Did this place get buffed up 3.1? I've ran this dungeon before, but for whatever reason, the Risen Drakkari Soulmages now seem to always drop the shadow well (1000 dmg/second) on my groups. How do you guys combat this?

By moving outta of em ?
There pretty random first time I went there there where 2 of em in the first group got wtfpwned, dropping like half dozen damm things on the ground was annoying.
gotta target em first stun shock em or what ever yeh got for interrupts and burn em down quick
it may be just RNG luck, but I thought that if I tanked them away from the group and had the soulmages with their backs to my shaman, they were less likely to drop the AE on the group.
Of course, this may be merely perception, so the usual caveats apply.
Strafe like crazy. :D
haha :P got it now. Thanks all!
if u run a paladin, when you come up against 2, use holy wrath to stun them and dps one down then hammer of justice the other. That works fine for me havent been hit by one in ages.
I hate those black Reese's peanut butter cups of death. When I first started this instance I found them to be harder to deal with than most of the bosses. However, for me there is usually only one in a group of 4, but sometimes there are 0 or 2. When there are 2, that's when you have to be careful and do as stated above.
Haha, thanks for the tips all. I'm now using holy wrath and my stuns to knock these guys out. I've been farming Tharon'ja for her Aegis (just need one more). IMHO, two of those Soulmages at once in this instance is WAY harder to deal with than all of the boss fights here.
Ah well...
"Im... impossible! Tharon'ja is eternal! Tharon'ja... is..."
One of the best boss voices is WoW in my opinion.... :)
I'm currently farming him for the Limb Regeneration Bracers for my shams...
Cheers,
S.
This is just one of those funny examples of a fight that is trivial at best for a PuG, but one of the hardest trash fights in the game for a multiboxer. Now that I'm single boxing, I'm always surprised at how stupidly easy to zones are to stay out of when I'm only controlling one character :D
I was lucky to have no shadow wells at all in my heroic run last weekend. I always attack them first and stun them as much as possible with my tank.Quote:

Its actual quite easy once you realise that the soulwell range isnt unlimited.
I've never actually thought to test the range on the soulmages, but wouldn't be surprised if they are limited to 30 yards, while most DPS have 36 yard ranges (with talents). Good thought.
As always, strategies depend on group configurations. I just spread my toons out about 10 yards each (so the two outside toons are against each wall), use shadow resist aura (pali tank), and keep an eye out if any of them get hit by the spell and throw a big heal or two at them. Also with pali tank, I just hammer stun any soulmage after a few seconds to prevent casting (they never cast right away, usually about 5-6 seconds into the fight), so I only tend to get hit at all if there's two of them in one pack, which is pretty rare.
But now with our new shield silence, I can just throw the shield to silence both at the same time, then hammer the second soulmage once I kill the first one. DPS just needs to be fairly decent to kill them fast enough (1700+ DPS average across all 3 DPS, at a guess) before silence/stun wears off.
Wewt. Thanks for all of the replies. I still shake my head when I see two of those soulmages up together, but I've at least managed to farm this place now without dying. I like the idea of testing the ranges on the soulmages; I may try that this evening. I too use the "spread-out" method now, Taliesin, so at least only one character will die if I mess up now :D .
Cheers!!
according to wowhead.com there spell has a 30 yard range ? If thats true then it would be fairly easy to avoid

Ive actually included the soulmages in my drak'thalon movie but i forgot to upload it, i will try to do it later today.
The range part ive already figured out on normal so i managed to avoid thoose painful and costy heroic wipes! :)
Speaking of ranges, I just confirmed last night that Eck and his little buddies in Gundrak are indeed range-limited as well. Killed them all without a single jump. I'm guessing they are limited to only 30 yards as well. :)
