3.2 ret pally rotations/DPS

Well, since they f00ked up /castrandom, I've been playing with a ret rotation I setup earlier today. So far, I'm not completely disappointed, though the obvious lack of +hit on my pallies makes it a bit depressing on the heroic boss target dummy.

Here's the rotation I came up with.

As for the DPS, sadly (/kicks self in ass) I didn't test this before 3.2 went live. Ah, well. Here's what I was seeing today on the target dummies.

80 dummy, Seal of Righteousness: 1500-1900 dps
80 dummy, Seal of Corruption: 1600-2000 dps
80 dummy, Seal of Command: 1400-1700 dps
Heroic dummy, Seal of Righteousness: 1050-1400 dps
Heroic dummy, Seal of Corruption: 1200-1350 dps
Heroic dummy, Seal of Command: 1000-1200 dps

Considering my team is in only 1-3 epics each (and Zipples is in basically tanking gear while specced ret) and that I just hit 80 on the other 4 (only finished the K3 quests in Storm Peaks, still have the rest of SP and all of Icecrown AND all the faction dailies), this isn't as bad as I was expecting.

Of note is that SoCorruption starts at about 275ish per proc with no stacks and ramps up to about 1300ish with a full stack.

Also note I'm using glyphs of Judgement and Divine Storm for the above.

Next plan is to go respec for Seal of Command and see how it does, though I suspect I'll just skip it and go back to SoR for trash/normal instances and SoCorruption for long fights.

[edit] Yep. See above additions for SoCommand. Sucks. Bad. Worst seal of the bunch in terms of raw DPS.

[edit2] Whatever you do as ret, if you're not raiding or running heroics (i.e.: you don't care about aggro), by all means put Hand of Reckoning on your bar. That spell alone adds 150-300dps depending on target level. And that's on a pally with an average ilvl of 167. :D Average hits of 1300ish with crits around 3k? Off the GCD? Yes, please!

I'd be interested to see if anyone else has done any brief testing on their guys. ;)

So I don't box my ret pally, but I can test some stuff on a target dummy for you if you give me a few macros (My pally's in full naxx and some ulduar gear)

I'd change your chart around to something like this (the cd's aren't perfectly matched up, but you get the picture):

Edited your macro to reflect my changes, see if you get more DPS out of that.

Overall, I'm killing stuff faster now than before 3.2. Primary reason: Hand of Reckoning.

The only reason I can see this not getting a nerf is because it's useless for solo PVE and instances. For us multiboxers, it's like free DPS, and better than the old 15-second exorcism was, IMO.

Just curious..reset=5 would reset before it got anywhere near the middle of the castsequence..correct? I have seen others do this and it never made sense to me but maybe I need to be skooled. :)

I think:
reset= # means it'll reset your rotation if you haven't clicked that macro in that # of seconds.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct sir. Time in seconds if the macro/button is not pressed.

Wait hold up. I've had my accounts unsubscribed for like 4-5 months now and haven't really been paying attention much to what has been going on.

Hand of Reckoning, as in the Pally single target taunt, hits for 1300ish now with that gear? :eek: Man that would be absolutely killer in pvp with 5 decently geared pallies!

I checked WoWhead.com yesterday and according to Breck's reply back on 6-24-09, he said:

"Not working on players is intentional. They moved the damage portion to be applied after the taunt. If the taunt fails, the damage is not applied. Players are, and always have been, immune to taunt."

Now, this was before 3.2.2, so I haven't had the chance to find out if this has changed yet. Please let us know if this can apply damage in PvP combat cause I made macros on my slaves with /cast Hand of Reckoning, Crusader Strike, Judgement of So-n-so, Divine Storm for quick PvE killing. the fast refresh on them means no down time while I have Seal of Command up. Everyone pops HoR right off the bat then the quick swing of the sword for the kill. Pretty much an insta-gib :D

well crap. atleast it only uses up 3% base mana and don't share the global cooldown with the other spells. so the only time I'll need to swap macros is when I do instances.

So i'll post my macro at the bottom but i did a baseline on the lvl 80 target dummy of just hitting attacks manually as they came up... i peaked at about 3300dps with seal of command.

Then i made and tweaked my /click macro and with seal of command i peaked at 3500dps, seal of vengance i hit 3250. Not to mention glyphd Judgment with command on gives me another 8% mana back. So after 2 straight minutes of banging on the target dummy i was at just below 50% mana. Oh and i was judging justice since i mostly pvp ret.

These macros i put on my far right action bars starting at the top in the order they are posted. I use exorcism manually since its a proc and not hard to control, plus during pvp i will switch to flash of light as needed.

Just wanted to add that i tried the traditional rotation of Crusader Strike, Judgment, Divine Storm but i seem to get better dps out of this rotation. I actually hit a burst of 4200dps with this rotation after posting this.
