I have no pvp gear, I suck at pvp multiboxing - is it worth taking my team in the arena a few games a week? so far as best I killed 2 opponents, but lost 5-0 3 out of 5 games.

clarification, I 5 box arean by myself, 1 prot pally (mostly to draw fire) and 4 elemental shaman.
If you can stand losing and not taking it too hard, it's worth it.
A head piece bought with Honor alone is 49,000 Honor
A head peice bought with Honor and Arena points is 12,000 honor and 350 arena points. You get about 340ish arena points a week, so you can see how it will accelerate the equipment you get.
is 10 losses still the "magic" number to go for? Or can I do fewer/benefit from doing more?
If you are ONLY losing, then do the minimum 10. You will receive basically the same amount of points per week until you break 1500+ team rating.
That being said, you're not losing anything by getting more practice either, so if you have any desire to improve, then get more practice... and maybe play a real comp. You're not going to fool anyone by "drawing fire" on your pally. Intelligent players will not waste dps on a dmg sponge.

That means the 18k-ish honnor points and 1376 arena points can already buy me something ? Silly me, I didn't even check, silly me.
Where am I to go to get these items ? I know nothing about PVP.
I confirm, losing 10 games a week grants 344 arena points. In my case, I don't even have time to take anything hard, my team dies that quickly. I try to fight, though, just out of respect for my opponents. I killed a grand total of ONE person in the arena in 5 weeks now. Hehe :)
Dalaran in the sewers, theres a little staircase to a stand.
You should open up the first vendor closest to the wall (the one least cool looking).
Here you can buy everything :)
OMG, this HAteful Gladiator stuff is such a great upgrade to my level 78 blue gear ! And I can almost buy two pieces right now !
You made me very happy right now :)
As long as you don't have to wait too long for games to pop it's always worth it. Even after you get 5/5 hateful you can still turn in 100 arena points for 2k honor... if you get fast queues that's like 7k honor for 30-45 minutes of losing in 5s (also helps to not get 2k teams that try to pillar hump your 15k hp shamans all day). Probably a better return on time than a lot of bgs.
The evening before and the evening following maintenance, tons of people cram to get their games in.
You'll have amongst the largest pool to compete against, which theoretically means faster queues.
If you're losing and just want it over fast, go naked, mount up and run to the opposition.
Then dance with them until they kill you. If they won't attack, chain cast on their healer.
It's about the quick reward, to gear up faster, not about the win or loss.
Down the road, if you care, it will be about the wins, but not yet.
Or it can be the worst for queues, I know on my BG the day before reset it's not unusual to see 10-15 minute queues for 3v3 because so many people are trying to get games in.
Or the first time i tried 5v5 with my 5 shamans at lvl 80 on the night before maintenance, there were only 2-3 other teams playing, so it was a long queue for fast losses. And the dang arena week reset when i was at 9 games.. *grumble*
Havent tried going there since, though i think i'll try again soon since i have a bit better gear and the points would indeed be handy to get gear cheaper.
hey, sometimes you will even win.
I was farming a terrible team once on my 5 shamans =P
Still lost most of the games though
It's well worth the 10 losses in my opinion.
It accelerates your gearing up massively.
I would suggest at least trying to kill your opponents. Every fight is an opportunity to learn. You'll get to know what to expect, which targets to pick. Strategies to handle situational stuff.
Just don't let the losses get to your ego.
Last time I checked you can loose your 10 games by just not joining the arena. You queue up and don't hit accept. You still get points but don't have to step inside. Next week get yourself a new team. Granted you don't get a rating but you get the points for the lower unrated gear. You can even leave on toon in town to sign you up and your other toons can make there way somewhere else or do dailys.Quote:

Well, I did 10 games, all I had time for - And got my points - Had a couple of situations where I think I could have made a win with a bit better skills - I really need to learn to take out healers I think - And I'm very sensitive to fear spreading me out :P
It's however surprising how often it works that the people go beat on the prot pally thinking he's the healer :P
I may have to do this, as well.
I'm not that competitive of a PvPer, but since I'm not into PvE gear progression, I do tend to gear up for PvP related stuff. Sounds like it's a lot better to gear up via the option of Honor + Arena Points vs Honor alone. Especially since all of the extra pieces are honor only, and it'd be good to save up!
Good information in this thread.
Thanks, everone
Yeah this is good indeed, 30 mins or so spent and all shamans had shoulder upgrades :D
I did it for 4 weeks; got 40 losses and all the 5/5 hateful gear I could get (between that and the av weekend and WG honor) - I tried to kill people but I always get pummeled hard and the best I did was to kill 1 opponent (kind of sad) - since then I stopped but maybe should continue for training and to convert marks to honor as there are a few more pieces I can get with honor...
what % of games must a toon participate in to get team points?
Can anyone confirm if this is true? If so, that'd be awesome as all I care about is getting the points. Not having to waste the time by getting hit in the face sounds awesome. :)Quote:

Also fyi you can stay on 0 rating and still get your 250~ points a week so no need to make new teams.
Tasty, you're my new hero. thank you for the confirmation!!! :)
Well, my pally got into a 2v2 with a friend that actually win some games, so dont wanna drag him through 5v5 atm - Created a 3v3 for the shamans and actually won 2 games (against the same poor team lol) out of around 20 - Which is not bad with low gear and absolutely no pvp skills.
I have been able to get to about 1150 running 3 shaman, its hard though. So many people have ulduar gear and im still rocking hateful =(.
Destruction locks hurt me pretty bad lol.
If my memory serves me correctly, losing points for hiding was blizzards idea for punishing those trying to queuedodge/setup matchesQuote:

Now if I worked at Blizzard I'd put doing that down as Non-participation :)
/shrug
Nice thread =) I started doing 5v5 with my newly dinged shamans last week. I lost 9 and won 1 lol, but got my points so im happy. Its absolutley worth doing 10 games imo, u save some time there, much cheaper than to buy with honor alone.
I always enter tho, and i dont expect to win so i dont get disapointed or feel bad hehehe... i need practise, and maybe i will win some games later on, who knows :D
Just do it until your ready to start trying. Even with good gear I'm still hovering around 1300 and get the same points as if I lost all 10 for the week, so its worth it.
I got the full hateful set, and I'm happy to report that it [s]changed everything[/s] didn't change anything. I still lose all my games ! :)
Once, only once, I had the impression I could have won : I took the Priest healer out, and then a Warlock, but by then all of my characters were basically almost dead. Still, I was quite proud. Then the match ended, and I saw 3 ou of 5 in the other team got the "step into the arena" (or something like that) achievement, meaning they were doing their very first game. Hehe, never mind ...
Anyway, the 10 games a week are quickly done, so I continue doing them just for honour.
The new gear does make a rather big difference in Battlegrounds, though. My team is Druid (healer/caster DPS) + 4 x Mark Hunter.
Last time I checked (and I asked a GM, in-game, around Christmas time), non-participation was against the rules and "actionable" (sic).
Is it "ok" now to just not go in when the arena pops up?
Its perfectly legal lol. There is no longer any advantage to dodging Q pops, this issue is the reason they instituted the points penalty for not joining... hence - no more issue.
Part of the non-participation problem was that teams were feeding themselves to other teams on purpose.
The queue dodging was also being done to avoid specific teams.
Both of these problems were generally seen at the gladiator level, not the 0-10 level.
Play to win but don't be bothered by losses. The skills I gained doing lvl 70 arenas helped quite a bit while lvling if I were attacked.
I assume it is seeing as they put the point loss system in place (is it still in place?) though working on assumptions is a very BAD idea ;) might pay for someone to check with CSF.Quote:

I think its fine (this is just my opinion) I myself don't play arena for arena itself I play to get gear so I can competitively PvP throughout azeroth. Why should I be forced to do something I don't like in order to do something I do like? There's also the fact that I'm always going to be one or two seasons behind everyone else in gear and I won't ever have PvP weapons. I dunno just some thoughts/ramblings of mine.
10 games a week for points, everyone should have 30% or more to get pointsQuote:

example 30 games a week, you need at least 10 of 30 to get points
Just a stupid question, since I don't understand the rating -> points system.
I've just lost 10 games last arena week and got 344 points. I want to gain another 344 points this week (if score 0:10). Do I have to create new 5v5 team or is it possible just keep the original team to get the 344 this week?
No need to make new team, just make sure u get 10 games each week =)
I've been frantically leveling up my warlock team, so I can enter in 5s as both my Shaman team and Warlock team when the new Arena season starts up. Not sure when it will, but people are saying maybe a few weeks after the 3.2 content patch, so here's hoping.
I want to gear them up that way.
You cant just loose 10 games a week... if you do you will never get a rank! (correct me if im wrong), i lost all my arena games so far, and i think i get 345 Ap's a week or so. the thing is my team has no ranking.. thus keeping me ouyt from buying ant gear that requires AP's/honor.
Im stuck with hand me down honor only deadly and rest hatefull gear. cause you can buy all hatefull gear with only honor and no rating requrement.
MY 2 CENT:P

I'm about to hit 80 on my 5 priests and am trying to understand the rating system ... everything I'm reading is telling me that I'm only able to get hateful and some deadly with no personal/team rating requirements.
Besides the few deadly pieces you can buy with honor, am I correct in that you have to actually *win* against the majority of <1350 teams to be able to wear any of the deadly set? (eg. [item=41933]Deadly Gladiator's Satin Mantle[/item]) ?
If so, what's the point of losing 10 games a week if everything you can buy with arena points requires a rating anyway?
