TotC: Faction Champions

So I got to run the 10 Man TotC today and see the new encounter for this week. It's very similar to the PVP style encounter from Magister's Terrace. In 10 man you get 6 random NPC with about 400k HP, in 25 I hear it's 10 with 2M(?).

There was a lot of bitching from guildies about not wanting PvP in there PvE, but honestly I just thought it was chaotic. we got them down after a number of attempts, so it is doable, but it was rather frustrating due to the random nature of the encounter. The NPCs seem to drop aggro very easily and worse it is common for three of them to focus fire. Add in that two of them are healers and a number of silences and interrupts ( the shammy interrupted me with Earth Shock!) and it can be a healing nightmare. The NPCs also bubble, use deterrence and the shadow priest dispersed; at least the shammy didn't ankh.

They do drop nice loot, but every week will be different depending on the random nature of the NPC comp.

Anyone else had a poke at it and wanna share you thoughts? I'm trying to get a decent parse of my logs, but WowWebStats is giving me nothing and I'm not sure what else there is anymore.

Grats on beating them!

My wife's guild took down the 25 man version after a few attempts last night. I walked in on one of the failed attempts and saw them get owned.... so I said "why don't you CC the crap out of them?" They cleaned up on the next attempt. I know, I know... CC in PvE content... who'd a thunk it. She runs a holy priest so she was in spirit form pretty fast.

So this sounds easy with plenty of mages? I mean unless they have a trinket escape every 10secs you can just sheep them all? Not speaking from experience obviously.

Yea was fun. I did it 25 man, but it was so funny at first. "Hey, we are a PvE guild!" "I dont like PvP!" blah blah blah....

What made me laugh so hard was one of our raid leaders said in vent. "Ok, shamans I want you to lay down your stoneclaw for the pets and also earthbind totem. Oh and also lay down your tremor for fears. " all at the same time. They are not used to PvP encounters and yet it was so funny to us few pvpers in the guild. Was a blast of a raid night.

Still was a cake boss, we wiped on the first attempt, but the 2nd we wiped the floor with the alliance!

I get my first look at this on the guild 25-man run tonight. Sounds exciting! This is the first time I've REALLY looked forward to a raid in a very long time :)

This fight on 25 is insane. My guild didn't bring enough CC and we were getting squashed. The fact that the CC suffers from Diminishing Returns is a major factor.

Since it's faux PvP CC only lasts 10 seconds and is on diminishing returns. Second sheep will last 5 seconds, and eventually they become immune.

We just beat this on 25 man with my guild, and i got the spell shield =) we had one dude on each of the casters to cs, and one cc on each mele to keep em buzzy. It want slowly down the first two champions and the rest was piss easy =)

beat it 2nd try on 25 man - Key for us was chain fear (had loads of warlocks) and focused dps, and everyone using all CC abilities at all times.
They can't be tanked btw, no normal threat table works.

Yet to try 10 man, but according to guildies 10 man is much harder than 25 due to the fact that 10 mans don't have all the abilities of a 25 man raid.

I have to agree with the concept of not liking pvp in my pve.

Give me 10 mobs that can't be tanked, can 1 or 2 shot clothies and have diminished CC and make my raiding guild face it... gee, thanks.

We'll down it, and I'll never enjoy the fight. Random bullshit encounters like this aren't fun, they are random. There will be times when you get wiped just because of bad luck (oh all our healers got sodomized in 3 seconds... oh well.... wipe and try again.)

Just lazy design on blizzards part.

I agree 100%. Putting 10 PvE's up against a mandatory PvP encounter sucks. We beat them in our 10 man group on the 5th try. Not bad at all since 7 of our guild don't PvP.....ever.

Ha ha wow! The 10 man crew I run with did the Northrend Beasts and Lord J just fine this week but the Faction Champions pretty much just laughed at our pathetic attempts.
