77 and flying in northrend !

I scrapped gold from all my alts and was able to afford 5x regular flying (5x800) and 5x northrend (5x1000) and 4x cheap mounts (4x95) and the pricey variable speed DK mount for my team:

I did the same thing, only to realize that the regular flying mounts are the same speed as the free ones from K3 and the places where you can't use the free mounts, the epic ground mount is faster anyway. The only tangible benefit I can see in the short term is the fact that it opens up the shortcut flight to the flying base in icecrown.

If I had it to do over I would have spent the money on better gear at 80 to do heroics with and waited until I could do all epic flyers.

Hmm, I somehow thought you had to have mounts for many quests/zones past 77 ? I'll admit that my main levelled to 80 through healing in instances so I didn't actually do most of the quests plus she had epic flying form anyway so I don't know about those "free mounts" in k3 you mention ?

Well, to eventually get the epic flyers you will have to pay the 1k normal flight training skill and the cold weather flying fee before you can train the 5k epic flyer training anyways, so might as well get a chunk of the cost out of the way in my opinion. :D

I waited on my death knight until 77 to train any of his flying skills and it hurt having to pay 1k normal flying, 1k cold weather flying, 5k epic flying, and 1k speical DK mount all at one time. ;( I'd rather split the cost up next time.

I ended up doing this for my 5 X Alliance Shamans last night the exact same thing.

I have 5 X Bronze Drakes on my Horde Team.

Another great thing about those free mounts is they are treated as vehicles so you can mount them in combat, just don't try to use them while your moving the ground reminds you that action is not allowed. I made a macro can't copy paste it right now but it's basically

/cast [combat] free mount name; [nocombat] epic flyer

Just for the quick getaway should it be needed.
