motherboards do not, in my experience, provide enough of a performance increase (if any) to be worth the hassle and risk. A good RAID controller with RAID0 can be significant. I've never personally tried it on SSD, but I've heard some good things.
3) 12G is plenty for WoW, but again, if there is not limit on money, why not?
Biggest things imo:
- highest performance processor you can get. Right now this is OCd I7. Get the 975 (EE) edition. I would normally never recommend this because it's a giant rip-off, but you said money is no object and the unlocked multiplier can help with extreme OCing.
- Enough RAM so you're not swapping. I have 12G and never come close.
- Good video card, which is more than covered by your suggestions.
- Following all the information on this site wrt how to setup your directories, hard-links, slave clients, etc. I can't stress this enough, it made the single biggest difference in the usability of my system. I'm not going to list everything off, it's all in the stickies if you read them.

OK, in that case, drop the hardware raid controller and the 975. Maybe the SLI 295s, but that would depend on how much other gaming you do on your PC. If none, drop it too.
This will still be a nice computer and will be well under 3K

i7 920
12GB of fast DDR3
Intel G2 SSD's - enough for OS and WoW (i.e. 120GB)
4870x2 or 295 video card
Win7 (64-bit)
Anything past that won't really give you any noticable inprovment in WoW multiboxing. But you can always spent more if you want to.
If you start going down the "money is no object thing", then you could look at a nice RAID array of SSD's, 24GB of RAM for a RAM-drive, and SLI video cards. You won't notice it in-game at all, but booting Win7 in like 5 seconds is nice and the other improvments will help some other games. Personally, I'd stop spending more on 1 machine after I had what I listed above. Then start on a 2nd PC and multiple 30" displays :) Spending more to improve on 1 single machine just doesn't seem worth it.

10th is nda/soft launch of ati's new video card lineup, the only reason why I am interested in this is the eyefinity capability to support 3 monitors
On the 10th AMD will be showing off the HD5xxx series GPU. Current rumors are that the 5870 will be about the same speed as a 4870x2 and be around $299. The HD5xxx series can also output to 3 monitors at the same time which might be something to think about.
Intel are also releasing the i5 CPU which will be on a cheaper motherboard than the current i7's so it might be worth waiting for that to see how it performs vs the i7.
I would defiantly get a raid0 SSD array though because that can increase frame rates a lot in places like Dalaran.
So i5 is set to release in less than 2 weeks? I was about to build an i7 system but if the i5's will be out shortly, i might just wait and see.
It's being widely reported that i5 will be released next Tuesday (Sept. 8) but I don't know if Intel has said so publicly.
I think it's a good idea to wait till next week and read the new benchmarks and compare prices before building a PC.
Some benchmarks have already leaked out of Taiwan and it looks likely that i5's performance will be comparable to the 920 but the system price may be lower.
How much RAM will the i5's support? I know so little about the subject, but I'm curious if it will be multiples of 2 or 3, which could make a big difference for multiboxers.
Off topic I'm curious what the projections (purely guesses at this point) are for the expansion and multiboxing... I wonder if these current i7 920 systems, like the one I have, will be able to handle the ever increasing demands.
here is the dilemma in the i5 vs i7 debate, i5 removes hyperthreaded which takes away your 4 "logical cores" and i beleive has smaller cache sizes. so your standard user will see equal performance dollar for dollar, whereas a 5 boxer may see no increase or a decrease in performance. pure speculation because until someone runs benchmarks in highly multi-threaded apps we wont know.

But a year or two from now, new PCs will probably be able to run more WoWs than your machine can. CPUs with 8 cores/16 threads are on the way.
I think Cataclysm will up the hardware requirements. Not much, but Im pretty sure it will make multiboxing a little bit harder on one PC.
They mentioned re-doing some basic graphics like gear and toons besides all the new areas. I feel if your computer handles Dalaran, it will be fineQuote:
