Newb w/ a dream.

Hey guys. First time poster, long time admirer. I have been looking at dualboxing from afar since ive heard about it, and I've come to a conclusion. I want more. 10 accounts? chump change. I am highly interested in knowing if it is substantially possible to roll 100 accounts. I have the money, and I have the gaming experience. I just need the know-how. With our powers combined, I can make history (I think, I've never heard of someone rolling more then 10 accounts.) So here's a list of questions:

1)Can I get a bulk discount on the software? xD

2)Is this at all possible with the current software?

3)In theory, could this even work? Or will I need 10 new pairs of arms?

4)Will a dedicated T1 line fill my connectivity needs, or should I upgrade to a fractional DS3 connection?

5)Is there a way to work in different class's/spec's so that they can all work together?

6)Anything I should know before taking this venture? Like... investing in some heavy drugs to relieve the stress this might ensue?

in thoery it will work but u may find yourself sticking to certain classes that work well together. and if your computer well if you plan on really doing this computer (s) !!. were u get cheap computers from :P

Have to ask the proverbial question: what is your goal? Why 100? (or any other number)

I would start off small first. It will probably be ALOT more work than you realize

The other thing to consider - is what exactly are you going to do with the 100 characters?

You might want to raid cities, but dungeons are 5 man, raids are 10 and 25 man.

If it's something you want to do go for it.

well, right now Im running 12 alx x58's, fully decked in my lab. Im plannng on getting more because more and more people keep showing up to play on them lol. and why 100? Because 100 is really setting the bar. I dont just want to ruin some poor guys chance of killing me. I want him to run in fear of my incoming army of insanity. So ya, thats essentially why 100. I want an army.

I think HotkeyNet can handle this without trouble, but I don't know for sure since nobody has told me that they've tested with this many PCs and windows.

btw. i think 25 is a nice solid number. you can do five groups of five plus tackle any 25 man content. i think you would get less "omg why the hell 100? he cant do anything with 100!!" try 25 and do all the 25 mans. it would have a bit more punch.

iv been doing some thinkning and no way could you do this. you would need be using atleast 3 ISP's because of the connection you will need. also you can only go upto like 45 accounts

each character of mine (4) has about 30 macros that are lengthy.. have fun making 3,000 macros switching back and forth getting a headache..
internet connection cost? ur gunna need like 10 modems and a couple different server..

I think with 100 toons you would just lag yourself to death. You could name the guild LAG and render parts of the game unusable to those mere mortals with lesser PC's :P

I have 13 accounts but to be honest I really wouldnt wanna try to manage more than 10 toons at once.

This. You won't be able to play very well with all the lag. I don't care how good your computer is, any zone you go into will instantly become about the same or worse then Dalaran. If you really want to do something crazy like this just start off with 25 characters so that you'll be able to do 25 man raids and also get an understanding of what your computers will be able to handle.

I'm on board with all the "What the hell are you going to do with 100 toons at a time" people. I could even see 40 to be your own raid force...well, I could if raids were that big anymore. You can't even really make your own AV group. Yeah, you could fill up a raid group, but you'd never have enough control to do anything but wave as the opposing team rides past you.

Sure, it might be neat to see 100 level 80s riding into Ironforge and taking out everyone and everything systematically while chanting "We are Borg..." but how are you going to get them to that point? Clearcut the newbie area for 2 weeks so they all ding 10? Having 2 and a half raid groups worth of toons is going to draw a LOT of attention and probably the bad kind from Blizz if they decide you're doing it to harass other players by making things unplayable.

To counteract lag cant I split up accounts between the 12 computers I have? 10 accounts per or so? I was also thinking about making the upgrade fro my T1 line to a fractional DS3 line. I havent gotten quoted on the pricing but I know a full ds3 line can cost a couple thousand dollars. (it has roughly 44mbs connections) And Im not going to be level 100 toons at a time. that would just be silly and prolly take a year. It will prolly be 4 at a time, being power leved by my lvl 80 pally. and think about it. Lets say I roll Paladins. I could just spam consecrate with 100 Paladins and kill anything in my path. Or hit divine storm and wipe out anything near me while healing myself lol. and If I ever wanted to get better gear can always split into groups.



and to answer the guy about my lab. Its just the basement of my house. my friends call it the laboratory because im always meddling with things no normal gamer should lol.

Let's assume that with enough money and the right internet connectivity you can achieve the hardware side of things.

The next step would be to decide what classes you want to make up your mighty 100.
Realistically I don't see the macroing being too much of a problem - you won't need to maximise the damage output on each character.
You'll be unlikely to encounter anything that will survive through the first couple of hits.

run your groups up in batches of 5. (running as mixed groups from the start might let you get an idea for the macro setup).
Gift whatever others up. Rinse and repeat.

Good luck. I would guess that at some point you will being to wonder why the hell you ever started it but you'll have to keep your end goal in sight.

lol awesome! you put the lab by a cafe, give it a name and charge people to play on your 25 computers and your hobby should pay for itself. i know one person that's done it. makes almost no profit, but everything pays for itself nonetheless. i figured you had a gaming/cyber cafe somewhere. anyway. really, i've never done it, but i think 100 accounts will annoy the crap out of you. good luck!

I think the problem is server side lag. The kind of lag that happens when a hundred toons (played by different people) are in the same area in the game. You'll be in that self-created situation everywhere you go.

I think at some point you're going to run into technical (and non-technical) issues that are beyond your control, like server lag, ISP issues, etc.

I my opinion, the multi-boxer that "wins" is the one who can roll 25 and clear all raid content. THAT would impress the heck out of me and many other people. You could even end up on the front page of Yahoo.com with that.

From a PVP point of view, why not 40? Prepared has done 36, so why not go the whole hog and make it a round 40? 'Soloing' AV would be a sight to sight to see!
With regard to 100 accounts, can you not test out how far you can push it with trial accounts? Keep adding until it's at a level that would still be playable yet not crash the server?! ;)

Its not about the fame for me. Its more or less about stretching the limits. Ive always been the kind of person that if Im going to do something, Im going to go all out and test the boundries. The trial account idea is a good idea, and I believe i will do that as soon as I am setup, because I can always update them to regular accounts. Ill just have to BC trial accounts as well though (if thats even possible) because I want to make my group either all pally's or a fair mix of them, because they can heal themselves and others while attacking.

Server side lag. Ya, the presents a problem. but thats something everyone has to deal with. If it ends up that it causes the server to lag to the point of a server crash, I will more then likely stop doing it w/o anyone having to enforce me to do it. I want to grief players, not blizzard (lol).

I'm not sure whether you can get BC trial accounts. I believe you would need to buy the vanilla wow.
Would you not prefer the tried and tested Shaman? I really do believe these are the swiss army knives of wow. Good for so many situations due to their totems etc. Perhaps you could throw a few palas in there for good measure?

looks like you got a overall good insigth on how to level up without doing the "sam" mistake, so beeing 80 on all chars within acceptable timeframe will not be to hard.

but like someone have mention before 100 char's is way above any past or current raid group config, as well as battle ground and raid instances.
the only ting you really could do would be raid apponent city's and challance the everyone in world pvp really

if you had 40 chars at max it would lower the odds for server or and connection technical issue's to be a issue.
as well as you could solo av and still to world pvp and city attacks.?

still if you do get 100 char's i would love to see vids of that army "ps can you make them on sams realm and make opposite faction char's as him :thumbup:

i would stay clear of sam's realm. there's no reason to beat a dead horse.

besides, if you start on a realm where thare are many multiboxers already, you'll get plenty of support, moral and otherwise.

Server lag will be your biggest obstacle imo. Also, did they move macros to be server side? If so, this could be a pain. You used to be able to just grab your macro file and copy it to the folders of the other accounts.

Look for a low population server.

Don't talk about private servers here. Let alone SUGGEST using them. This is not www.LOLLETSTALKABOUTPRIVSERVARS.com

no you shouldnt.

1. its against bliz rules.
2. private servers vs. an actual server? thats two totally different things, one being thousands of times better than the other.
3. connection between them is different. so even if you make your own private server, connect it via lan and play, the outcome will be different from having an actual connection to bliz servers.

Well, think of it like this, you are going to need multiple internet connections, running 5 accounts off of one cable connection is fine, but doing anymore can really start to show with lag.

So, with 100 accounts running at the same time, you are going to need (theoretically) 5* accounts per 1 connection *100… so 20 cable connections. Give or take depending on your location, maybe you can get better.

Average? $50.00*20=$1000 a month.

Multiple computers running the games (give or take 5, 600 dollars a rig to take on 5 accounts) with no other reason but to run 5 wow’s.

Not to mention power bill/heating problems (a lot of fans, or some sort of rigged cooling system (one of those walk in fridges you can get for a couple grand.) My dream setup Fridge that I would use for all my rigs… Perfect for you.

Or build a sheet metal and other materials a rack mount setup to host all your boxes and setup a cooling system.

Then depending on your system setup, going to multiple keyboards/mouse with a couple of 58X-keys and or the big boy

Not to mention setting up all the toons names/macros/group setups and the multiple amount of hours upon hours to get it all setup… lol.

I say, go for it, I want pics, details, movies, before and after pics of you, before and after pics of bank account, before and after hair, facial hair, mental state, jerkins lotion bottle consumption, Pics of the Bawls Castle vs the Jolt Cola Castle that you are going to build in my honor.

But in all honesty, I say go for it, I think it’s going to be hella pain in the ass, but if it’s something you want to do, then do it, just PLEASE, don’t pull a stupid assjackery Phuktard SAM EGO BULLSHIT!! I hate nothing more than people like him.

The more I think about this, the more questions and thoughts I have.

First, if you are REALLY serious, I would suggest calling Blizzard customer service and see if you can arrange some kind of direct buy deal with them. For almost $8000 in initial costs and $1500/month, they might be willing to work directly with you. I know it's folly to believe that any of us with 5 or 10 accounts is 'special' in Blizzards mind, 100 accounts might actually get their attention.

And the only reason I mention this is, the huge time investment alone in entering 100 keys for WoW, TBC, and LK. Add to that the time to name/create 100 toons and enter them into the game.

If money really is no object, you could probably get a great rack mount system with gigabit Ethernet and a high speed switch. 20 controllers with highspeed drives. The only downside might be video, but with 100 accounts, it's not like your brain would be able to comprehend every instance at all times. I would create one system, install the game on it, create all your accounts, maybe create the most basic macros then clone the drive for the other systems.

I can see how this might be fun for awhile, but I'm guessing it would get old quick. Someone mentioned a net cafe in an earlier post. If you have the money, I would suggest going that route. Find a public space to rent, set it up for multiboxing as well as operating as an internet cafe. You could make the first WoW Cafe.
