I think it's going to be interesting. They're doing a lot of things people have been wanting for a long time.
wtb NE->Worgen xfer NAO
My concern is with the use of phasing. I've read that's not really a good thing for multiboxers. I wouldn't know as I only started multiboxing a few days ago.
For the rest of it, I'll wait before I make an opinion. Can't judge anything until you've tried it.
what kind of unique thing do you want? it all sounds pretty nice to me 'cept i would like to change to a tauren pally but i for sure am not leveling one :(
i dont know that theres much they could add to this game to really break any huge ground.
Personally a lot of it sounds exciting to me. As much as I hate phasing for boxing it does bring great opportunities to the game. Always hated how you do something that changes stuff in the game but come back and it's like it never happened. Honestly wish they left the lvl cap at 80 though. Then they could of went with something like AA in EQ. Sort of sounds like they do have something like this in the new expansion though. Bumping the lvl's does nothing but make old content useless. Imagine if they left the lvl cap at 60 or even 70 and how much raid content there would be. Some of it old yes but still there for a purpose.
can't please everyone ...

You're a bit late on the QQ. People started a week ago.
This game had started to get very old to those of us who've played since day one. A revamp of the old world is hardly a recycle. I consider recycling naxx, where you take the dungeon...dont change it very much and throw it back in. Heroic deadmines would also be probably recycled content - but this seems to be a small portion of it.
This is entirly different. They are taking old content (zones, dungeons, bosses), destroying them and making new content from it that we havn't seen before. I'm definatly bored of the old world, its been done...and done...and done over and over again. So i'm very glad to see this major change as it breaths life into a very old game. Adding another 10 levels and a continent would frankly be incredibly boring to a lot of us.
I have a concern tho from a multiboxing standpoint, if they are going to be making heavy use of phasing, this is going to suck for us multiboxers. I dont know about you, but i lose follow when traveling from one phase to another (aka fog areas or the wrathgate). Imagine trying to walk around with your characters vanishing all the time assuming they havn't fixed that.
I hear a LOT of us having issues with phasing. But in my experience, it's never caused a huge issue. Sure, I lose toons if I don't handle certain areas the right way. (If lag is nice to me, I never have issues) So I welcome phasing as a means to explore new content.
Being able to FLY in Azeroth? this is what we've been asking for since level 70.
The thing that kinda irks me, is all the new class combinations, sure it's cool and everything, but I already have 60+ of every class on 1 faction. So I have no real reason to reroll. Bu I will. Gilneas looks BAD ASS.
The phasing issue that concerns me the most is the inability of a high level leader toon to boost low level toons through the old world instances because they are no longer in the same phase.
Aside from that, I'm OK with the reuse of the old world.
They mentioned improving the UI to see players near you but in a different 'phase'.
Quote from MMO-Champion:
Hopefully the result is something that'll help us.Quote:
Q: Will “phasing” be used more extensively in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm?
A: Yes. We’ve come up with a number of new, cool ways to using phasing since we introduced it in Wrath of the Lich King, and plan to use it more extensively to change the world as players progress. We are also now able to phase terrain, which players will see in the starting areas for the goblins and worgen. We’re also adding some UI improvements to help determine when another player is in a different “phase” from you.
for boxing, it might cause problems yes.
as an expansion itself, it looks totally awesome. its progression, not recyclism, im glad i can return to kalimdor, after spending so much time in northrend, to find that naralaxx or whatever that druid is in wailing caverns has finally changed the face of the barrens, for example, and that ragnaros is back, and deathwing is ready to take over the world, and hey... you can finally see uldum and take a walk around under the mealstrum, or what have you. the world around us is changing and progressing. i like that.
This.
Except I haven't finished boosting my warrior/shaman duo to 60 yet. They're level 43. And the druid the 3rd account has been gifting is still 31. If I stop now I can "gift" him up to 43...single-box him to 60 to join my 2nd 3-man team that will start when my current 3-man hits 80 or gets boring.
I'll save the warrior & shaman classes for my goblins
I'm just resentful that, after pointing out that the Cataclysm rumors looked like bullshit on a few different forums ... it turns out that I WAS WRONG! Cataclysm is obviously out to embarass me, so now I can't give it the satisfaction of playing it. Hrmph. So begins the personal vendetta.
But actually, now that it's real, I quite like the idea of multiboxing goblin melee spurred on by some orc caster. It sounds so Warhammery. "GIT 'EM, GITS!!"
Cataclysm looks freaking awesome.
That is all.
You have no idea how many times I have walked up to Grim Batol and said," Damn I hope they put something sweet in here soon." Though I don't like the thought of Tauren pallies, it means I now have NO need for Blood Elves, yay!
As far as new races, idc, probably play both, but Gilneas is of interest to me. I hate those places in the world where you see a place to go and can't get there, and places that were empty on my map, there is a coastline, so there must be something there!
The sad part for me is I joined the game about at TBC release, and haven't really experienced all the old world content yet. I have been taking my highest team to run through the instances way overleveled to at least see them. There is so much to see and do, and my time is so limited. I only got one team to 60 and one to 40 on RaF :(. Didn't get my zevra mounts, didn't get my granted levels. Stupid work. Ugh.
So I continue to slowly level all my personal FotM teams (on 4 different servers) without heirloom bonus because I OCD about not having rested bonus. New expansions make me sad.
As far as the phasing UI upgrade, I strongly believe that will just be a "phase marker" in front of the name when they chat/ask a question in general. Then you read it and think," I don't have to help this dolt now because I already finished that phase, yay me!"
I cant believe that we're already complaining about this lol (ok yes i can).
I am waiting to hear more about this mastery / path of the titans thing. Also the guild leveling sounds like fun (I enjoyed it in EQ2, we'll see if its similar).
When I stop progressing my character I stop playing, so lets hope its something both fun, meaningful, and in depth.
Anyways.
We'll see.
My only major gripe so far is that these changes to the old world are PERMANENT and there will be no way to go back once it starts. I was kind of hoping they would implement something where you can go back to the original old world through the Caverns of Time. No such luck though.
And my only REAL concern about that is that I have places like ZG and Karazhan on Farm for the mounts, and I really really hope they do not change those zones at all.
Also, if I ever do boost up another team, I'd like to still be able to take them through Deadmines, Scarlet Monestary, Zul Farak, Strat.
If all that gets left alone, then I'm gtg.
I noticed that there will be heroic versions of SFK and Deadmines with the new expansion. That is awesome. I'm immune to complete instance burn-out; since I'm a dungeon-crawler at heart, I'm always game to do an old dungeon again, provided I haven't been running it twice a night for the last week and am fed up. I've been hoping they'd start remaking old instances with heroic versions, maintained at the current level cap. This doesn't completely fulfill that hope but it's a nice start!
They will not remove or update old world raids, besides onyxia. No one wants to raid ZG for "nostalgia" like onyxia. Trolls... /shudder
I want to know whats up with faction transfer. Someone needs to ask the GD question to the panels.
I'm all alliance now, but the racials for goblins make me go.... hmmmmmmmmm. Cant wait to have a worgen druid though! Ugh leveling again, /cry
Im kinda happy with the change i mean yea its gonna be more work now but meh. Only thing that sux is i have so many toons between 60-70 i want to get to 80 before exp pack i dont know if i will make it. I want to be able to have all my teams at 80 so that when it drops i can make a goblin team and a worgen team. That might suk the whole leveling again too lol. Im kinda burnt on leveling but meh seems like it will be fun. But for now i guess imma get my 5 shamans to 80 5 locks to 80 and 5 druids to 80.
Then ill make teams and be rdy to explore the new stuff with mixed teams oh yea cant wait. Yea the worgen druid looks awesome am i right tho. Why didnt they make goblins or drwarfs or gnomes a druid now that would have been great come on. You have the normal size druid then you have a kitten and could you imagine tanking an instance the size of a bear cub sexy if i say so. But hopefully we have another year till that comes out. I mean shit we still got the battle for icecrown citidel with arthas to deal with right. One more year and ill be set with all my teams having epic flyers and rdy to have some mad fun. Also this way i can have a horde and alliance team on my server then transfer horde and alliance team to whatever relm all of us are going to this way i dont have to be alone all the time on a server that is negative cept me in the boxing category. Getting tired of the complaints now so that whole idea of everyone making guilds together sounds great. Sorry so long wouldnt have beena ble to goto bed in 5 mins with all that on my mind.
I played the old world. Since day 1.
I was a little disappointed when Naxx came out, because we finished that, at lvl 60 and it really didn't change, at all. I understand that most of the community wasn't able to do that, so that's fine.
This expansion in no respect warrants the same excitement we had about BC or WotLK is all I'm saying. Remember when you saw the first BlizzCon photos and leaked info on these xpacs? I was excited, like a little girl on xmas. Now, I am seeing a disappointing add-on to a game and not a true expansion. I hope there is more info to come, because so far I feel underwhelmed.
So how will they handle the phasing for the world changes with regards to going back to do low-level quests for faction with capital cities or nostalgia items? An interesting theory. (And yeah, I know you can turn in shitloads of cloth or do BGs or <insert alternate faction method here>. Not my point. Thanks for playing. Please drive through.)
No, there are new zones. Most existing zones are getting a revamp too. I think all this QQ is a little too early. Play it first and decide then. Im positive you will like it, this is Blizzard after all.
edit: seven new zones, WoTLK had what? 7? So it really is like getting a new continent.
I like the Deathwing stuff, the world altering stuff, the additional races and putting the Horde(Orc) nation on par with the craziness of the Blood Elves. The huge stat mechanics overhaul has me at odds, the hunter stuff sounds good. The shaman totem changes are sort of scary. But the core stat changes seem goofy, likely its really just presented poorly. I clearly remember before the 5 second rule my priest was unstoppable, I could gheal non-stop (and to be obnoxious I would), though I had a mana pool of something like two gheals in size.
I cannot believed there isn't more of a response here for the rated battlegrounds and pvp guild talent tree. Stuff
Phasing isn't that big of a deal really, one of the issues though is knowing if someone in your group is phased. You see them in the minimap and they are in an alternate reality. That needs to be fixed if they are going make it wide spread. Currently its not that big, just for a few quest chains really. but the 'can someone help me with this quest' and you find out they are phased, that type of thing won't stand.
I think it's going to be good, I am glad that they're revamping the old world...it was really rather depressing to go through it as I leveled up and not see a soul. Not to mention incredibly freakin' boring after, what, the 20th time by now? So far the only things I don't like - I can't be an orc paladin, wtf? Come on! Alliance got the cooler race, again. Underwater...really? I am not liking the sound of that at all. Beyond that, I'll reserve any judgement until we get a little more than some sketchy teaser details.
I wanted to hate this xpac, I really did. Then I thought of all the wonder I had the first time I explored Azeroth and I realized that I get to experience that again. I'm excited.

i think its going to be good, i am really excited about it.
Watching blizzcon is not good tho ...cos i wanna be there!
Underwater will be just like walking on land and underwater mounts will operate just like air mounts. Sounds kind of silly.
I think the stat overhaul sounds awesome. Getting back towards what they originally had going on before they had to bastardize all their stats to try and balance the game. Im happy to focus more on straight stats and not have to worry about AP / SP etc.
im excited for almost everything ive heard (or read rather). hope they do an open beta for this like they did with wotlk...
I've been on cloud nine as soon as I saw these changes. One of the things I miss most about the old world is how nostalgic it is for me (I've been playing since release day). I like the fact that the world is changing--It shows a progression in the story and that's a wonderful thing :)
Of course, Goblin Shaman is going to be the coolest thing in the world. Period. Ever.
This just feels like all those qq posts in the wow general forums, 5 minutes after the trailer is released "this expansion sucks I'm canceling"
just expect different from these forums
"this is bs"
"they should call this expansion Recyclysm"
blah blah blah
Lots of players have been complaining to Blizzard that the old world sits unused and that leveling up alts is boring because the old world is both too familiar and too empty. This looks like an attempt to address that while also solving a few other problems (warlock shards, flying in Azeroth, putting the 'war' back into warcraft, etc).
I have no idea if I'll like it or not, or even if I'll be playing when it ships. It looks interesting and I suspect that it will be popular because it delivers what a lot of people have been asking for. The one thing I'm concerned about is Archeology. Since it looks as if Archaeology will tie into the Path of the Titans progression, that could mean that you pretty much have to get it for all of your characters. That would be the first profession that was practically mandatory for all of your characters. I don't look forward to that, considering that I could have 10-12 (or as many as 20) level 80 characters when the expansion hits.
