I'll add to the original post with this: any mixed teams, especially with a holy priest, having luck with her?
The combination of fears and burst DPS both on the tank and a DPS (she seems to pick the low DPS and hit them with her DD twice in 2 seconds after checking many logs) makes this hell on my healing.
After fear I'm using the click to move interact with target, but if I get them too close they start eating the nightmare's melee range AE. If I don't get them close enough, after a fear (or more) they're too spread out for my priest to get them all with her AE's. Really struggling.
4 grounding totems and a burst of chain heal here sure would be nice. ;)
I'm really not even close. I think I MAY have gotten the nightmare to 50% once.
Hell this is tough even if you dont box, if its a decent group you can do it but if some of your dps is lacking forget about it. Sorry I can't comment on her since I have done the place once with her on Normal and even on Normal she was tough!
if you have a shaman in your group, setup a macro to purge the renew off of the shadow mob that the Paletress casts on it during phase 2. That renew heals the shadow mob 22k every 3 seconds for 9 seconds. My 2nd attempt on her in heroic last night was successful using the purge tactic. Also save bloodlust for phase 2 to help you dps the shadow mob down as fast as possible.

I have such a keybind set up but to be honest I'm already micro-tasked on this fight so far.
I know the HoT is negating damage but I'm not even close to bursting the nightmare down as yet for this to be my priority issue. I'm simply struggling to keep my team standing in this phase.
I wonder if there's someway to direct most (all?) of Paletress aggro to the tank during this phase? She's eating my healer/DPS alive.
I hear ya. I did horrible on this fight as well. I think it was the renew because it felt like I had virtually no DPS on the shadow mob.
I will have to try the purge tactic. That was mentioned in other strats I read as well. I did read one suggestion to kite the mob around and that causes Paletree to follow you as well since she is linked ot the shadow somehow. I am not sure if this stops her from casting though.
If your tank is a Paladin, Divine Sacrifice will have 30% (base) or 40% (2 points into Divine Guardian) of damage taken by your party redirected to the Paladin. With AoE heals, this might be good, as you can top them all off by a bit, rather then having to hit one of them for a whole lot.
Make sure you drop your tremor totems - those are a life saver.
I usually position my toons close to the wall, droping those tremor totems and then blow heroism as soon as she becomes immune and kill that add asap.
For a mixed group it's a lot harder since what usually kills you are those fears in combination with her 5k damage on random toons. You really have to heal through her damage and have the tank focus on the add.
- tremor totem / fear protection on the tank/healer if available
- group up and use AE heals for group damage
- purge/dispel the renew ASAP (try not to let it tick)
- keep taunting her with the tank, seems to help redirect some of the random damage back to tank
- interrupt her nukes, not sure if both or only one of them are able to be stopped
Yeah, my first attempt sounds similar to your situation. I ran out of mana trying to kill that shadow mob. The longer that phase takes, the more stress it puts on your group with fears, smites, etc. I was amazed at how fast I killed that mob the 2nd time without the renews healing it back up (especially during fears).Quote:

I have my one tremor totem dropped. Only a small help.
I'll have to try to introduce a near consta-purge spam on a button next to my dps spam to see if that helps. Just not seeing it yet.
I think the idea was to fear ward your priest and use the mass dispell?
I typically fear ward my priest so I can heal during the first fear that lands.
I did this on normal several times tonight, wasn't nearly as difficult. Good practice IMO.

Mass dispell is a targeted AE, correct? If so, that's something I haven't yet incorporated into my playstyle as I haven't needed it. Plus, that's really only going to shorten one fear bomb and I don't think that's the silver bullet for me as yet.
You must get renew off the adds, thats really the "gotcha" to this fight. Plus of course having your group facing the right way. I wiped a lot in heroic until I got a lot better at purging renew off, and keeping everyone always topped off. The fight is a LOT easier with (many) shamans, but even still I 1-shot it nowadays with a prot pally, boomkin, holy priest, and 2 shamans. I spam POH on my priest, since once the add is down you can basically kill her without any heals. I also lust usually as soon as the add spawns, so I can just burn it down asap -- I don't mind taking a 10 min AFK break between her and black knight.
I just tank and spank this and use interact with target to face it after the fears. I've never had any trouble with my mixed team on this one. I don't remove the renew either.
I only spot heal with my resto shaman and don't aoe heal at all so maybe that is the difference for me. I don't know if that would make it easier though. Earth shield might help out some for when I can't get heals while feared.

Are you sure your team has the right boss targeted? Sometimes after a fear the target is removed, or for example if pala direct hits someone they may target her, or if you have heal macros that dont use [target=..] you may be changing targets. Interact with target only works with NPCs, not other players.Quote:

Many of the adds have a melee-range AOE, in addition the priestess drops some nasty random hits. Also if your back is facing either boss and they melee you, you are treated as 0 defense (ie crittable, etc). You simply cannot let anyone ever drop below 50% health on this fight, you cannot let your tank be "back tanking" the add, and the more grounding totems and interrupts on pala you do the better - I keep pala /focus'd on my tank so I can mind freeze some of her casts, in addition to taunt as often as possible). I use macros like this on my DK:

You can get it down to a pretty easy 1 shot if you just follow the "rythm" of the fight, which is:
1. burn her to 40% fast, have grounding totems down and you won't really even need a single heal
2. let your tank build aggro when add comes out, drop tremor totem and grounding again. i lust when add comes out, since I don't really need lust for black knight anymore
3. never let anyone drop below 50%, just spam heals when necessary since mana is NOT a problem once the add is gone, the boss itself is cake
4. purge renews off adds, after every fear reassist tank, interact with target, press jump after a few steps, heal the tank, heal the group, DPS like crazy, always be dropping grounding totems every c/d, interrupt/taunt the boss whenever you can. always make sure the tank is positioned slightly away from group, and his back isn't facing add or boss
Smooth, you must SERIOUSLY outgear me then.
I'm far from refined with my tactics but this fight has eaten my lunch. I mean not even close yet.
Care to share your tactics just to ensure I'm not missing something obvious?

I'll try not to leave out anything that I do.
1. Clear left side adds then right side adds.
2. Parks guys in center circle and drop totems from my resto sham...mana,wrath,strength of earth,flame tongue
3. Kill center group of adds at far range. Immediately hit boss from near where she starts which should be about max range from slaves.

6. Assist/interact as soon as everyone is out of fear and tank it wherever it stands..it always follows my tank through the fear. I hit foward button to stop moving and re-interact with target if any are still out of range. Sometimes they will run completely up to the add before I stop them.
7. Continue to dps til next fear..I usually get 3 fears before I down it.
8. Target boss, assist, interact to get closer, dps her down.
Basically a tank and spank but maybe there's something in there that will help you out
FYI, you can kill the center group without aggro'ing her.
I go left to right and finish with my team outside her aggro range. I can then med up before engaging her.
Don't see anything earthshatteringly new in your tactics. They look solid. Think I just need to practice, practice.
Then, I get to work on the Knight. /rolleyes
So two guild paladins (healing spec'd) joined me on heroic tonight for Paletress. I dropped my priest and warlock. So, pally tank and mage/shaman dps.
Completed the instance with two healers.
Got me to thinking, I wonder if I should set up my shaman to help with healing somehow to make this easier. Paletress wiped me twice tonight again prior to getting the paladin healers' help.
Well i just finished Heroic Trial of the Champions with 2 Healer Setups and farming epics is now my daily task.
1. Team
Pally-Tank, 2 Elemental-Shaman, 1 Resto-Shaman, 1 Boomkin
just setup one Button for chainheal and have your toons on follow. setup 3 tremor totems. i usually don't need to purge the healing of the shadow mob, but should give it a try - might be easier.
2. Team
Pally-Tank, 2 Elemental-Shaman, 1 Diszi-Priest, 1 Boomkin
This battle is more challenging. setup 2 tremor totems, setup prayer of healing and chainheal on the same button. on this fight i use to cast my Bloodlust
i still wipe sometimes on my second team, but 3 shamans casting chainheal gibes you enough time. purging might be very helpful, i'll give it a try
Nothing new here, but I got a heroic Paletress for the first time tonight and dropped her after a couple wipes.
The first time I couldn't burst the nightmare through that HoT, got frustrated and went hunting for dispel ideas. Oh, right, I have a priest, I have, uh, Dispel Magic. I keep posting these little obvious tips lately because apparently I get into this ridiculously deep ruts, like the one where I forgot that Dispel Magic works on mobs too, and am shocked when I realize I haven't been doing it right. Anyway, I made a macro for the priest to /assist the tank and cast Dispel Magic.
The second time I fucked up and forgot to buff Righteous Fury (I'm on an older SmartBuff which doesn't know the 3.2 changes, so I took Righteous Fury off, and therefore have to remember to buff the most important tank spell), so naturally everyone died. Um.
The third time, I beat her. When I sensed the nightmare's HoT taking over, I hit the priest's dispel macro and soon after, it was dead. Once it's gone, Paletress still hits hard but nonetheless she's very killable.
Just wanted to point out that back tanking mobs does not make you crittable. You just lose parry and dodge which makes you take a ton of damage real quick like.Quote:

You sure it doesnt hang a macro? My shaman have a dps spam key castsequence LB, Purge and if there is nothing to purge it stops.
edit: took this ho on again and 3 tremor totems and 1 dispeller make this fight trivial. I could probably get away with two tremor totems, but eh go with what works.
You don't put it on an elemental shaman. You hotkey the macro on your resto shaman. While you're not healing, he will sit there attempting to cast purge constantly until there is something to purge.Quote:

A shaman makes that fight so much easier. For anyone with shamans I would suggest using wind shear on paletress during the nightmare phase. It decreases her dps and stops her from getting off 100% of her heals. Also, make sure you purge the renew she puts on the mob.
I set paletress as my shamans target then use a simple /stopcasting /cast wind shear macro to stop her from casting. My purge macro has focustarget so when I see the renw I press purge. I recommend a /stopcasting on that too.
