Anyone using Pally/Priest/3xMage?

After multiple wipes on sladran in Gundrak (the loved-by-everyone-with-a-shaman first heroic instance) as a fresh 80, I've just spend almost 15k gold getting BOE crafted for my team. It bumped my dps from about 1200 up to 1800 (using all cd's gets me just over 2k on boss dummies) and I'm still wiping on Sladran. After 6 attempts, I finally got him down with only 2 toons left and a combination of luck (random snake wraps). Is it just my strategy? I've even added the "/tar snake wrap" to my frostbolt macros.

Is anyone using this comp to run heroics (ie. NO poison/nature resist/cleanse toon) ?? Gundrak is NOT the easiest heroic if you don't have a shaman or nature resist class ... thoughts & comments please :)

Try running your mages fire that should up your dps even more, frost is better for pvp.

never heard this - source? I'm not going to be raiding with these guys, so I don't necessarily need the mana regen of frost - i'm looking for max dps (leaning towards burst for my growing vanaskos list X( )

I'm just trying to salvage my first 80 team before I resign myself to lvling my @70 shamans to replace them :wacko:

I've got a non-shaman/no nature resist group that can kill sladran - but only just recently. To me this fight is mostly a dps race to make him die before I do, trying to do too much healing and topping off prevents me from winning.

I'd recommend starting in the other entrance to Gundrak with Moorabi and Eck, they are much easier in my opinion. Then use the badges and save some money to get even better gear. Like the Sundial of the Exiled

Also I'd say have a look at Rawr, it's been invaluable to me at finding loot and gear upgrades from all the sources I currently have access to (you can add and subtract areas to search as you gain the ability to get them).

A few of easier/cheaper ones that it suggests for your mages:
Cloak of Crimson Snow (Non-epic crafted)
Hat of Wintry Doom (Non-epic crafted)
Frostsavage Shoulders (Non-epic crafted)
Frostsavage Boots (Non-epic crafted)
Black Duskweave Leggings (Non-epic crafted)
Robes of Lightening (From this Sons of Hodir, non-heroic quest in HoL)
Sash of the Wizened Wyrm (You're already honored with the proper faction)

With a couple hundred more SP from these you should be able to take out Slad more easily.

5x paladins = 5x cleanse, real real easy :thumbup:

Hmm...Yea it's just going to be a dps race tbh to get him down, lots of healing from your priest so hopefully he can handle it. If you're not already use judgement of light to help out alittle bit.

I have a pally 3 mages and a druid healer. That boss gave me some trouble when I first started heroics. I park my dps and healer on the ledge and tank the boss in the doorway. Make sure you have all your cooldowns and pop your elemental and mirror image. DPS fast as possible and he should die. If your pally can keep all the snakes on him you should only have to heal the tank.

For your pally, you need to get some enchants: 45stam/15agi patch to legs, 22stam to boots, 20 Def to shield, 40stam to bracers(expesive but worth it), 16 def to Cloak, 4k more rep with AC for your helm enchant. I would also head to UP and do the Junk in my trunk quest for the Silver-Plated Battlechest. It also gives your priest a nice chestpiece, Bauble-Woven Gown. The whole quest can be done without killing one boss, you might need to reset the instance a few times. >.> I usually complete the quests on my characters before I hit the second boss. Maybe replace Glyph of Cleansing with Glyph of Divine Plea, it'll reduce damage by 3% while Divine Plea is up.

For your priest, try the first boss in H UP for Sorrowgrave's Breeches. The fight isn't that hard, bunch up your casters on the stage during the dialogue and tank her on the stage facing the seats. Kill the 3 adds when one of your characters get sacraficed, then reposition the character that got sacraficed. Get the Bauble-Woven Gown from the quest there too. Get Icewalker to boots, gem your pants with cheap int gems for now, sp or int for your belt. You can also get the frostsavage shoulders and bracers for your priest. Disc works on Int, crit then sp. Silent resolve isn't that useful anymore, Reflective shields gives no threat. I'd go with inspiration in the holy tree. Holy specialization is good, the other 5 points needed for Inspriration are a preference. Greater heal is hardly used, neither is renew. I'm not familiar with mages so I have no advice on them. Probably not what you were looking for, however I hope it helps.

For the Sladran fight, I actually tank him at the top of the ramp near the entrance with casters on the other side of the ramp. That gives me some time before the snakes get to me and the casters out of the poison nova range.

I run the same comp, prot pally holy priest, and 3x mages. My mages are specced arcane. I did some pugging for gear individually on a bunch of my toons and am now equipped in half 10/25 naxx gear. I also had trouble with the sladran fight. I did down him once (got the achievement for not getting snake wrapped on everyone but the tank) I haven't been back since I got my gear upgrades, but my DPS is double what it was before, and my heals are just huge by comparison. If I start the fight out with icy veins, arcane power, mirror image, trinkets, etc, I can easily pull over 3k dps on each mage, and probably bursting up to 3.5k. If the fight is short enough I could probably just spam Arcane Blast until I go OOM.

So yeah, frost is old hat for max dps now. Go arcane, use the rotation Arcane Blast, arcane blast, arcane blast, arcane missiles, arcane barrage (I use a sequence so if one mage procs missile barrage that mage keeps going on the sequence, so after a while they are all out of sync) I have also done it manually, which can increase dps, but if you arent careful, will run you OOM. I use mana gems every cooldown, and use evocate as often as I can. Arcane mage max dps is all about dumping your mana. With all the buffs your team has, you should last long enough to down the boss with relative ease.

I've thought about this - can you link your armory pages so I can see what spec you're using for your team? I need a good DPS arcane spec - thx

With 3 mages I like frost. I only spam 1 dps attack and just pop my cooldowns/elementals. No need to watch for procs. Maybe I could do alittle more dps but I dont think it's worth giving up the ease of frost dps. Spamming 1 button which is also my tanks sequence makes life easy doing heroics. The only other buttons I need are cooldown/elemental and my healing buttons.

Thanks ... i specced one of my mages exactly like yours, and my dps went down by 400 - to about 1600. Here's my dps macro:

I also have a second button for when i wanna max my dps, so i dont waste my cooldowns on trash

I pop that on boss fights as often as i can, as well as mirror images too.

I'm thinking about adding a 4th arcane blast into my macro, or possibly making 3 separate macros, with varying amounts of blasts, to better manage mana. if I do 4, that greatly increases the chances of proccing missile barrage, and the 4th blast does a lot of damage, but it costs a lot of mana. Then maybe one with only 2 blasts, for saving mana.

I also focus magic in a round robin, so each mage gets the buff. And i have to use mage armor, or i run oom.

In raids i switch my priest to shadow, and my pally to holy, and my priest keeps up well with the mages, and sometimes can beat them (expecially on aoe pulls, mind sear is hax!)
