RaF and Extra Experience Problems

Hello all,

I am new to multiboxing and I just recently setup my system. Now my question doesn't pertain directly to multiboxing as that is working wonderfully, but I imagine many of you who do multibox have taken advantage of WoW's RaF (Recruit-a-Friend) bonuses which is why I'm hoping someone could help me with a little insight, or at least a better understanding than myself.

I originally had 2 accounts, which we'll call Account1 and Account2. I did RaF with Account 1 -> Account 3 (then upgraded online to vanilla WoW to be able to level past 20) and Account 2 -> Account 4 (then upgraded online to vanilla WoW). It took about 18hrs or so, but it appears the trial status was lifted off accounts 3 and 4 because I was able to send tells to people not on my friend's list along with everything else a trial account can't do.

I decided to go with a 4 druid team. Account1 has a level 16 druid, while Account2-4 had new druids created. Right clicking on the appropriate characters' frames on the accounts that are linked show the "Summon Friend" and the grayed out "Grant Levels" (which I understand why that is).

Now here's my problem, the character created (new druid on Account 3) that is linked to the level 16 druid (on Account 1) doesn't appear to be getting any XP bonuses. In the same party, characters created on Accounts 2 and 4 that are in the same party are getting the proper XP gains. From my understanding, if you are linked with a character of higher level, the lower level character (be it the recruiter or the recruitee) gets the XP bonus from RaF. Also, keep in mind that I brought the level 16 back to the druid starting area, so it is all gray to him but obviously not to the new druid.

So to recap, all 4 accounts are linked appropriately according to WoW management and evident by the appropriate in-game menus. However, with all 4 in the same party in the druid starting area I get the following behavior when killing a level 4 spider:

Account 1 (level 16 druid) (Original Account) - No XP (obviously because it's gray)
Account 2 (new druid) (Original Account) - 24 XP
Account 3 (new druid) (RaF with Account 1) - 3 XP
Account 4 (new druid) (RaF with Account 2) - 24 XP

What part of the puzzle am I missing here that is causing Account 3 not to receive appropriate XP gains? Is it because the mob is gray to the higher level druid? I wanted to stay in the starting area while I figured this whole multiboxing thing out, but it seems like I have that working without a hitch.

You have to be within 5 levels (or is it 3?) in order to get the exp bonus. Since account 1 is 16, and account 3 is new, they will not get RAF bonus until they are closer in level together.

Quickest way is probably to just reroll your current 16 and make him 1 along with the others. You'll be 16 again in no time with 3x exp.

Your characters must be within (5) levels - so no more then (4) can seperate the linked accounts to get the 3(x) bonus.

What owltoid says is correct. You have to be within a minimum levels between the 2 accts to gain raf Exp. This is why alot of multiboxers go the route of A->B->C->D for their RAF. So that A can boost with a high level toon. while B C and D still keep the RAF bonuses.
If you are planning on boosting yourself. the easiest way to do so would be to get another acct. Since you have A->C and B-D> currently.. You can link another acct to C so A->C->E this way you can boost with A. If you can find someone else to boost you you don't need the 5th acct.
Otherwise just like Owltoid said. Restart a new toon on A to level with the rest of the new toons and level them together.

No, but you must be within 4 levels of one another and meeting all other triple experiences requisites in order for both characters to receive triple experience. If this level requirement is not met, only the lower level character will receive the bonus.

For example: Should your character be 5 levels higher than your recruit, only your recruit's character will be eligible for triple experience (provided that all other requirements are met, as well).

All standard restrictions and requisites will continue to apply.

This is the part that confuses me. I realize that the level 16 won't get the 3x bonus due to the level differences but wouldn't the above mean just the new character would receive the 3x bonus?

Either way, the bonus isn't happening so that must be interpreted incorrectly.

Agreed. Stick to the advice that was posted by the folks here. It would be interesting though to get some clarification on the FAQ from blizzard. That interpretation opens up alot of possibilities if that is truly how its supposed to work now.

I have a question related to RAF...

If I leveled to 60 with RAF and have never gifted my levels to my other accounts... could I still save those gifts for when Catalycsm comes out and then instantly give 30 levels to a new lvl 1 goblin (or to a lvl 31 goblin to make him 60)? Or is there some sort of time limit from when you can give the levels?

The link breaks at 90-days or should you transfer your character to another account or realm

From Blizzard FAQ

Are there are any restrictions on granting levels?
Yes: 1) Levels may only be granted to characters on a veteran account by characters on a linked recruit account; 2) levels may only be granted to characters of the same faction and on the same realm; 3) levels may not be granted to characters over level 59; and 4) levels may not be granted to characters of equal or higher level; 5) levels may not be granted once a 90-day account link breaks.
With this, once a level is granted, it may not be used again. For example: If a recruit character possessed 15 "grantable" levels and provided 10 to a veteran character, only 5 would remain for future use.

This also applies to quest RAF xp bonus. As long as the quest isn't gray to the higher level character the lower level will get the bonus regardless of the level difference.

An example of a test I personally did was take an 80 unlinked with a lvl 20 linked with a lvl 40 to SM. The lvl 20 received 3x XP with RAF and the lvl 45 received 2x XP with rest until it ran out then it was 1x XP.

I'm betting what you were killing was gray level to your level 16.
