boosting XP rate lower?

I have 4 toons that all get RAF XP and I am boosting them with my 70 priest. However, I am noticing that when I kill a lvl 5 mob with the 70 in the group they get 22xp vs 90 xp when the lvl 70 is not in the group.

Once I start doing instance grinding is this going to slow things down to much? Yes, I can kill things very fast but I need to kill 5x the amount if the 70 was not in the group.

How do most people deal with boosting? This is my first boosting group so any tips would be welcomed.

When I'm boosting a group, I level them to 8 via quests without the higher level. Once they're level 8 I head to Ragefire Chasm (dunno what the alliance equivalent is... deadmines?) and clear it repeatedly with the higher-level character. Yeah, you lose a lot of experience-per-kill to the high-level character, but you make it up with killing speed. Instances are great for an AOE booster because mobs will follow you from one end of the zone to the other, so you can clear the instance in just a few pulls.

Here's how it works:
If you have a high level toon in the group you get diminished xp based on that person's level.

However, this is only for normal mobs.
Elites always give the same xp to your low guys no matter how high your other person is.
This is how instance boosting works.
You level your guys to 8 the normal way doing quests and such.
Then you can start them in instances.

The key to it all is to either group with your high guy and be killing elites in an instance or group without your higher toon cuz it drastically diminishes xp.

Questing rarely NEEDS the 70's help anyway if you're leveling more than 1 person.

Just quest the lowbies with the 70 out of group, just there to rez/heal if need be, and get to lvl 10. Then run up to shadowfang keep (its waaaaay better than deadmines btw its well worth the run, plus it puts you close to SM for when you are ready to move up)

Park the alts at the gate, you might have aggro problems to the first mob or 2, but after that, they are free to just stand there. Then take the priest and gather all the mobs up to the first miniboss, and holy nova the crap out of em, then have the wizard open the gate. Now the fun begins. Round up everything you can see in the main room, and aoe down. If you think you can survive, with renew and PW:S, round up more. Basically find out how many u can round up, then run em back to the gate and holy nova em down. You can skip looting if you want, it just takes time anyway. (I often bring along another lowbie solo who can loot everything, just so I get the copper/silver on my alts) I did it with a lvl 69 feral druid in crappy gear, and could pull most everything, and Ive also done it with an 80 prot pally, who at 30k hp laughs at the place.... Your priest should do fine. If you can handle it, run all the way to the first blocked boss, with the rest of the instance in tow, and aoe from there. You can then run out and reset, or go for the last boss, but in order for the lowbies to get exp/loot u have to pull the boss down the hall a ways...

You will hit 20 in no time, then you can either stay there for another lvl or 2 as it is quite easy, or run to SM Cath. You wont be able to pull as much with a 70 priest, but it should still be pretty easy. Just Stack Stam gear, keep PW:S up, renew yourself etc...

I don't believe this is the case. Elite mobs simply give a higher amount of XP than non-elites, but having a higher level character boost you will reduce the XP given. Regardles of this fact, you will still level far faster by boosting than if you were trying to do the instance as a same level group.

Correct, if the higher level is in the group the exp will be dropped by ## amount. Doesn't matter if the mobs are elite or not.

Yeah, its just that Elites give a lot more exp for their level, but are just about as easy for a high level to kill, and this quickly makes up the difference for the exp soaked up by the high level toon.

I will agree that SFK is much better than RFC or DM. For one thing, the mobs in RFC have that annoying knockdown/stun that can hit a level 70+ player repeatedly, which makes it take forever to round them up. Second, the mobs in SFK do not run in fear, which means you don't lose any time chasing down low-health runners (although a level 70+ can probably nuke them down before they even realize that they're low enough to run). It's also a very short zone with a high mob density.

I was reluctant to drop one of my mages to add my 70 priest to the group thinking the xp loss would not be worth it vs questing. Oh how wrong I was!

I put my priest, pally, shaman and 1 mage from 22 to 31 doing scarlet mon run with my 70 priest in 1 hour! Amazing! i was averaging 60% per level per run.

I do think I'll have some issues with the later ZF runs as my 70 only has the one aoe and it cloth. If it becomes to much I'll swap out for my 80 DK - not using him now just because of the lack of aoe skills.

With this king of progress I can easily see RAFing to 60 multiple times in my 90 days.

Let's say you get 90 exp, without the level 70.
And you get 22 exp with the level 70.

90 divided by 22 is ~4.
If you can kill 4x faster with the 70 in the party, then its a good move, provided you don't run out of mobs.

If you're in a densely packed area, such as an instance...
Or if the mobs are 4+ levels higher then the group (so they'd be impossible in groups without the 70)...
Then the higher level is definitely worth while.

just a quick time for any new people boosting. When you turn in guests be sure to DROP your high level group member this way you will not incur the xp penalty from having him in the group and you will get true 300% bonus.
