Anyone know if it's fine under blizzard's ToS to have a horde and an alliance toon on different accounts on a pvp server?

So I currently 5-box horde on one server, it's PvP.

I'm considering getting a 6th account to create a level 80 alliance toon on that same server.

I know it's legal to transfer gold from one character to another via the neutral AH, but I was wondering what else was against the ToS. Specifically:

1. Using the toon on the opposing side to get honorable kills. Only for achievements, I don't play in battlegrounds. Things like getting Halaa tokens or earning kills for City Defender.
2. Using the toon on the opposing side to get /who info on people for world PvP
3. Using the toon on the opposing side to sell faction-specific items to myself (such as the argent tournament pets from the opposion faction).

Anyone ever run into this situation? I'm mostly interested in #1... cash is somewhat secondary to me. I'm a giant achievement whore though :D

Yeah, #1 is against the rules, it's called kill trading.

If you're worried about getting City Defender on a PvP server I wouldn't worry about it too much. I just finally transferred back to a PvP server and I acquired that achievement within the first week or two. The Horde are always attacking our capital cities and vice versa. How long would that take to keep running back to your corpse so your alt could kill it over and over again anyway? I would think the rez timer would be up to 3 days by the time you got 50 kills. :)

Win trading applies only to Arenas so I reckon this will be absolutely fine. You're open to attack from other members of the opposing faction in world PvP so it's not a risk-free gain.

It's a little grey though, so I'd check with a GM to be absolutely certain.

Absolutely fine. There's been lots of discussion about using the neutral AH for this sort of trade and the blues have always said it's completely legitimate. I don't have a reference immediately to hand, but it won't be hard to find when you look.

You entirely certain about #1? I can't see someone getting banned for 2 or 3, but #1 I would definitely be aware of. Best way to know would be to make a ticket to a GM and ask them just to be sure. Getting all your accounts banned after you've put all that time into getting to 80 would be a real waste :(

That's what I said in my original reply, Tdog. Then Enndoh asserted that they would "ban you for that" (I guess for doing what the title says - having horde and alliance on different accounts), and for that I am certain that he's wrong.

In the absence of existing hard evidence, the general guideline I use is that if I ever feel the need to post here and ask if something's ok, I'd be better off asking a GM directly :)

There is existing evidence to answer two out of the three questions, and I think there's good grounds for believing that the other is ok too, because - so far as I am aware - Blizz have only ever talked about win trading in arenas and not general "kill trading".

But, yes, that point should certainly be unambiguously clarified with a GM.

Well there was a post a while back on the Blizzard forums. A couple of guilds were trading honor kills in... I believe WSG. Each letting the other side farm them a bunch of kills and then reverse rolls. A GM gave them both suspensions, and removed their honor.

I'm not sure if #1 would get you banned, but its against the spirit of the game. If caught (which might be unlikely), you'd likely lose anything gained from the process.
Not recommended regardless.


#2 and #3 are perfectly fine.

While leveling up, anyone who repeatedly ganks you, should be added to a friends list on their faction.
That way, when you're level 80 x4 or x5, you can have a bit of payback fun, and at least know what zone the person is in, whenever you feel the need to pay them back.
Most people who kill you once, who cares - that's the game. But you do have 50 friends at a time, on the friend list.
So anyone who goes out of the way to be idiots.. well, you can have fun with them to the same degree down the road.

Trading across factions is fine as well.
The easiest way to to put something up for a massive amount.
Have the other faction toon buy it. You lose a chunk to the AH fee's, but its simple.

A better method is to have a toon in each neutral AH. So you know no one else is around to snipe your items.
Then list valuable items - enchanting mats are good for no listing fee - at dirt bottom prices.
You pay a percentage of the sale price, which is very low.
And you get a valuable commodity for next to nothing, which can be sold for gold on the faction of choice.

Someone (I think on this forum but I'm not sure) made a post about bringing a character from the opposite faction to hellfire to get easy marks. They were contacted by a GM very quickly. I think they were only given a warning.

Having a character /who'ing people, we had someone in the zerg doing it for a while without any problems. It does get close to harassment but I think as long as you don't stalk someone 24/7 you should be ok.

Trading faction specific stuff is fine.

no screenies but it is true.

We've had folks on Mag since the beginning (or nearly) with "spy" accounts in alliance there. There was also an alliance druid that had a horde spy account and would use him to track lowbie zerg groups and harass us. Neither ever got banned for it.

With regards to other uses of alts on the opposite faction, there are two things that I know can get you banned:

1. "swapping" honor kills by trading kills in PVP
2. Transferring large amounts of items from faction to faction via the neutral AH. It should be noted that if you use these items to equip your characters, no harm no foul. If you do it with the intent of jacking up prices or making money because one faction has a surplus of an item, that will get you banned.

I wish I could give you links to the blues that have posted about it but it's been a year or so since I really cared about this stuff and went researching it.

I know of at least one member of this community that asked a gm about whether he was allowed to use a spy to target specific players. He got warned that he could get banned for it, becuase it is considered harassment under some circumstances. Here's a link to the pvp realm policy:

"The Ongoing Harassment policy does not apply on the PvP server when there is a PvP resolution available. Characters have the ability to deal with their conflicts through combat and Game Masters will only involve themselves in extreme circumstances."

This specific player wanted to use eve-style pvp against a small group of other players and that apparently qualifies as an extreme circumstance. So although you're allowed to use a spy and target specific players, just make sure that you don't take it too far.

Honestly, the main reason I want the 6th 80 is for the World PvP stuff. You may think this should be easy but it's not. My server is pretty low population, and Horde outnumber allance 3:2 or so as well.

It's so bad that I have a grand total of two City Defender kills ever. I've never once found someone to kill in Halaa for the tokens there (I collect mounts and want their special talbuks). Exodar and darnassus are so barren that I can't find any players in there high enough level to get me 5 kills for the Wrath of the Horde achievement.

Really I just want to have a couple alliance toons somewhere at all, as I have 5x horde 80's and another 10x at least at level 60ish that I might level up someday. Getting an alliance 80 would be a nice change of pace.

I read above the infamous words "spirit of the game."

Depending on the GM, you could potentially have issues with harassment but bannanation is really out there, think "warning."

The other Spirit OF The Game issue is cross factin chat, in beta, Blizz decided not to let Horde and Alliance chat back and forth freely. During my early days of boxing, many MANY people created Horde toons just to talk shit, get ignored, create a new toon, rinse, repeat. I did talk with several GMs who advised me the SOP was to warn, 2hour ban, 24h, 48h etc for repeat offenders. Who know if they actually did any of that.

But my question is why? It sounds like a lot of time investment that could be spent doing the acheivemnt the way it was designed.
